  1. Where are the radio stations going to be? Just in the regular parking lots or something? They will be at BW-3's. Bw-3 has secured some extra parking areas to accomodate the crowds they hope come for pre and post game partying.OH NO!!! This could be like Hineygate!! Protect the woman and children!
  2. hahaha for those that may miss it, it looks funny.I tried to copy/paste or screenshot, but was not able too. Either blocked here at work, blocked by the site or user error.
  3. Oh no!!!They are putting "Akron" in the wrong spot. Move it back, move it back!!!! Someone get over there!!
  4. Well lets not forget the Big-10 also needs a pickup in a world of 12 team conferences.. As to Akron making it to the Big East? Its not very likely perhaps if you do manage to grow to the mid to high 20K in terms of undergrads (I think now you float around 20). But in terms of Endowment, Size, and number of programs you dont fit in with the BE. I don't think Buffalo is much more likely because while we do fit in as an institution we bump up against the Syracuse market. UB would be a better addition to the Big-10 (new state for them to be in but as close to the rest of the conference as Penn State. Then Again I really think the B-10 would go after Pitt which would open up yet another slot in the BE. If UB2020 goes through (right now the NY senate is in disarray and the other SUNY centers are doing their best impression of a toddler deprived of some toy) UB will be in a Bigger conference in 5-10 years..I have read the UB to Big Ten stuff: though I can see an argument, I'm just not buying it. Unless they are turned down by Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt, WVU, etc., it just isn't going to happen.
  5. While I am disappointed in this decision, my wallett will be happy!!!
  6. With South Alabama joining FBS in 2013, that would make 121 teams. Get Navy and Army in a conference (the "new" MAC) and you would could legitimately have 10, 12 team conferences...and Notre Dame.
  7. Sorry but if any MAC team would make the jump to a BCS conference (like the Big East) it would be Buffalo- 28K Students, will be 35-40K (when ub2020 http://www.buffalo.edu/ub2020/overview/) is completed- 500 Million dollar Endowment- AAU member- Considered a Research University Pier by Schools like LSU and UCLAThe only thing keeping UB back is out athletic facilities (field house is in the works) and tradition....If the Big East pairs down to 12 teams that play both major sports, they will most likely be choosing from:Memphis East CarolinaUCF (perfect compliment to USF)MarshallSouthern MissBuffaloAkronTemple (been there before, but Philly market and basketball included could get them in)I look at Memphis and UCF as virtual locks. Then it will be a tough call between Temple, Akron and Buffalo. The next 4-5 years are critical for these programs if they want that opportunity. Akron's biggest advantage might be the fertile recruiting ground that they happen to be situated in vs. where Buffalo is located. Buffalo's biggest advantage might be that there is no longer an NFL team located in that area. Temple has the attributes mentioned above, and the BE does already have 1 team playing in a pro stadium (Pitt).
  8. Admittedly, I don't know what agreements the MAC has with schools. But if the WAC and MWC wanted to expand, you could see C-USA grab Army, Navy and 4 MAC schools for this league:Conference USANorthAkronBuffaloMarshallTempleArmyNavySouth East CarolinaMemphisSouthern MissUABUCFMiami
  9. InfoCison is nice, but is still probably one of the smallest stadiums in D-IA.KD has been here for a few years now and the same crowds still exist. LBJ has loose connections at best with UofA. He has bigger fish to fry.Zeke..... Weren't we saying Frye for Heisman a few years ago?My guess is Walt Harris wanted something to do while his house is being remodeled.Soccer program - Not enough people care about soccer.Major campus improvements compared to what? Everyone is growing their campus.Zippy - Nobody really cares.Rebrand Fear the Roo. How about eliminate? What if instead of all the above, UofA and the MAC produced a product people wanted to go see? I'll say it again, you can't assume your customers are stupid.Say what you will, but I watched the same progression at Cincinnati in the early 90's to now.
  10. I think looking for this kind of a person is important, regardless of whether the MAC is realistically moving down.Akron is moving to the big-time. It is just a matter of time. Some of it has been lucky, some planning, some skill, etc.:Where to begin:- InfoCision- Willingness of KD to stay here- Connections with global superstar LBJ- Zeke- Hiring of someone like Walt Harris as an ASSISTANT coach- Soccer program- Major campus improvements- Zippy as mascot of the year- Fear the Roo, improved branding (A-Roo), etc.
  11. Though this is just one opinion, more signs that eventually change is going to come:http://ncaapalace.com/ncaaf/119-cfbpalace-...need-each-other
  12. And, hate to say it, but the picture of Bryan Williams from the "Williams cut" topic is just another in your face reminder of how ridiculously large the numbers are. It looks like a bad high school team. If they do ONE THING and only one thing, shrink those numbers!!!
  13. VD had the great designs. My thought was something similar to BC's current unis. And yes, no doubt, recycling is where we are at right now.
  14. Is there are a reason why you think we need new threads? Out dated design or something? What we have now is far from outdated. I personally think we should have a throwback (ala the snowbowl) and an alternate gold jersey with blue pants. But overall those are just "awesome we have extra" not "we really need this".Personally, I am not looking for anything drastic. But I think this is an opportunity to make some adjustments. Kind of a big deal to move into a new stadium, new era kind of thing. I think something to reflect that change would be a positive move. Who wants to move into a new house and keep all of the same furniture?Well, we have new seats and big screens... If I was moving into a new house I'm not sure I'd buy a new shirt, and I most definitely wouldn't throw out all my outfits.Prolly go for the tv in the bathroom.Well played!

  16. Since we are going over the "same ol, same ol (conference changes)"...I am shocked if we do nothing, even if it is just a somewhat slight change. Brand new stadium, building the brand, huge year for the program, etc. What a perfect opportunity to do something!!! Are we just tapped out? Did Mack check out before bothering to pursue some new threads?
  17. Exactly, the University is a driving factor for the city and the city is a driving factor for the University. It's foolish to think the two are seperate entities. People who treat them as such are stuck in an era that is completely backward thinking.Hell within the next 5-10 years we are going to have a distance learning center in Barberton and improvements to the Holmes County Campus are being shaped up. My original proposal for the arena was diagonally from The Info (getting rid of the plasma center). However that appears extremely unlikely. But again, expansion happens on the borders. As far I'm concerned I want to see the campus stretch from Thornton to Market and Rt 8 to Main. Obviously with certain exceptions for existing established and respectable properties but overall that is the acreage I see the campus eventually utilizing. Also I am one who believes that the cost burden for something that benefits everyone should not be taken on by a single entity. The Arena will benefit everyone, and should have all parties (University, City, and County) footing the bill. Ultimately it should be University ran ala EJ Thomas but it should be for the entire community and located as such. Somewhere on the campus border that invites people to experience The University of Akron and the culture of the City of Akron.Great post!!!!There are good arguments for each location. There are also plenty of BCS basketball programs (quickly, Michigan and West Virginia come to mind) that have their arena off-campus or on a far edge of campus. Comparing Rubber Bowl vs. Info to downtown vs. "on-campus" is just not vaild. If Akron is to become big time, there is nothing about the downtown location that is not comparable to so many other universities when it comes to where the arena is vs. where the students live.
  18. I think the C-USA you would see in 5 years would look much different than what it is now. MWC and WAC each have 9 teams, and I think one or both is likely to expand. They could easily steal a good deal of the Texas and "near-Texas" teams..very likely, leaving that conference with 6 teams. If the BE decides to stand pat (along with the Big Ten and PAC), the MAC would be the most natural filler for at least 3-4 replacements in the new C-USA.
  19. We have a connection with the AD at Houston. C-USA is not going past 12 teams, so obviously none of this is happening until conferences like the WAC, MWC or Big East expand (well, 12 teams that play football). Akron has to keep improving, especially in football and basketball (obviously) to be positioned to make a move.As for MAC having too much Ohio & Michigan and C-USA not having much regional sense for us= when the conferences mentioned above shake-up, you could see some of the Ohio teams moving to C-USA or Big East. I think the current BCS system expires in 2014. So we have about 5 years to build our resume, as that is the next logical time for some major shake-ups.
  20. You must be sitting in one of those areas.I think it is ridiculous that it would be served in some areas (for those with more $$$), but not in others. All or nothing.
  21. 82..Go to urbanohio.com if you want to find positive people about NE Ohio. It definitely can be a breath of fresh air (admittedly there is more Cleveland talk, but Akron is mentioned in spots and we would certainly welcome more Akron news!!!). MODS weed out all the crap on that site too.I am from the Cleveland area, and I totally think Akron is on the rise (SLOWLY). UA is a big part of it, and the more that the city and the university become intertwined, the better. But with the stadium, the new dorms, new apartments, etc., I look forward to taking the 45 minute drive to Akron for football, basketball and soccer games while also enjoying The Barley House and other local establishments.
  22. Cleveland+ baby!!! C'mon. Being negative about Cleveland isn't helpful either. If you want to grow the Akron brand, Cleveland area will be a part of things.
  23. Still about 48 hours until I pick mine.I might have to go pee on my seats!!!
  24. 2 of our future rivals in the Big East sell beer at their stadiums= Syracuse and Cincinnati (at last check).
  25. I'd love the see the out clause MSU has in the contract for the game at Can't.Well, at least it was done the right way= 1 at MSU, 1 at Can't, 1 at MSU. The "go there twice and expect them to come once" theory is stupid beyond stupid.
