Evan Mahaffey has a lot of tools. Shooting from the outside is not one of them. He doesn’t even try that much. If he could make a fair amount of the wide open threes I am on board.

Greg Tribble couldn't make a 3 to save his life for his first 3 seasons.

In addition, soon we will be at a point where the best of the best of the best end up annually at 5-6 schools. Those schools will win the championship every year. Same in football. There is nothing interesting about it. I can't even dislike a lot of teams I used to because I don't care enough to dislike them.

I find myself increasingly uninterested in college athletics and it's more than the NIL. I enjoy going to Wake Forest games, even though that's getting increasingly difficult, and watching the Zips from afar. Other than that, I really don't care much for it and I used to love college athletics. Maybe it's because it's now minor league sports and I don't like minor league sports.

I pay virtually no attention to any other games other than the Zips.

This is exactly where college sports is now. It was not lost on me that Bud sat with the team and next to Ford at the Selection Show Watch Party. Not that I have an issue with that - I don't- but I don't think that's something you would have seen 5 years ago. These wealthy alums are semi-formal parts of the program now.

Bud Wentz is the de-facto GM of the team. He does way more than just contribute money.

Is this in response to my post?

It's just a general comment. It's great to want new seating, better scheduling, better players, etc... All of those things cost money. The administration is telling us more cuts are coming. If you are a fan, you can do your part to make up the difference. Buy a better seat. Make a donation to the Zip Athletic club. Make a donation to the collective. UA is not a P-4 school with large numbers of rich alumni. LeBron is not going to come rescue us. My experience in this world is you get what you pay for.

One thing I love about these Zips is that everyone on the team is involved and having fun.  Guys like Gray and Wilson have been here for  a short period of time but they are right in the middle of the mix.  Seth is leading the team in the huddle before they come out.  Seth is putting the Akron name as the winner on the bracket board.  No sulking, no outsiders.  From Nate Johnson to Connor Groce they're all in and happy for each other.  That's TEAMISM.

We've already been down this road. The NIT clearly stated what the criteria would be before the season even started (I can link you the press release) and they followed through on that.

Complain about the NET, Kenpom, and whatever metrics you want, but that's what the NIT committee decided was important. They made that public knowledge, which is more transparency than we've ever seen in the selection process. Pretending to be shocked over something that was common knowledge is a waste of time to discuss.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game. The only selection process used by the NIT was analytics. They made it clear before the season began.

What actually caused the National Debt that we now pay $800-billion in interest on? What actually caused the $1 Trillion deficit we are currently experiencing?

    1. The Bush-era Taxcuts
    2. Two unfunded wars (Iraq and Afghanistan)
    3. Continually increasing military budgets to the level of absurdity over the past 20-years (and no, Military aid to Ukraine doesn't actually count here because most of that was surplus stockpile that was going to cost us $ to decommission anyways).
    4. Trump (2016) Taxcuts.

The four things are the major contributors to both the Debt AND deficit. And no, it goes much further back than the past 10-years. It goes back to that 2000s era of Taxcuts that turned Bill Clinton's surpluses into deficits. And if you want to play the conspiracy theory game, it's all by design of ONE political party so they could justify cutting Social Security instead of doing the sensible thing, which everyone knew in the 1980s we should do to solve Social Security, which is eliminating the cap on taxable personal income.

I'm so sick and tired of people lying about this. It's not a mystery as to where this debt and deficit came from. It's from cutting taxes into oblivion, and running up the charge card on military spending. Period Fullstop. It wasn't spending on education, or food stamps, or national park funding, or NASA, or the EPA (etc...etc...etc). It was taxcuts and military spending.

Yes, we should have been able to spend stimulus money in a lifetime of a Pandemic to keep people in homes and to keep the economy from free falling into a depression. You know, basic crap governments are like supposed to do. But no, a segment of this country decided it was better to give free handouts to the wealthiest people in the country at the expense of the future.

Terrible letting people get to keep their money when we all know the government would do a much better job spending it for them!  I really appreciate these sarcastic posts of yours!

Is Lanae Riley returning?  Don't know what her season status was, as far as injuries, personal probs, etc., but was very disappointed as she was a tremendous local hs athlete who should be a star at the MAC level.  Alexus Mobley, on the other hand has only one more year remaining to play after being a jc transfer.  She won't get a lot of attention.  Overall, when does the put-up or leave-town pressure hit coach Gensler?

It is doubtful that Riley will return. Mobley will be missed but I'm confident Gensler will find a replacement in the portal. He is feeling any outside pressure at this point. Only the pressure he is putting on himself to turn the tides of this program.

  9. If you guys are going to make snarky comments, you should at least know what your talking about. Considering the amount of injuries and other issues with players, this year's team still competed every night. You know that Bud Wentz also runs a NIL program for the womens team? We have some pretty good freshmen and will pick up a couple more players from the portal. Shelbee Brown will be back and those injured players will return too. Gensler is a good coach. Eventually things will start to go our way.

I don't know how many people you are having at your wedding, but those two hotels a large enough for a decent size wedding.

One idea people in Akron need to get in their heads is, Akron isn't a convention city for too many reasons to list. More hotel rooms isn't going to change that.

How are the Civic, EJ and Musica suffering from not enough hotel rooms in Akron?  Do these event venues have any proof that more hotels would draw more people. My memory tells me almost everyone who attends events there lives within an hour drive.

Time after time after time after time Akron makes the mistake of trying to be a place people want to come and visit then go home to the suburbs. Really successful cities in 2025 are executing on plans to bring young people into their cities to live and work. It's what Akron needs to do.

When I moved to Charlotte 19 years ago, the part of the city known as the South End was a dump. It's the area between South Blvd and Tryon Street outside of the inner belt down to Woodlawn Road. About 4 miles. A former mayor of Charlotte once called it The Corridor Of Crap. They tore down old buildings and built one apartment building after another the past 15 years and the area is thriving with young people enjoying plenty of new restaurants, bars, live music venues, breweries, etc. Akron can do this on a smaller scale, but they can't let nostalgia for old, bad ideas hold them back.

"Well GP1, if they build these apartments, there is nothing to do"...  Well, build multi use apartments/entertainment like on the South End. Young people want to live in places where access to fun is easily accessible. Make it so.

If Akron is smart they will take the space where the inner belt was and turn it into a park with some amenities. Kind of like a mini central park.Right now there is a faction who thinks it should be some kind of reparations project to right a precieved wrong from 60 years ago. If you want to attract young people to live downtown there needs to be someplace for recreation. Charlotte has a big advantage with the nice year round weather. But Akron has nice enough weather to make it useful for 9 months of the year.
