Lee Corso Picks Akron!!??
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Some could learn a lesson from Kirk?I kid because I care. -
I think you've confused Central Florida with Florida State or Florida. It is a HUGE deal for their sorry, won-nothing CUSA school to beat an ACC program.

Seriously -- Do you really think there's any similarity between a school from Akron beating Ohio State -- local media darling, national marketing machine, year-in-year-out National Championship contender, BCS Championship finalist...and beating lowly NC State? There's only a handful of wins that would fall under within an OSU category - USC, Texas, Michigan (as witnessed last weekend), Florida...that's about it. Beating NC State is like beating Vanderbilt. Maybe lower.NC State, by the way, lost to Central Florida last Saturday. Did you hear everyone talking about the big Central Florida win over NC State? I didn't.A 2-9, or 5-6, or even an 8-4 MAC team doesn't beat Ohio State. An Akron team that finishes 9-3, at worst, is the only caliber of team capable of winning that game. If an Akron team travels to Columbus and wins, that team doesn't lose to Temple and Buffalo. Even crappy Akron teams don't lose to Temple or Buffalo.Beating OSU would dwarf anything ever accomplished by the University of Akron football program. It would make a bigger media splash than winning 10 consecutive Motor City Bowls.

I believe the question was "Would you rather beat OSU and not win the MACC, or lose to OSU and win the MACC?" No one said anything about beating OSU and going "1994 Faust" on the remainder of the season. If we somehow beat OSU, the chances are pretty good that we'd finish the season bowl-eligible. If we tripped up in the conference, yet still had a respectable season, we'd go bowling. I would take a win over OSU and the MAC's 2nd or 3rd bowl over the MAC championship and the MCB any day.Someone told me once that "You can't place a value on playing in front of 105,000 people in Columbus." Logically then, the value of a win in front of those 105,000 should dwarf anything the Universtiy of Akron could ever fathom.

Curious will we follow our past trend?
Captain Kangaroo replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
I think we'll be OK against the run this year, but aren't you forgetting the obvious Captain? In the MAC championship, Wolfe went crazy for well over 200 What I MEANT to say is "other than those 270 yards he posted against us in the MAC Championship game, Garett Wolfe never did squat against us." How'd I forget THAT? -

You keep saying that the 3-3-5 can't stop the run. How did Penn State run against us? Penn State didn't have a back like Wells or Saine for that matter. Wells had 16 rushes for 48 yards against YSU. Obviously he's a better back than that. But if YSU can contain him, I think we'll be ok. Other than Deangelo Williams (1st round NFL draft pick), JD's defense has historically done a great job against the run. As an example -- Garrett Wolfe never did squat against us. -

No way we lose to Temple @ home. They're atrocious. When we lost to Army, you could kind of see it coming. Army had't won in a while, but they were playing well. And, the weather was terrible. We were pretty ripe for the picking.Buffalo always gives us a tough game in Buffalo. But...I saw Turner Gill coach at the Rubber Bowl last year. The guy has no clue. He looks to be @ Buffalo what Thompson was to Ball State basketball...a guy with good name recognition...and little substance. Remember the end of the first half of the Buffalo game last fall...it set D-1 football back 5 years! -
Breaking News: Brutus arrested.

The tie is my favorite part! -
AWESOME block! Was that Laube? He's my favorite special teams player. If it wasn't Laube...he's STILL my favorite special teams player.
-
I thought he had a solid camp, and a great game against Army. Hopefully he can get 4-5 carries/game every week.
-
All I know is I saw Army's punter bombing away, and our guy was like-driving directional punts right to the receiver and getting punts blocked. OSU might block 4 punts this week if we don't shore things up. And run a few back for TD's too.

Haven't been there since the Zips game in '01 Captain, but when we were there, the "sanctioned" parties were in the hotel parking lots off Lane St, Ave, whatever. You just walk across the St. John parking lot to the shoe.I was flabergated at how High St had declined. It used to be so vibrant. No more "kegs and eggs" at Papa Joe's!Sad, very sad. I don't know about you, but I hate the "sanctioned/organized" tailgate stuff. Standing around drinking overpriced draft beer with 1,000 drunks is a drag. Any "real" tailgate lots around?
-
I'll give credit where credit's due -- I just got a nice hotel room for under $100.00 (for Friday night). Beats the hell out of the $350/nite, mandatory 2-nite stay policy @ Penn State last year.I will ask this - Anyone know of a decent place to tailgate prior to this week's game. All I hear are horror stories of Nazi-esque alcohol arrests. I want to have a couple beers prior to the game, grill something and walk to the stadium. Is it possible in Columbus?

One thing I truly detest on this board is people who lie about something I said, or anyone else said, to prove a their own BS point. Here is my quote regarding armbands and Charlie Coles (from LAST MARCH, BTW): I that isn't clear enough for you, and you take my armband suggestion as "unprecedentedly selfless that would benefit Akron" then you are one ignorant dude. Otherwise, you are a liar. It is one or the other. My original post is easily searched on this site. Since you are still obsessed with it 6 months after it was originally posted, you might want to check it out.As an OSU fan, you have no idea what is feels like when the NCAA screws you over. None whatsoever. The rules are all made to suit the BCS schools. Pain? Shock? Outrage? You didn't get to experience any of it. Lucky you.I will give you one opportunity to respond. Then I am locking the thread. If BuckZip wants to give you some cute smilie in support of his lying/ignorant Buckeye bud, I'll let that stand too. I think it is great that you guys stick together.

You are a trip! How egotistical can one be to post pro-OSU crap on a Zips board and assume Zips fans "cop out" when they'd rather play some ball with their son, mow the lawn, enjoy a glass of wine with their wife on the patio...do whatever, rather than type at a keyboard about OSU for an hour or two? This will break your heart, but he's the sad, sad news for you -- debating OSU on the Akron Zips Fan Message board is REALLY REALLY boring to 99% of the people here. Despite your egotistical thoughts to the contrary, the Big 10 is a little bitch here. This is the Zips world! Call Kenny Roda, write the PD, write the Beacon, Bucknuts.com, call Mike Trivisonno...they'll all whoop it up with you OSU fans. Not here. Does a little "thumbs up" emoticon from BuckZip mean that much to you? It must. If so, you've come to the right place. But that's all the response you seem to generate here. It isn't just me that doesn't respond to the OSU drivel (hint hint). On ZIPSNation.org, there's no place for OSU. Never has been, never will be. The Zips fan comes first here. And second and third. And the egotistical OSU guys that can't comprehend that...the guy that thinks EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE cares about the buckeyes...well...type away boys!! The world revolves around you!! :lol:And why didn't you address MY response regarding Miami and the armbands? It couldn't be because you "copped out," now. Could it? :lol:Six minutes of my life wasted...but in an odd sort of way, this time it made me feel "whole?" Viva La Anti-OSU Cohorts!!!

That's odd. We were in the W 3rd lot by about 2pm. A TON of us. I met Zipsrifle and KentZip for the first time. Others that stopped by were DrZ, Johnny Utah, Z-Pouch and more...a veritible cavalcade of stars!! If you ever want to hook-up prior to a game, just PM me.

1.) I maintain my stance on the "Total F-ing Dirtbags" comment. 2.) Sometimes, when a few OSU fans want to type mile-long posts...it is just best to bow out. To say the POV was proven proposterous is right...in your "world." I felt there was nothing productive to be gained by extending that thread. I was right.3.) That's a good one!! Like any Akron fan, I want what's best for the MAC. The Zips got hosed by the NCAA in not receiving a post-season bid. It could have happend to any MAC team. That's why Miami should stick up for the MAC (not Akron). If the MAC, and other mid-majors don't raise a stink when the "Big Conference" schools step on them, things will never change. Sorry if that concept is tough for you to grasp. But when you're an OSU fan, I understand why you'd hope the MAC schools would just keep quiet and allow less-worthy BCS schools take bids from better mid-majors. You guys need the cash.

5th Quarter Show--what are your thoughts?
Captain Kangaroo replied to radiozip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I LOVE the idea. I listed to it the whole way home...even through the static. The interview with Coach Ferri (fer-REE, BTW) was great. I liked his no-nonsense answers to all the questions. I couldn't call in...it was all I could muster just to stay between the wite lines and stay awake on the way home. I'll make it a point to call in in the future. -
In your "world" that's probably true. However, this is the discussion board of a mid-major school. When a 1-AA school or a MAC school beats a Big 10 school it hits home with us, and is worth of mention on this board. As a shill for OSU and the Big 10, you wouldn't understand. In fact it is very obvious you don't understand. Nice post, Dan!! And congrats to Andy!
