  1. Side note: This kid looks like a young Jason Taylor.....he could be his little brother/twin!
  2. You know who else could have helped........LEE OWENS. There was nothing precluding him from doing so. I've heard conflicting stories about Lee's character , I tend to believe he was and is a good guy, but why didn't HE step it up for these guys? I give JD a pass on this one. He doesn't know these guys, he's probably seen limited film on them, and it would be tough to go to the NFL powers to be and make a case for them when he really knows less about them than we do. There's no excuse for the boss, he should have and as far as we know, didn't. Pro Scout, good to have you back on the board!
  3. I have a campaign idea for this whole thing, tell me if its stupid? "Frye - Returning the Heisman to its Home" or something to that tune. You know given John Heisman was at Buchtel, this is a great opportunity to remind people of that fact an educate those that don't know. UAM, you listenting? "Legendary coach John Heisman had in 1894 directed Buchtel College to a 12-6 win over the Buckeyes at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. "
  4. Z-P, no problem bro, I don't mind going off the topic every now and then as well, with two exceptions (politics and religion). Those are two areas that most people have strong opinions about, and being that we're all friends here , I believe its better left "off the table." I use this board to escape, as I said before, the bombardment of coverage of all that stuff. That being said, no emoticans ( think thats what there called) in your last post What's the deal?
  5. Z-P, I come to this board to escape all the political/news of the day stuff . But since you brought it up, I will say this (and don't take it personally ) Al Franken is an idiot, you may actually become more stupid by reading his crap! Zipper, ditto to everything you said! Terrorists!!!!! Capn, to answer your question, this post would fit right in on MACbbs, which is precisley why I haven't vistited the sight for months.
  6. I really hope we see all of the above. I want to say that it will all come in due time. At one point or another I've thought the same thing about all your points.....even the concession stand stuff. It is the worst system ever!!!!! Why aren't there hot dog and beverage guys walking around the seats selling?????? Floor burns???? The hustle has been gone since 97. The energy on the bench was NEVER there with Hip. The only clutch player I have ever seen wear a Zip uniform was Jaimie Bosley. Anytime he had the ball at the end of the game with the game on the line, I knew we had a shot to win. In no other player did I have that confidence. Good post CK, lets all hope after next year you can come up with a completely new wish list. JP
  7. As for Gary Waters, I realize he is a well respected coach and deserves kudos for winning the NIT. Actually, Rutgers did not win the NIT, Michigan did, so please send Kudos to Tommy Amaker not Mr. Waters.
  8. Zwick is another shining example of how Ohio talent either gets shipped off to an out of state school, or in this case, gets buried and unused at OSU. There is no debating Zwick's talent. His numbers in high school were mammouth. The problem is that he committed to a program where he has not, to this point, been able to prove himself in game situations. Now, don't get me wrong, he may still be a bust in college. But a kid with his numbers and apparant talent should have been starting or the number one backup as a true freshman, not redshirted and playing with reserves. In his freshman year, zwick had to fight for the job against a senoir and two year starter, a junior who was the heir apparant and I believe 2 other true freshamn quarterbacks who were all promised the same thing "you're our man." OSU hordes the talent, they do it for no ther reason but to sustain their stronghold as "THE" ONLY premier D-1 school in Ohio. Tons of talent head to Columbus where they get flushed down the Rothlesberger is a shining example of what "can" be. HE was heavily recruited by OSU and may have been stuck on the back burner like Zwick had he chose to go that route. But he was smart, chose Yuppie U and now will probably be the second overall pick in the NFL draft. I, for the life of me, cannot understand why a player would chose to go to OSU and fight for a position with 3-4 other guys who are just as good if not better than you. There are many other D-1 schools in Ohio where they could go and start! JMO
  9. Saw this story and guess who was the first person to come to mind?????
  10. " Yeah I'm sure thats what they were thinking when they hired him..?..what a friggin idiot! You know who else fell in the above category of those who are lifelong MAC guys???????? Hipsher!!!!!! Note to Ellen........get off your ass, pick up the phone, talk to the UA people and ask them why they hired him. How about interviewing MT? How about interviewing JD, or even..............Dambot himself!!!! It's called gettting "the scoup straight from the horses mouth!" This "editorial" crap we get in the Beacon and the Dealer is useless. Couple quotes here, blah blah blah there, Zips have blah blah blah coming back next year......its all fluff. I'd like to see a transcript of an interview of MT, JD, Dambrot, etc published in the paper. Thats what you see in the dispatch with OSU coaches. I don't care what Ellen, Tammy, Stephanie, or David Lee think! This is just crap and that why they have no credibility. Oh and by the way, it won't get better even if we do win. Look at the success that Can't has had and they get almost as little ink as Akron and the quality is just as bad. It won't change until the mindless numbnut editors over there fire the whole friggin sports staff and start clean. I want to
  11. Hipsher probably was the best caliber coach Akron could get at the time. Some of you may not remember HOW BAD the Coleman Crawford years were. He literally destroyed any semblance of a D-1 program that we had. Not many candidates were lining up to take that job. Plus Hipsher was at the time an "up and comer" for the most part, had ties to Ohio and the MAC. Hipsher was quick out of the box. He seemed to get the most out of those early teams. Unfortunately the successes were short lived He was though, as we all know, a flush in the pan. As someone stated before, he did not leave the cupboard bare, the program has not been a perennial bottom feeder under Hipsher. But at the same time, we have had little to no "real" success. That's where Dambrot can hopefully take us.
  12. Ratfink, I don't necessarily disagree with your post, but am curious as to what you think the admin should be doing at this point? We are 5 1/2 months from the first kickoff, and summer (waiting for football anyway) feels like an eternity. Are we talking billboards, commercials, what? I'd like to see the University help him get some free press. Bring on an intern or hire a young grad to focus on this task primarily. It would be a good experience and you could get him/her cheap. Talk to the papers daily, see if we can get some ink there. See if they can get him on the morning am sportsstations. Then as the season approaches, buy a couple half hour programs on local TV and do a few meet the new Zips with highlights on Frye. I don't know how the big time schools do it, but thats where I'd start.
  13. I had a class with JT back in 1994-1995, hell maybe it was 1996. Anyway he was known on campus but no big fuss was made when he walked through the door. I remember him being pretty down to earth. I guess if I'd known then of his future "stardom" I would have carried his books for him or something We could've been boyz? Wasn't he a Faust recruit?
  14. I can see 30K as well. It will take some gimmicks but its not out of the realm of possibility. Maybe have some Browns there to sign autographs, maybe Jason Taylor will come in for Akron, Chad Pennington for Marshall, etc. Question is, will 30K still look empty? Browns stadium holds 73K. You gotta use the lower sections only or the place will look barren. Maybe Zipnation.org can rent out a luxury suite for the game ?

I concur, I'm not the "censorship" type, but the stupidity needs to end. JP
  16. Welcome to the last 9 years of my life!
  17. Yah know, nothing better than pissing on Kents parade. Way to go Seniors, way to go Zips, you have made his alumn proud again! JP
  18. saw this on the bbs board, posted by a Can't fan, probably just rumor but its an interesting one: "Rumor has it that one of the reasons why Dean Pees quit Can't was over the 2004 schedule. For moving the Akron game to the first week of the 2003 season, Akron was supposed to return the favor in 2004. Rumor has that the original schedule did not show this and Can't/Pees raised a fit over it. It has been suggested that Akron/Can't at Can't will be the first MAC game for Can't, but will be after the 3 OOC games and may hurt Can't's attendance."
  19. Hey look guys! Andy's girlfreind (aka andyhipsherfan34 and akronballa34) found her way over here! Love is in the air!
  20. Link Winters considered for the Can't Job? Wouldn't this make for an interesting Akron/Can't game for years to come?
  21. Interesting.......there must be something more behind this. Things looked like they were going in the right direction at Can't since Pee's arrival? Maybe he took the program as far as he could take it and wanted out? I don't know, I'd rather be the head coach of a D-1 football team than a linebacker coach in the NFL. JP
  22. This is great! Looks like us slugs are legit! Who do we pay and how much? Let me know and the check will be in the mail tommorow..... really, it will be
