Ahhh, yes the good ole days .....coach fights player , player fights coach , player quits , player reinstated , player benched for whatever reason , coach rants on sideline , team feels like nothing is good enough for the coach whole team quits, first place in MAC east , elimintated in first round of tourney , at least I was able to drink before, at halftime and after the games and so and so on.......... Glad those days are long gone ....although at times they were fun .

Just wanted to thank all the posters here. You guys do a great job with posting info, insight and analysis. Thanks also to the mods who do a good job of patroling the crap posts and threads. I still try and frequent the board daily although I rarely have time to post anymore and with work and family. I remember the days when there were about 4 of us who frequently posted on the Ohio.com forum! My how far we've come! Again, thanks to those who post, the mods and even the idiots posters who make me laugh every now and then Just thought we all needed a little pat on the back! ZipsNation Rocks btw, has anyone considered having Zipsnation.org t-shirts printed???? I know it would help with the costs of maintianing the board.

If this game was played back in the 90's YSU probably would have been the favorite!
-
Surfing UB's fan site and thought this would be a good idea for us. Don't know how much $$$$ it takes to maintain this site but if we could sell a few shirts maybe we could subsidize the cost and maybe make a donation to Zip Athletics with the proceeds. Anyone have a connection to a t-shirt company? Check out the "buy a T-shirt link" about midway down the page: http://www.ubfan.com/install/

Why is there no "Buzz" regarding Zips Hoops?
JP Morgan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
All of the above pretty much sum it up for me (with the exception of the Juice and ZW thing?). I have wondered why my apathy towards the Mens B-ball program has set in. Frankly, much of it has to do with family committments. But some of it goes back to a few different things. 1. The schedule sucks. The only game I'm really looking forward to is the Can't games. Usually a Big Name team will get my B-ball juices flowing again. 2. I have no expectations for this season. It's sorta a wait and see type thing. If they win great....if they lose...oh well. 3. Not being able to attend games. Unless you see these guys play, all they are are names. I have no "favorite player" as in years past. Plus I have no one to rip either? It's a new year with a new coach, he gets a pass in my book. 4. Its also the Football thing......I never thought I'd be a bigger football fan than basketball, but it's happened. I love Zips Football and can't wait for it to start back up! That's it for me! -
Now that's a hall of fame post! Classic!

A Line I Recalled from a Pittsburgh Columnist
JP Morgan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I really don't see the point of this guys story? Is he calling for the elimination of D-1 transfer rules? Thats a bad idea, if you open college football to a "free agency" type sytem, you'll have players transfering every year from team to team. You know who will ultimatley suffer......MAC schools, CUSA, and EVEN BIG EAST SCHOOLS (ie Pitt) ect. It would only allow the "elite" schools to get better. -
Oh brother!?! I guess this is what you get when you don't have to register to post?

Listening to my favorite morning show today (ESPN - Mike and Mike) and they had Mel Kiper Jr. again as a guest. The topic of quarterbacks in the 2005 draft again came up. Kiper seems to think that following will be the first three QB's taken (in this order): 1. Matt Leinart (USC) top 10 pick 2. Aaron Rogers (Cal) top 10 pick 3. Charlie Frye (Akron) late first round pick Kiper also said that Frye could increase his stock if he has a good senior bowl. He said that Phillip Rivers wasn't on the "draft map" last year until people saw him at the senior bowl practices and he shot right up into the top 10. Also, thought you might find this interesting: Top Five at the QB position

As you say, I wouldn't compare the Solich situation to Fausts, to put it in locker room talk......Faust couldn't hold a jockstrap to Solich. This is a good move for OU and they should be excited. I guess we won't have the Bobcats to kick around anymore

If I had a nickle for every time I've heard that!

Way to get the scoop DLM ! What did you do, watch Fox sports Pittsburgh last night to get the information for your story? I can only imagine the phone call that DLM made to JD to get the "scoop." Ring, Ring, Ring JD - "Hello" DLM - Hey, coach, David Lee Morgan here with the Akron Beacon Journal. JP - Who? DLM - David Lee Morgan with the Akron Becon Journal! JD - Uhhhh, I already have a complimentary subscription, but thanks for the call.... DLM - No, no, no, I'm a writer for the Beacon Journal..... JD - Oh, sorry I haven't read any of your article's. DLM - You should, I'm really good at what I do. JD - OK? So what can I do for you? DLM - I heard on fox sports last night that you may be considering leaving for the Pittsburgh Steeler job. JD - Well, I don't think Bill Cower has been fired or has quit, are you sure you don't mean the Pitt Panthers? DLM - Uhhhh, yeah, that's what I meant.......silly me. So are you considering the Pitt Job? JD - Naw, We did some good things this year and I think we have a great thing going. DLM - Thanks for the inside info coach, I'll break this story tommorrow morning! JD - OK buddy? You sure you don't have any other questions? DLM - Nope, then plenty of inside scoop for today! Bye. JD - (Hangs up and then say's) What an idiot!

Jacksonville Hoops Suffers Crushing Blow

Looks like Dave has lost some weight. -
I'm going to have fun with this one: Since you brought it up here, are the original 13 rules of basketball: 1. The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands. 2. The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist. 3. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man running at good speed. 4. The ball must be held by the hands. The arms or body must not be used for holding it. 5. No shouldering, holding, pushing, striking or tripping in any way of an opponent. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul; the second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made or, if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game. No substitution shall be allowed. 6. A foul is striking at the ball with the fist, violations of Rules 3 and 4 and such as described in Rule 5. 7. If either side makes three consecutive fouls it shall count as a goal for the opponents (consecutive means without the opponents in the meantime making a foul). 8. A goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or batted from the grounds into the basket and stays there, providing those defending the goal do no touch or disturb the goal. If the ball rests on the edges, and the opponent moves the basket, it shall count as a goal. 9. When the ball goes out of bounds, it shall be thrown into the field and played by the first person touching it. In case of dispute the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The thrower-in is allowed five seconds. If he holds it longer, it shall go to the opponent. If any side persists in delaying the game, the umpire shall call a foul on them. 10. The umpire shall be the judge of the men and shall note the fouls and notify the referee when three consecutive fouls have been made. He shall have power to disqualify men according to Rule 5. 11. The referee shall be judge of the ball and shall decide when the ball is in play, in bounds, to which side it belongs, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when a goal has been made and keep account of the goals, with any other duties that are usually performed by a referee. 12. The time shall be two fifteen-minute halves, with five minutes rest between. 13. The side making the most goals in that time shall be declared the winner. Uhh, I consider myself both a "dedicated fan and strategist" and think women's basketball is a bore Again This one I'll give you, the men's game often digresses into one-on-one streetball. You see that more in the pro game, college and high school is a little more disciplined. At the same time women's games are often turnover ridden back and forth nothingness. In the end I'll never be a fan of woman's basketball. But hey, to each his own.

Mike and Mike seemed to know who he was. He said something like this "....and in keeping with the MAC's tradition of putting a QB in the first round Charlie Frye from Akron will likely go #2" Can't remember who he said would go #1

I tried watching the Ohio U v. Ohio State Womens hoop game which followed the Zips/Dukes game on fox the other night and I've got to be truthfull about this one. That was dreadfull! I don't know what it is, but womens hoops is horrible! The pace of the game was slow and the play was sloppy! You know I laugh when I hear people say this kind of crap. On several ocassions in college I played against then current and former female Zips players. I'll give you this, some of them can shoot, but one-on-one, I smoked em'! It's not a matter of being sexist, it's simply a matter of genetics. Men a generally bigger, faster and stronger.

Don't know if anyone else caught it, but on ESPN's radio show "MIKE AND MIKE" this morning they were interviewing Mel kiper (sp?) on the upcoming draft. When they discussed QB's, Kiper said Frye would likely be the 2nd overall quarterback taken in the Draft which they say will put him in the first 20 overall selections.

Too early to really evaluate this team but here's some preliminary thoghts: I like the Zips new style of play, get the rebound, get up court! I know it's one game, but we shot alot of 3's last night. I hope that isn't our "bread and butter" because that in and of itself will not get us past the first round of the MAC tournament. We looked small last night. Our size might be a problem this year. These guys won the game with hustle.......HOW REFRESHING! Dan Hipshir was no where to be seen on the Zips Sideline........HOW REFRESHING! Did you see how small that crowd was? ala - JAR arena during the crawford era (minus the students of course) Prediction - Dru Joyce will lead the MAC if not the nation in steals this year. I'm sure I thought of more last night while watching the game, can't seem to remember now, I think my brain has shut down for the weekend already...its been that kid of week.

YES.....Even if we lose our a$$ financially, its a win for the program. The University needs to look at it not in terms of $$$$$. Spend next years advertising budget if they have to. There's no better advertising and no better recruiting tool than to be able to say we played in a bowl. The dividends will pay off in years to come!

As of the day before Thanksgiving, yes. I saw Sullivan (or some other kicker) kicking feield goals in the fieldhouse. Also I spoke with several players outside of the varsity locker room and they were still hitting the weights pretty hard. I asked one of the players if he heard anything about a bowl, his reply was "not yet."

1. I Couldn't be more proud of this team, the staff and the fans. This ship has been turned around and is now moving ahead in leaps and bounds. 2. For the first time in 10 years I saw a Zip team that went into a big game with an expectation to win and the intensity and game plan to do it. These guys played like "big time" college football players! 3. In the end this game came down to the Offensive and Defensive lines in the second half. Miami just seemed to take over the line of scrimmage. Frye had less and less time, and the pass coverage seemed to really tighted up for Miami. I wish I could watch the tapes the coaches have to get a better idea of what was happening downfield. 4. Biggs was great! Moves well laterally and can really turn on the speed when the hole opens up. 5. The game plan put together by JD was awesome! He gave our guys every opportunity to make plays....thats what a good coach does. 6. I will miss Frye, he's just fun to watch. Tonight I really got a glimps of his scrambling ability (unfortunatley). He's one heck of an athlete and l look forward to watching him on Sundays. Thanks Charlie! I don't know about any bowl prospects. I'm going to assume the season is over. I've read here and other places that there may only be 60 bowl eligible teams for 58 spots. If that's true I'll put my money on us being one of the 2 left out. We just haven't had enough success to shake our persona of being "Akron the losers" and face it, we don't travel well. 2-3 more years of sucess, we might change that. Congrats to Miami, enoy your division crown but don't get to comfortable at the top! The Zips are on the rise!

Of course they're not going to the game.....didn't yoiu hear about the BIG SALE at Abercrombie and Fitch this weekend???? 50% all Male Boxer/Briefs!!!!!

CK, my understanding of the overtime rule is that there is only 3 overtime sessions? If no winner then it's tie?
