i'll share my thoughts here as i will try to bridge the gap. i am a grad of four years now and have been a season ticket holder ever since. i am still young enough to know a few people who attend the U (six year plan) but old enough to talk with the ak oldies at fund raising events. many of the people that post they are nervous about the new football stadium went to school when the jar was built (or earlier). now every time they attend a b ball game they have to look at that piece of crap facility and think "what if"? i understand why you are nervous and truly understand just how big a moment this is in the history of the school. but, for the younger kids, they have nothing to be worried about. in the past 7-10 years akron has transformed its university into a beautiful place to attend. everything they have built has been classy and has given the university a unique look. they have also built great fields for the sports program already in the field house and the new softball field. we do not know your pain in the past but we understand. if you just got to the U and are new to this board don't take things for granted and talk to an oldie to gain some perspective on how things were. for the oldies have faith, things will be great! remember that the athletic dept. has to work with the prez. and everything he's green lit has been exceptional!

a few quick thoughts. made it down to the game and the atmosphere was electric.sat up in the nose bleeds but could still hear the rowdies great job tonight! i never thought i'd say this but akron won in spite of dru today. he looked lost much of the game. dials and wood were huge that goes with out saying. great to see nate gut it out but does anyone know if he could shoot if he needed to? absolutely loved hearing on the post game that labron was getting booed by Can't State fans as akron ran off the court! also heard K.D. talk about some family issues, does any one have any info on that? haven't felt this good since i was up in the D for the mcc! akron has to MO, the rest of the conference has been put on notice! can't wait for thursady!

had a blast at the lizard last year! does anyone know if they are "the official akron pre game" this year. most bars in the gate way area don't allow under 21 at night. you might want to try harry buffalo's as they also serve food. i would recommend flannery's but i am pretty sure that they are ohio's pre game spot again.

Other than the pleasure of beating the Flushes on their home court, there really isn't any other significance to Sunday's game....not that there needs to be.last time i checked winning the mac east is significant. momentum into the tourney is also very important. beating up on can't one more time will do wonders for this team. they beat can't, there's no way the loose in the tourney. see you guys at the game sun. and at the q!

ZW i agree the scooter has done a better job recently but thought he turned into the color guy from major league yesterday. i only got to hear the second half and there were two 5 min. stretches that i didn't hear the scooter speak. the first time is when i turned the game on. i was surprised to hear him after awhile as i thought akron just sent frenchy. i think scooter really shines during the post game interviews. a majority of his questions are well thought out and generally get a good response from k.d./player. aside from the game yesterday i too think he's picked it up towards the end. lets hope he stays on next year to build more chemistry with frenchy.

does any one have an idea as to how the conference schedule will play out with temple in the east?
-
shouldn't this be in the recruiting board?
-
still thought he'd do more than 27. alleman will be a starter in the pros. he's still very raw. getsy, could be a 3 stringer. as for smith, he a ufa and should resign with minn. as their starting fs. why so negative 74zip?
-
a little surprised he didn't put up big numbers on the bench (24 reps). he's 40 time is really good though. hope luke performs well tomorrow!

just wanted to say great game rowdies! very loud and very proud! also props to whom ever had the "for a good time" sign. classic!

its really hard to critique either McKnight or Conyers. they played 2 and 5 minutes against AP. and get about that much PT every game. McKnight certainly passes the eye ball test and Conyers looks very athletic. I would guess for a wing player like Conyers who always had the ball in high school has the harder transition and that is clear when he does get on the court. The one thing that scares me is PG. If McNess or Stewart can't run the show and contribute 20-25 min. a game Akron will have problems with teams that can press next year. Every time Dru came out yesterday AP pressed Ced and Dials and each were very sloppy with the ball either turning the ball over or taking too long to set up the offense. Guard play wins titles in college. Aside from that next years team has the potential to be very scary and will be by far the biggest team in the MAC. Heres to winning out!

well said capt. beat me to it. if anything i'd like to see akron change up their scheme in the secondary and play a little more press coverage. they certainly have the speed to do so. the only problem is they need to get to the qb before you can make such an adjustment. lets hope this problem will be fixed this upcoming year. it sucks that coach alford left was a great recruiter on the east coast. does anyone know if his move was lateral or a promotion?

Should we drop IU in favor of a 65-0 Hampton beatdown at the Rubber Bowl just to enhance our questionable hopes of an at-large bowl invite? Why waste our energy on all the great recruits if all we want to do is beat on 1-AA dregs?truly a tough question. IMO Akron shouldn't play the Hampton's of the world as it sends the wrong message about the program moving in the right direction. you don't see Boise St. or Fresno going that rout and its brought more respect to their programs. Also, its really hard to schedule a 1 for 2. most of the time the "bigger" school will find a way out of the road game if the team they are playing is a concern. Although it would be hard to do I'd love to see a very tough road game like an OSU, a low level IA school like an Army/Sun Belt school at home, and either a high tier Mid Major like a Marshall/TCU home/home or a lower BCS school on the road like a IU/UCONN. I still like the neutral field idea from time to time. it will help in the long run. If Akron continues to knock of a team every year or every other year it will build the reputation of the program heading into the new stadium. once the new stadium is up, I'd love to see two home games minimum.

so far so good! watching the UT EMU game on t.v. and listening to the akron game. UT looks asleep so far and are behind at the half. lets hope they stay that way.

there's been a lot of talk about the "home" game at browns stadium as a bad thing but on other threads people are saying we dont recruit all the talent in the cleveland/akron area. this would be a great opportunity to get some press from both papers, invite a ton of local talent to the game, and perhaps have on t.v. other than a long commute for canton fans i don't see much of a downside. i think the real question on the schedule is if IU backs off should akron play a team like UCONN on the road or a sun belt/IAA team at the bowl. most of you would want the home game but the UCONN game makes more sense as it is a very winnable game and will get the team more press. the flip side is if they loose you're possibly looking at another 5-7 depending on conference play.

this is an amazing class! but like some have already posted. hope they all stay for 4 years and not jump to the pros. seriously, this should be the best class akron has ever had for any sport!
-
it doesn't really sound like that was the case with hill. he just was torn over two schools. he grew up in the d.c. area a big fan of UVA and always dreamed of playing there. he didn't think he'd get an offer so he looked at other schools and fell in love with the coaches at akron and mentioned his bond with coach Alford. his dream school came into the picture late and the kid had to think it over. should he have publicly gone back and forth so much? of course not but he's in high school cut him some slack. many bigger profile players are starting to do this, lets be happy we got a great player with tons of ability!
-
it would also count for juco players who signed and are enrolled for spring classes such as Miguel Graham.
-
John Hannah was one of the top recruits coming out of high school. he went to south carolina and played some as a true frosh. for what ever reason he decided to transfer to ncsu but went to a small juco (instead of red shirting) it appears that akron is looking at Hannah as an end. the man could come in and play right away for the zips. he's a very athletic man for his size. would be huge to get him.

J.D. has proven to be a strong closer the past two years. with most of the kids solid on their verbals i would think he'd be able to pull one or two surprises on nloi day.
-
wow! that's all i can say!

you should replace williams with brinson, but your point is a good one. only 5 db's isnt a lot. also corner will be done after next season as will tate. we need db's to fill the gap.

i like the schedule. the players are already used to this format so five (yes five) home games wont be a challenge. the non conference games are great, one money game and 3 very winnable games. i like the fact that we go to u conn as the zips are doing a lot of recruiting in the maryland area. the mac schedule is much better as a majority of akron's tougher games are at the bowl. getting temple and ub helps tremendously. the army game will do well for attendance as the university and the browns will "paper" the hell out of the game. great experience to take the family the browns stadium on the cheap and great tailgating. finally there's a lot or opportunity for television exposure this year. already 4 games on espn. the osu game will be on t.v. for sure and there's a chance for the other 3 games to get picked up. also expect the Can't game to be picked up by fsn. that's at least half the games probably 7 on t.v. is it a perfect schedule? of course not. is it better than last year? hell yes!
