Like I said earlier, don't be surprised by a repeat of the 63-60 barnburner of 2000.

Stanford Pre-game Thread
Z.I.P. replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I've been to Maples Pavillion, and I can tell you -- da tree (with help from the Cardinal student section) puts on a show unlike any other mascot. You should hope he shows up -- but Notre Dame's coming to town this weekend. Well, at least Stanford should win one! -
Lions' Early-season Strength of Schedule

Can you say, "Coppin State"? -
Holy Cow! I hope if our new AD is irresponsible enough to keep JD, that you raise Hell with him. A new coach will likely take 2-3 years to become competitive, but at least there will be some hope -- and some butts in the Info's seats. I'm pretty confident that Tommy Dub knows a change has got to be made. And an increased commitment must be shown in who the next coach is. No local yocals (Heacock), no washed up former BCS coaches (Mason). Get someone with a real future. Someone who other programs will want to grab away from Akron.

According to the box score, Ronnie played on Sunday vs Howard. What's his condition and schedule? Somebody ask KD and get back to me on that.

Even when the coach was Gerry Faust, and Akron was losing, the team was known for playing physical football -- especially on the offensive line. That hasn't been the case in many years. Akron is now known as a lightweight. I don't know how to change that, but it can be done -- no, it MUST be done! We keep getting beat like

So what are you suggesting? Throw roses on the field Sunday? Have a parade on Thursday? Only problem with that is, I believe UCLA is PAC-10 champs. We might meet them in N.C.

The story of Caleb Porter
Z.I.P. replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
''I was a guy who would do all the dirty work and make the players around me better,'' Porter said. ''I was smart defensively, and I was tough.''And I would rather die than lose.''Now that sums up what I would like to see in MY football club. In fact, the Rowdies might be interested in that as a chant in our next two games this November-December. -
NCAA second round vs. South Florida

Game over my friends! Ampai scores X 2 to provide the margin of victory. Another Dave Meves clean sheet. Shots were 14-1! Is anyone keeping the total goals scoresheet for the season? Gotta be nearing 60-5 or something around there. -

20 minutes played in the second half. No goals but shots are 4-0 for Akron this half. Continued domination. Looks like they're putting it together in the post-season. Even nearly keeping up with USF in fouls 9-10. Zach can tell us later how Dir-Tee the opposition has been! Meanwhile, we're starting the march to -

In other 2nd round games, Tulsa was forced to OT by a 90th minute goal by St Louis, but the Golden Canes pulled it out with a golden goal 7 minutes into the OT period.Virginia looks really hot at this point -- beating Bucknell 5-0, Will Bates and Tony Tchani each scoring a pair for the Cavaliers. My darkhorse team, Harvard defeated Monmouth 3-0 in Cambridge today. -

It's halftime folks. Grab a hotdog, as the Zippers lead 2-0. Shots are 7-1 for the home team. -

Make it a BRACE, Baby!!! Second goal for Tony Ampai in minute 33! 2-0 Akron. We are on our way to playing the winner of Stanford @ UC Irvine. -
Portland a potentially dangerous team. Clevelander Michael Green (The Dark Thunder as he likes to call himself) set up UNM's goal but the Pilots stormed back late, scoring with 6 minutes to play in regulation to set up OT. There are some VERY good second round matchups, like Portland travelling to NCSU; Maryland @ Penn State (good luck to the Lions -- please knock out the defenders!); and UCSB travelling to San Diego to take on the Toreros. On the Left side Stanford @ Irvine; St Louis going to Tulsa; seeded Butler playing @ Hoosierland. All these visitors have good chances of victory.Portland, Maryland, Duke and Drake all won on the road in the second round. None of these should come as big surprises, although I consider the win by the Dukies at Sparty as an upset. Now Drake winning in Columbus? It was ust a matter of time till THAT team lost.

Gametracker:http://www.ncaa.com/gametracker/launch/gt_...artschool=&Shots 4-1 for da Roos at the 14 minute mark. But none of what you require to win -- GOALS! Prediction: Nagbe scores before the half, assisted by Blair Gavin. -

Portland has both their men's and women's teams in the tourney and I believe the women are in the semi'sYes the Pilots are a venerated program And they are the Flushes of the NW -- but next year look for the Portland State Viks to win it all! Women for sure, but men might have a tough time getting past Akron, especially since they'll have to start a men's team between now and next season. Spoken like a PSU alum! To an Oregonian.

There's always next week! Shades of 2000, when UA beat EMU 63-60 in 16 OTs before 4 people. Or was it the other way around?

23-8 9:50 remaining. Uh Oh!Folks, it now 31-12. When do we call for the coaches head?

NC State leads 17-7. 12:31 to play in the half. When will those difficulties be cleared up?

June Jones when he coached Hawaii to the Sugar Bowl said "When you pass, three things can happen, and two of them are positive! Even when you have an incomplete pass, you learn from the defense, so that it helps you complete the pass the next time you run the same play."I think teams lose more often by failing to take calculated chances, than by being scared to take chances. That's true in more than football.
