This will serve as the official Akron tailgate party featuring the Akron Marching Band, Cheerleaders and everyone’s favorite mascot, Zippy. You are invited to join us for a buffet dinner at the Akron/Army VIP tailgate tent also at Mall C. The cost is $25 for adults and $10 for youth (ages 4-12). Enclosed is a promotional flier with complete information about the events. To purchase your game tickets and tickets to the VIP Tailgate party call the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-888-99-AKRON. Thank you once again for your support. We look forward to seeing you in Cleveland. GO ZIPS!

  2. no surprises...Akron tops MAC men’s soccer pollWednesday, August 15, 2007AKRON The University of Akron men’s soccer team was ranked No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference preseason coaches poll. The Zips also were picked to win the MAC Tournament title by the coaches. Fifteen letter-winners, including nine starters, return for the Zips, who were 13-5-1 and claimed a share of the MAC Championship last season.source

  3. I think it means no more Pluto articles on the Zips. Will the ABJ still cover UA with that kind of article/story? Maybe not. Will Pluto do any more articles on UA for the PD? Probably not when he can concentrate on doing articles on the Browns, Indians and Cavs.

  4. To answer some of your questions:1. All properties have not been acquired yet and eminant domain may be used. Two property owners are holding out and being somewhat vocal.2. We had no loges/box seats/etc., so any increase is a plus for us.3. Most if not all of the housing in the area is student rentals, so if they go to the games, the lights shouldn't be an issue. Thanks and good luck to you.

Shanahan holds hoop offers from Akron, Siena, Vermont, Colgate, Air Force, Bucknell, Lehigh and Robert Morris.
6'5" 195# SF, scout graded @ 80 (80-89: Outstanding ProspectPlayer has the ability to create mismatches against most opponents. He is a player that could be a contributor as a true freshman.)From the list of schools listed, I think we have a good chance to land him if KD wants him.
  6. Akron’s appearance in the 2005 Motor City Bowl was the first in school history. Could a new stadium be the springboard the university needs to take its football to the next level? Could it become the next University of Louisville, an urban school featuring a football program that has exploded onto the national stage?“It could be,” said Stacy. “But there are other things that need to be addressed like a new basketball arena before they’d have a chance at moving to that level.”
interesting that he brought the basketball arena into the conversation...
  7. And the Don... well, let's just say he's not my favorite person. He couldn't even make it to the press conference for the stadium. The biggest thing to happen to the city of Akron in a decade or more, and he couldn't get out of a speaking engagement in Cleveland. Give me a break.
He was just in a tiff about the Quaker Square deal and said he didn't want to make it look like he approved or had gotten over it.
  8. I mentioned this to my wife when I got home and she said the area across Main St from Canal Park "has some blighted buildings"... I thought that would make sense since it is near UA parking (Polsky Deck). I did a quick Google maps/Photoshop job and found that the JAR would fit if moved in the block bounded by Main, Exchange, Buchtel, and High, or up a block along Exchange between High and Broadway (if you remove Wheeler).Don't think small guys... Don did say he's had inquiries re: other leagues (minor league hockey, basketball, and arena football) that could locate here as well as the events that could be held there, not just UA b-ball.
