Akron Hockey pageLooks like the club team had a pretty good season. Maybe sometime in the future they will become a varsity team (in the new basketball arena)!
-
I think something like that is more likely once we outgrow the JAR and build an 8-10k arena. It would be wonderful for the area economy also.
-
That's good, but I have problems getting a clear signal when I'm heading west coming home from the JAR and that's IN AKRON! I'd much rather listen on an FM station.Anyway, I can pull in 1350 all the way up to north summit co, even in the day time. -
Since when is it ONLY college kids that are listening? And how is one supposed to have respect for classical music if one is never exposed to it? It's not all "elevator music"!The only problem with the classics is that yeah everyone likes them but remember there are these college kids that have no respect for classical music and dont really want to hear it. -
Razor is supposed to have info in his blog.

I think KD's comment about it "going to be hard" meant that we may have a down period sometime in the future and like he said (parapharasing as best I can remember), "remember that when we only have 12 wins or so". All teams will have a down period at some point (except Can't... they always suck).I also thought there were more people there than the "450" that Gaffney estimated; more like 600-800.

How about a Maynard Ferguson tribute (he died Aug 23, 2006)? Big band tunes usually work well. The John Williams show would be good. A Spanish theme (Malaguena, Carmen...) would be cool. Patriotic... Sousa...Sometimes the best music is stuff that many of the fans have never heard, but has lots of energy ("Theme from Mondo Cane - More", "Temptation", some classical music).

It was a fun event. I would guess about 800 people showed up (better than the Crawford-coached games!), as did WEWS news crew (with camera). I'm also going to guess that the guy with still camera was from the ABJ. We'll see if any of this gets published or just disappears.

if OSU has "nothing to gain" by playing us at the JAR, surely that means they have even less to gain by playing CSU, even if it is at the "Q".

Kiel, SUNY Canton is in Canton NY.That would be great ... if the most famous one with a Kangaroo wasn't oh, 12 miles away from you. -

I disagree. High step and swing can sound good: watch this1990 pregame videoRegarding the highstep, it was taken away from halftime because it makes the band sounds like crap.
Maybe someday they'll doubletime like we used to!That said, the band still marches highstep for pregame. Though only about the five people who bother to actually be in the stadium for pregame know this -
I'm really hoping to not see any of the grey painted support beams. I think they did a very nice job on Canal Park hiding the structural members.

I think softball, baseball, and volleyball are some of the big opportunities to increase revenues to at least what women's basketball is bringing in. Not saying they will make money, just that I think there's some untapped potential there.

There were only about 2100 at the Akron-Temple game last year if I remember correctly. We would have packed the place if we had hosted it!
-
Actually they are scheduled to play Navy there next year (fall 2008)Glad we did this before Can't did. -

Here here!!! Thanks coach & team for a wonderful year!*signed*

we might actually get some footage on the local news for that game since they won't have to go far. (more exposure!)
-
I think going away from the high step was partly because of pressure from music majors when they made marching band mandatory, and partly from the influence of lots of high school bands that have mostly switched to a drum corps competition band style. There are few non-corps style bands in the area. Why do we do away with the neat traditions that we have? -
how about returning to high step only and leave the walking to Can't.
-
sure, but I'm biased as an alumni band memberWould anyone like to see the old gate/arch from the end of the rubber bowl make a comeback in the new stadium? (refurbished of course)Also, don't forget about the Marching band:-it'd be nice to have our own section, with no railings in the front, so we could get in and out easily.-maybe a band room, or at least some storage space built into the stadium

so it sounds like basically he's a taller version of Goddard at this point...
