  1. I mentioned this to my wife when I got home and she said the area across Main St from Canal Park "has some blighted buildings"... I thought that would make sense since it is near UA parking (Polsky Deck). I did a quick Google maps/Photoshop job and found that the JAR would fit if moved in the block bounded by Main, Exchange, Buchtel, and High, or up a block along Exchange between High and Broadway (if you remove Wheeler).Don't think small guys... Don did say he's had inquiries re: other leagues (minor league hockey, basketball, and arena football) that could locate here as well as the events that could be held there, not just UA b-ball.

  3. could this be what someone was saying about "bricks falling" that were unrelated to the stadium?
  4. there would be enough room (and about a 15% larger footprint) if it runs E-W instead of N-S...
  5. Good to see them covering us. Wonder where it was on the printed version? There's also a story about selling the RB....ABJ link
  6. Yes. Schedule was redone to move them to a home game in '09 in the new stadium and reduce number of games at the RB.
  7. Mack has been busy hiring...Akron News Now link
  8. AkronNewsNow linkSounds like a good catch!
  9. aaahhh... those were the days!
  10. The total project IIRC is around $120 million, making the dorms around $75 million. I thought I heard soemthing about them looking for funding for that part of the project, so I think you are correct that that part will not be ready in '09 when the stadium opens. That also allows more time for the aquisition of the remaining parcels as it seems they only affect the dorms and not the stadium.

  12. no clue. I'm guessing it's more likely a tax thing for his estate.
  13. It was Mr. Taylor's own money, so I assume he holds the naming rights, not his company.
  14. I heard that they gave their own money (over a 20 yr period possibly) and told them to use the Infocision name. I also heard they wanted the amount to be kept secret.

  16. they had a countdown on it but that was replaced with "it has arrived"... oops... it's back again. too cool!
  17. I just got thru... tried earlier and nothing happened.Looks like they are just walking around, but I hear LP in what sounds like a meeting.
  18. I saw that... so, if Manny's so upset, wants to stay, and will change things to fit in, why isn't he talking to the U and the condo/retail developers? He stands to gain a lot more if he does.
  19. or will the ABJ spin it to "those poor souls who are going to have to move"?
  20. wear your Zips gear year-round... get Zips license plates (helps with scholarships and is tax deductable)... put Zips stickers in your car windows... hang Zips posters/schedules/etc. on your office/cubicle walls... fly a Zips flag at your house... there's tons of ideas we all can do to help with brand awareness.
  21. I remember hearing they got a good deal on bond rates when they announced the Landscape for Learning.
  22. BALAAM ZIP HOPEFUL:Al-Teric Balaam heads into Akron's preseason football camp looking for major playing time as a middle linebacker.Balaam, a 6-1, 225-pound sophomore from New Brunswick, made his collegiate debut last year and left quite a calling card. The former Zebra saw action in 11 of the Zips' 12 games and posted 10 tackles. However, Balaam is regarded as a talented athlete who the Akron staff will use to add depth at linebacker. He enters the preseason camp as a versatile performer who could play any of the Zips' linebacker positions.Balaam was a redshirt as a freshman after earning honors as a two-way performer for New Brunswick in his senior season.Balaam and the Zips host Army in the season debut Sept. 1 in Cleveland with the accent on rebuilding the defense. The Zips won the Mid-America Ccnference in 2005 but slipped to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference last season. Balaam could be in the right place at the right time in terms of getting more playing time and establishing himself as a key figure for the future.source
  23. check out the "residential" section... there are two project links for Spicer Village. One shows some of the UA property (athletic fields) and some ideas for integrating the new developments into the area, as well as some concept renderings for the buildings (far from final, I'm sure).Spicer Village architect
