  1. For those of us who don't know, what whistle blowing incident are you talking about?
  2. The mention of MAC coaches who moved up makes me think of Nick Saban, who had his first college head coaching job at The University of Toledo. His successor was Gary Pinkel, who was born and raised in Akron, graduating from Kenmore HS in 1973. Unfortunately, Pinkel attended and played football at Can't State University.
  3. Can't State has a branch campus in North Canton (Can't State-Stark County). Iv'e been there for some professional seminars and its actually a very nice campus with quality facilities.
  4. I thought the guy that blitzed possibly beat the snap by a split-second too, but the announcers never even mentioned it. If he was not offsides, then he timed it absolutely perfectly.
  5. Good day for Steelers fans yesterday. Beating Cleveland has almost gotten boring. The most funny thing to watch was a Cleveland team winning 21-9 at half come out and lose a game they clearly should have won because of all the big plays they made. Their body language looked like somehow they knew they were going to lose. The sporting lesson here is that winners win and loser lose.Cleveland still has a good and improving team though. DA may not be perfect, but he makes the Browns a better team as he makes the players around him better. Since the NFL is so bad, the Browns could win nine games with him this year. Why is this thread still alive again?Because someone had a thought to offer.
  6. I guess I'm having a hard time figuring why an OSU loss generates discussion on an Akron message board. I'm not trying to be a wise guy. It just baffles me. It has nothing to do with Akron.
  7. I think its a legitimate subject to bring up after all of the previous Frye vs. DA discussion. I'm a fan of Charlie (still am) and I think he was subjected to nothing but turmoil during his time in Cleveland so we still don't know what he's really got. Hopefully, someday he'll get another shot, in Seattle or elsewhere. Meanwhile, DA has certainly exceeded everyone's expectations. Maybe having Charlie gone was what he needed because while Charlie was here DA's performance was wildly unpredictable from game-to-game. I read that Chudzinski wanted DA all along because he did not think that Charlie had the physical tools for the offense he wanted to run. For me, I will officially say that "I stand corrected." Its hard to see how the team could have done any better than they have under DA. The idea of Charlie Frye leading the Browns was a beautiful concept. It just didn't work out. I'm still a little sour on the team for how it all went down.
  8. Probably Michael Reghi. I don't care for the guy. Is there a sports cliche this guy has not used?
  9. Its a throwaway line by the PD MAC beat writer intended to be funny. That's all it is. There's no great significance to it. Things would not have progressed this far without rock solid plans, including (probably especially) funding, in place. The stadium will be built.
  10. The stadium is a done deal. I'm not talking from inside knowledge, its just that its common sense that the project is too far along to back off on it now. That last sentence must be an attempt at humour, but I'm not sure what the point is. That the proposed merger will move the football team to Cleveland? I guess that's the "joke."
  11. this merger idea is interesting but i'm guessing there is about a 90% probability that nothing will come of it.
  12. on fourth down at the end of the game, edelman tried to run it in from about the 10 for the tying score but was stopped at the one. what a shame.
  13. regarding george thomas, about a month ago i sent him an email about a column he wrote - unrelated to ua - taking issue with something he said. (i rarely do this. this was the second email i have ever sent to a newpaper columnist, the first one was a few years ago and it was a compliment.) i know most of the emails these guys get are probably from people complaining about something and that must get old, so i tried to make my email polite while still making my point. the next day i get a response from george thomas that started out, "don't tell me how to write my column." the guy was just rude. i couldn't believe he would repsond to a reader like he did. i figure maybe i just caught him on a bad day so, i let it drop. but since then every time i see his smiling face in his picture in the abj, i can't help but think to myself, what a jerk.i actually did enjoy his movie reviews. its too bad he's doing sports.
  14. duplicate numbers are given to players who are not likely to see a lot of game time. those players usually don't travel with the team so its only an issue for home games. as mentioned, players with the same number cannot be on the field at the same time. almost always the numbers are split between an offensive player and a defensive player. i'll give the abj a pass on this one. that's a perfectly understandable mistake.i never really thought about it much until i started reading what people said on this site, but they really do play up osu like they're the home team while akron and fkent get page 4 treatment. its ridiculous.
  15. i'm not a better, but i do know that one of best bets in football is the home dog in a rivalry game.
  16. nice game by anderson. but still too early to judge him. we'll know more after next week. apparently, one thing that trading charley did was clear the air. at least now everybody knows the situation: anderson to start until quinn is ready, with dorsey to mentor. when charley was still in the picture, no one really knew what the heck was going on.lost in all the good feelings from today's win is the fact that the defense stunk the place up - again.
  17. i wonder if we'll see jacq in the second half.
  18. sgm, i think some of the "conspiracy" postings are intended as tongue-in-cheek and not to be taken seriously.my gripe with the browns is not what they did to charlie, but HOW they did it. if they decided that he's not the guy, so be it. but to name him as starter and then pull the rug out from under him was really bad.
  19. i like him.
  20. i have not seen the hit but apparenty everett hit hixon helmet first. it sounds like there was nothing hixon could have done to have avoided this. its still got to be weighing on his mind terribly but its not like a jack tatum/darryl stingley situation where tatum hit stingley.
  21. they'd look like fools cutting charlie or anderson after one game. what would they do next, pick-up dorsey again? it would be like musical chairs at quarterback. they've got to pick one guy and go with him. what romeo did with charlie was a joke. he names him the starter and then pulls him after one quarter in the first game. what a way to screw with your quarterback's confidence. and anderson can't be feeling much better about his situation after he saw what happened to charlie. plus, the entire team has to be watching this thinking, wtf is going on? its week two of the season and no one has any idea who is the starting quarterback.
  22. where did this news come from? its not on the pd or abj websites. nothing on espn or cbs sportsline.
  23. its too simple to blame charlie or anderson for what is happened today, although neither one looked like a capable nfl starter. the entire team effort was bad, and the head coach has to take the blame for that. unfortunately, romeo looks like he's in over his head as a head coach. bill cowher in 2008?
  24. charlie was pulled after a terrible 1st quarter. anderson came in and has not done much better.
