Let's fight about something other than the fight

OK OK...I know that we all agree that Can't State's Haminn Quaintance was classless, and we've all marked down Sunday, March 9 on our calendar's for the rematch.I was looking over the stats, and came to this conclusion. Had our backcourt played better, had we held on to the ball better and played B McKnight more, the situation with Haminn would NOT have been an issue because we would have wonLook at this wayBackcourt Shooting - McNees, Middleton and Roberts combined for 3-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. Let's just say that they make two more threes, that's a tie ball game.Turnovers - Akron had a season-high 23 turnovers. Let's just say if they have 10 less turnovers, which would put them at 13 (right around their average for the seaason) and scored on half of those possessions, that's Akron +4. (Their previous high in the turnover department was 15, and heck, the most that a UA opponent had was 23 themselves, Wyoming).Brett McKnight - True freshman plays 5 minutes and scores 10 points (that's 2 points a minutes for you Can't guys). Let's say that he plays 10 minutes, that would be 20 points, and Akron +4.Yeah we can sit and bash Can't State all that we want, but let's look in the mirror and be honest and look at the stats and the playing time of Mr. Offense, Brett McKnight, and WE WIN!!! -

Had this not been Akron-Can't and a sell out, I would be totally disappointed in TWC's production of this game. I find it hard to complain b/c I was just excited to see the game at all. That being said, and understanding that this was on via the Can't State Sports Network, the quality was terrible. The audio for the biases announer was soo low during the first half, that even with my audio at full blast, it was a struggle to hear it. They must have turned it up at halftime, because it was little bit better, but I still had the audio at full blast. Not sure if the same production co is used b/c it seems to me that when Akron's games are televised are a much better quality. The one camera was blurry and the picture shook more than half the time when they were using that one camera. -
Hard to tell exactly what happened at the end. I do know this. McNees fouled Quantence (or whatever the heck his name is) across the arms, and Quantence threw his arms up as if to say "get off me." It then went down into the corner and it was hard to see after that b/c of the fans standing up. It looked like Quade came in and either threw an elbow or pushed someone, which is why he got tee'd up. TWC had two views, from the half court cam, which was hard to see, and then one from the floor, but that was pretty inconclusive, too.Basically, in a nutshell, Quantance started it by arms his hands, and the Quade, in my opinion (and I am an Akron fan) took it to another level and was lucky that he wasn't thrown out, and thus, would have had to miss the C Mich game on Saturday.According to Can't's website, each team had one technical foul.

I have seen on here more than a couple of times that UA fans refer to Miami as "The Sweaters"Looking for the reason(s) why...

Kirk Herbstreit called it the 2nd toughest place to play, next to Cameron.

OK...Here is something to chew on this morning...I know that we beat the heck out of KD for his scheduling his OOC. Let's play scheduler for a bit, and I ask everyone to be honest and not to bash Can't State b/c their Can't State.Would you rather play an occasional team, like a Dayton or Winthrop or Nevada that may or may not be ranked like 15-25 (Seriously, when KD scheduled this game, who would have thought that UD would be ranked in the top 25).....OR Would you rather play at least one elite team, at their place for a big money paycheck, like Can't at Duke last year, and Can't at UNC this year, and risk losing by 20-30 points, but gaining experience of playing in a hostile enviroment, like Cameron, playing on ESPN (not ESPNU or ESPN 2, but the numero uno), which both have to be big points to hit during recruiting.

He was trying to hit the rim, and obviously missed. No he wasn't, he rifled a line drive right at the backboard. He hardly ever misses a FT, you mean he couldn't arc it up there just off center and hit the rim? I think he didn't know any better, which is on the coach. With the new rule about only have 2 offense players on the lane on a FT, I would think that it would be better for something moving fast, creating a chance for the ball to skip out past the FT line than something soft, making it a 4 on 2 chance for the rebound

A Couple of Things1 - Where was J Wood in the OT periods? As a senior, he cant be hiding.2 - Terrible play calling down the stretch, although I do like going for the win3 - I am very interested to hear what the explanation was about the foul on Dials at the end?
-
OMG god did Akron did hosed!!!!!!!How was that not a shooting foul?!?!?! Dials was clearing shooting!?!?!
-
Is it me or does J Wood want nothing to do w/ the ball?
-
UNC starting to pull away from Can't....58-40 14:33
-
Dials fouled on a 3 pointer. 3rd time that UD has done that. Dont they know that you dont foul on a 3 pt attempt?
-
If the last 30 seconds werent chaos, I dont know what is.Lucky to be heading to double OT
-
I thought that J Wood was there in time...The blond bombers keeping us this one
-
Halftime: UNC 44, Can't 32

These guys are a riot during the time outs

One thing that will be interesting to keep an eye on will be Ced Middleton. Even though UA made only 1 FG in the last like 8 minutes of the game, he was fall guy for missing the FT at the end that set up Peno's Prayer. Will he try to step up and take over the game as a comeback? If so, does he come through or struggle? Here is the game story from the Canton Rep, which was an AP story by Tom Withers, on the MAC championship game.http://www.cantonrep.com/archive/index.php...amp;Category=17

My wife and I gave serious consideration for heading down there, but the timing with it being the first full work day of the New Year, there was no way that I could get out of work without taking a vacation day. If it was a Saturday, we would be down there in a heartbeat.
-
So that's what happened!!!Nice read. Maybe Ced should follow Zippy to Channel 3 tomorrow. I know it's not as glamorous as ESPN, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere. Now wait a minute, this was in PD on 13th and today Beacon has the exact same article.... what up with that? And that surprises you that BJ does an article after another paper? They do that all the time with news that happens in Canton, running a story the day after the Rep runs it.Although in Gaffney's defense, I think it was written awhile ago because it talked about his stats going into the Austin Peay game, which was Dec 15, when it was originally posted on ohio.com yesterday afternoon. Looks like they just didnt run until it was slow, and then edited his stats for the Ill-Chicago game.

Thank you very much! That was going to be my next question though, who is your Athletic Director and where does he sit at the games; so I can go ask him why we have this matchup in mens and womens basketball, but not in football.AD is Mack RhodesHere is a link, and you can see his picturehttp://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...p;ATCLID=312131He is usually standing at the end of the court, on Akron's end. Usually has on a suit w/ no tie (like mock turtleneck type shirt)

My thoughts:A&T was a physical team, which should be nice tune up for the Dayton game and then MAC playThe 2 newbies - B McKnight and D Roberts were nice additions. Looked like Roberts took a little bit of time to get him feet combortable in the offense, and it might take him a couple of games to get back into the swing of thing. B McKnight comes in and hits a three on his first touch. That's legendary...Almost - Wait for It - Goddardique!Nice following by the A&T faithful. Nice to chat with some of them who live in the NE Ohio area.Seniors stepped it up one of their own was having a down game (C Mid). Thought that J Wood battled hard on the boards against a taller team (7 of their 16 were over 6'7''), and Nick Dails was hitting on all cylinders.A little bit nervous about the YSU Game tomorrow night. Not sure why, but I am.

I will give you that about the senior leadership. They shot 25% last night. 14 of 41, accounted for 9 of the 13 turnovers and went 5 of 11 from the FT line
