If you "pre-order" your tickets through the UA ticket office, you are prob not going to be in the lower level. Season ticket holders have various "levels", based on their donations to the Z-Fund, and with that, comes preferred seating for the MAC tourney. I got tickets through the UA for the Can't game last year, and I was in the middle section (C-Section, maybe) about baseline extended. They were pretty decent seats, but at least I was guaranteed to be the Zips area.

If MAC Tourney started today, as of 3/3
Marty McFly replied to Marty McFly's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
That is correct. If Ohio and Akron end up tied, Ohio holds tiebreaker via them splitting with Can't.Basically - Akron controls their own destiny. One win and they are the 3rd seed at worse. -

Reason being, if Akron loses tiebreaker to both Can't and Western, as Akron lost to Western, but Can't beat Western.
-
While that is true, Can't would still hold the tiebreaker over Akron, which would be their win over Western, giving them the #1 seed, and Akron still sitting at #3. In order for Akron to move to the #1 seed, Can't would need to lose to Miami and Akron, while Akron runs the table and wins tonight, at Ohio and Can't.Let me correct myself, if this WOULD happen, Akron would move to the #2 seed, assuming Western wins out, meaning Can't would have the #3 seed...Makes you think, would you rather be co-champs have Can't in the semifinals, or a 2nd place finish in the East, and have the possibility of an Akron-Can't final?
-
FYI -- According to Bill Needle, the Can't-Miami game will be on ESPN 2 Tuesday night

It's shame that Ben Mauk from Cincinnati wasn't granted another year of eligibility. Watched him in high school down at Paul Brown w/ Kenston and would have loved to see him play in person again.

Well gee, now I can't figure out why they don't sell the place out every night!touché I highly doubt that the University is losing money by ComDoc handing out tickets. I would bet that ComDoc is sponsoring the game tomorrow night, which goes like this:The UA Marketing Department gets a business to sponsor their games, at a cost, and in exchange, they get tickets. The exchange is that the business is basically buying a block of tickets for their empolyees and families in exchange for some advertising or mentions by the PA announcer.

In my opinion, you are correct. I think that you should always root for other teams in your conference when a win by them could do good for your conference rep (unless it was Miami in the tourney last year). Plus, a Can't win over St Mary's, and then the Flushes lose in the MAC Champ, one would have to wonder if they could get an at large berth?
-
I just looked on gozips.com and can confirm that you are correct. Only 3 lossed04-05 Can't 57-5405-06 No home losses06-07 Nevada 73-7107-08 N Illinois 88-78Which means this, we were 15 points away from not losing a game at the JAR in 4 years (and one hot shooting night from NIU)

DESTINYSomething that I figured out while eating lunch today.Akron and Ohio both control their own destiny. If Akron goes 3-0, or 2-1 AND beats Ohio, Akron would be 3rd seed p/ tiebreaking proceedures (Akron beating OH head to head 2 times)BUT --Ohio controls their own destiny. If they win their last 3 MAC games, they would be the #3 seed over AkronHere's how...As of right now, Akron holds a 1 game lead over Ohio.Remaining MAC ScheduleAkron (9-4)3/1 Buffalo3/4 @ Ohio3/9 Can'tOhio (8-5)3/1 @ Miami3/4 Akron3/9 BuffaloAccording to tiebreaking proceedures - If the two teams tie at 11-5, the tiebreaker would be head to head, and it would be a split. 2nd one would be record vs. #1 team (Can't), which Ohio split with. 3rd one would be record vs. #2 (West Mich) and Ohio beat them 57-54.Basically, I may be the first person to say this, but GO MIAMI!!! A Redhawk win over Ohio would give Akron a litte bit more wiggle room. (Although if OU goes 2-1, and Akron loses to them and Can't- well...we're the 4th seed)This also means that if Ohio goes 3-0, the Akron-Can't game on 3/9 would mean nothing as far as seeding goes, as Ohio would have already wrapped up the #3 seed. Their game against Buffalo is a 2 pm game, while Akron-Can't is 6 pm

According to mac-sports and both schools websites, this game has been cancelled. This could be huge for the Zips as WMU would have a 1/2 game lead over Akron, giving them the #2 seed.In looking over schedules, it doesn't look like there is any time for either school to make up this game (or NIU's game tonight against Toledo, which has been cancelled, too).Anyone heard anything?

VCU at AKRON - Saturday 11AM at the JAR!

Who's up for Keggs and Eggs and where? -
Forget the post. The whole thread is worth reading...especially page two.All I got to say is what a bunch of weirdo's!!!! And another reason to hate Miami. What is with their arena...err "Hall". Looked like the crowd was 2 miles away from the floor!

Speaking of noticing things...Anyone notice how terrible these announcers with Akron factoids? Some highlights (and these are quoting these guys)* McKnight scoring his first FG of the season in the first half? huh...* Dials coming around a pick and nailing a 3 "A wing and a prayer" Yeah - That's something that he does daily...* Middleton slamming home a dunk, when it was QuadeI could go on and on, but I want to watch this game....maybe with mute on for the last 8 minutes.Looking like Ced is maybe coming back to his ole self?!?!

Thanks for the heads up on the game being on TV

Wood to Return Saturday for Bracketbuster
Marty McFly replied to FearTheRoo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
In my opinion, let him travel to Miami (he wasn't at the BG game, unless he was in the stands), but not dress. Let him dress for the VCU game, go through warmups, etc, but not play. Then they have all next week off. Play him a little bit for the Buffalo on 3/1, with the intentions for having him back for the OU and Can't game and the tourney. -
And that 1 min that Conyers played with around 5-6 min mark left in the game, which I thought was just give the backcourt a breather before the 4:00 min media TO.Brett played terrible. I believe that most of his shots were within 10 ft or so, and they were not even close. I have backed B McKnight for playing more minutes, but KD was justified in sitting him on Sat. Gotta earn the minutes, and set up when you get your chance, and for the first time this year, he didn't set up.

I see what you are saying and agree with you that going to Oxford on Tues and then OU next week are going to be tough games. I think that if we can get the third seed, that would be a momentum burst heading into the Can't game on 3/9 with J Wood coming back sometime around there, too.I also just wanted some to verify that I was looking at the seeding correctly.
-
Correct me if I am wrong, but as of right now, aren't the Zips sitting at the #3 seed behind #1 - Can't State (10-2); #2 - Western Michigan (8-3); #3 - Akron (8-4); #4 - Ohio (7-5); #5 - Miami (6-5); # 6- Eastern Michigan (6-6, own tiebreaker over BGSU); #7 - BG (6-6) #8 - Cent Michigan (5-7); #9 - Toledo (5-6); #10 (tied at 3-8, will play each other 3/4) - Northern Illinois and Ball State; #12 - Buffalo (2-9).If I am correct, this would mean that Akron would play the winner of Eastern Michigan and Northern Ill/Ball State (since they are technically tied for #10 and #11 as of right now)Winner of Akron game would play winner of West Michigan/BG/Northern Ill/Ball State in the semifinalsCan't State would play winner of Cent Mich/Toledo in the quarterfinals, and then winner of that game would play winner between Ohio/Miami/Buffalo in the other semifinal.

I agree with you on both fronts. Can someone tell me why Brett McKnight scores 2 or 3 baskets...in a row...around the 13-14 min mark, sits down with 12:30 to go (which I thought was to give him an extended break with the media TO) and doesn't return?!?!?!McNees is not a PG. Seemed to me like every time he brought it up the court, as soon as he crossed half court, he was retreating back to the half court line, forcing another Zips player to come and get it.Another thing...KD just seemed lost trying to find a combo tonight that worked, and missing J Wood was really evident, and part of the reason that NIU shot flippin' 65 % from the field.
