G5 Considering Their Own Playoffs?Blue & Gold replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Preseason rankings arbitrarily stack the deck in favor of Keener's Top 20 (and, to a somewhat lesser extent, the rest of the P5) before the season begins. The preseason rankings have a ripple effect for season-long strength of schedule arguments.

Their coach also mentions Frankie Hughes. Apparently Frankie was held out of the game d/t the fact he didn't return from Cleveland "in a timely manner." So it's sounds like WadZips is, once again, right on both accounts. Sounds as if Frankie's rather disgruntled. Great, prescient calls, WadZip! Two posts above I posted a tweet by Daniel Utomi acknowledging Willie's transfer, so it appears Willie's got a relationship w/ at least one current Zip player. Keeping my fingers crossed for Willie!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for Frankie!!! I can't tie my shoes!

G5 Considering Their Own Playoffs?Blue & Gold replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Great post, Keener (I'm out of likes). I had been tempted, but too lazy, to comprise a list like that for a few years now. It confirms my suspicion; there are only about 20 schools who have a realistic shot at playing for & winning the NC. Though, for the majority of P5 conference schools playing for the NC is a pipe dream, at least it is within the realm of possibility - no matter how far-fetched. My issue comes from the perspective of ethics: WMU plays D-1 ball and went undefeated. Shouldn't that automatically qualify them for inclusion in a playoff? If not, the system is rubbish and must either be 1) truthfully and simply acknowledged that FCS is more concerned with $$ than fair competition and thus more akin to the WWE than it is to the NFL, or 2) the system must be changed. I don't ever hear this issue being discussed in the media (because, of course, the media is currently $erved by the $ystem a$-i$). WMU hit the proverbial glass ceiling. This is an ethics issue. And a real one at that; this isn't just sports bar talk.

We don't have any schollies for next year, but he'd have to sit out next year d/t transfer rule, right? The following year we should have 4 schollies open up: Noah, Antino, Aaron & Craig. Wonder if he'd be willing to pay his own way to school for a year while he sits out & get a schollie the following season?

Alex Ramart makes 16 verbals for 2017. 17 verbals if you count FL LB Morris Lugo. 18 if you count McKinley DE Joe Corner. Still plenty of room for a couple DT's & Bubba Arslanian.

Good looking highlights (I suppose that's inherent in the very definition of "highlights." Lol)

G5 Considering Their Own Playoffs?Blue & Gold replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Something, though, has to be done. Even if no one on earth realistically believes WMU is one of the top 4 teams in the country, the fact that they are a D-1 school & went undefeated means they should make the playoff & have a chance at the national championship. Again, I know WMU's not a Top 4 team, but that's irrelevant. An undefeated D-I school should be in, no matter what conference they belong to. Otherwise, why call them D-I?

Miwee posted this to twitter last night. Couldn't find anything else on twitter about who it might be. Another QB obviously.

In 2010 we slept on Larry Nance Jr. (and Darius Carter ) and offered Cleveland-area products Tree & Nick Harney. Tree turned out to be one of my all-time favorite Zips, but whiffing on both Nance Jr. & Carter still makes me break out in a cold sweat. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Let's not make the same mistake twice. Sound good? Great! Then I'm starting a thread for 2018 SF/PF Pete Nance. We can't let Pete climb the fence & get out of our backyard. If Pete is anything like his brother, he'd be proud to wear Akron on his chest, as Larry Jr. used to post pics to twitter of him wearing Zips gear even while he played for Wyoming. It's amazing to me how articulate Pete is. He interviews like he's a 35-year old man! Obviously highly intelligent. Lends credibility to the fact people say he's got the proverbial "high basketball I.Q."

I was blessed to be able to see Jemarulin Suggs, Marquise Bridges and Todd Sibley all play a couple times this year, but IMO this guy has the potential to be better than all of them.
