Try living in NEO right now. The Cleveland media won't shut up. With the exception of Brad Sellers these guys are driving me insane. P.S. Some guy at a bar in Lakewood was holding a sign that read "Take Akron with you". Actually, I like that sign. A LOT! Clevelanders can say screw Akron and we can say screw Cleveland. We need to quit acting like Cleveland's little brother and only finding our identity in what our big brother up the street is doing. Screw that and screw Cleveland. The Cavs are gonna SUCK and I'm not gonna care because I'm from Akron. Akron should now be South Beach North. Our hometown boy's loyal to us and we're gonna be loyal to him. Cleveland can burn. Win some championships in South Beach LBJ & bring home some more MVP's.
-
People are so stupid. From the article: "The fans also are free to wonder what happened to the guy who accepted his first MVP award at his old St. Vincent-St. Mary gym, the next at the University of Akron -- and both times, talking so warmly and sincerely about being at home." Umm, hey douche-bag, he is at home @ St. V & @ UA & anywhere in Akron. What's that have to do with Cleveland at all? Answer: it doesn't. Our Akron boy is free to play professionally where ever he wants. Especially considering Akron doesn't have an NBA franchise. Rot in hell, Cleveland. Be gone to the cellar, Cavs. Our Akron boy's gonna be playing for championships in South Beach! And living in Akron.

Good to have you, Greggymann! Welcome to the 'Nation.

One of the more exciting players we've seen in blue & gold over the last 10 years.
-
Amen, Zen, and spot on! I've got no closet jealousy toward The King. I'm loving every nano-second of NATIONAL sports media saying "AKRON, AKRON, AKRON!" You go, LBJ! Don't let the little jealous serfs get you down. Now Cleveland, on the other hand? Well they can go burn in h#ll every time they say that LeBron is their "hometown" player. Screw you Cleveland, LeBron's from Akron. I hope LBJ joins D-Wade & C-Bosh in Miami while Cleveland averages about 3,000-per-game next year as they win maybe 5 games, & LeBron continues to give his now customary props to his hometown of Akron as he wins an NBA championship and another league MVP, while afterwards we hold a championship party for LeBron in Akron - where LeBron will always continue to live in the off-season. Everyone repeat after me, "I am not from Cleveland. I am from Akron. Go smolder in h#ll, Cleveland." I thought this was an Akron board.
-
I hope he plays professionally anywhere other than Cleveland. He doesn't play for the "hometown" team as it is - he doesn't play for the Akron Cavaliers. I'm from Akron. So is LeBron. Screw Cleveland. It's real simple people. In spite of how the Cleveland media has brainwashed you, Akron is not Cleveland and Cleveland is not Akron. Burn in hell, Cleveland.

Is anyone going to watch the LeBron On Larry King Live?
Blue & Gold replied to lance99's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
That's hilarious! Chris has to keep his women in check! -
The entire idea is fundamentally flawed. It's real simple in LeBron's mind - he is not from Cleveland; he is from Akron. Amen, LeBron. LBJ has repeated and repeated and repeated, ad nauseam, his loyalty to the city of Akron. LBJ has NEVER ONCE expressed loyalty to Cleveland. He knows where he's from. He wasn't drafted by his "hometown team," i.e., he wasn't drafted by the Akron Cavaliers; he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has no more loyalty to Cleveland than he does to any other city with an NBA franchise. Lord have mercy, why can't even the Beacon Journal figure that simple equation out? Go win championships, LeBron. Keep bringing MVP trophies home to Akron.

Source? Scout forums. It would be advantageous to ZN readers if you would type...."Scout forums (include link here) suggests that (players name here) might be transferring to Akron" Scout forums (link included here) suggests that (Oren Wilson) might be transferring to Akron. He was in trouble with the law? What did he do? The above link suggests his teammates were upset w/ him?
-
What bugs me most is that the effort is misguided. Thank God LeBron is NOT like most Akronites in thinking he's from Cleveland. LeBron knows he's from Akron. Not Cleveland. I wish other Akronites understood as much. LeBron hasn't ever pledged to not leave Cleveland; he has continually pledged his loyalty to Akron. I don't care where he plays professionally. Neither should Akron. Let's hope LeBron moves to a place where he can win multiple championships and grow the LBJ legend/brand. That's what would be best for Akron. So LeBron may leave Cleveland. So what? Good for him. But he'll never leave home, i.e., Akron. In short: Akron is not Cleveland and Cleveland is not Akron. Go LeBron! Go Akron! Go Zips!

ZN.O Virus?
Blue & Gold replied to meatwad's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
I just experienced the problem too. It lasted for about an hour(ish?). My security blocked ZNO & said it was trying to "attack" my computer. I'm not a computer guy, so I have no idea what that really means. All I know is that I was able to logon this time. -
Good post, ZippyTuba11. Does anyone else think the ACC may once again threaten the Big East if they would go ahead and expand to 16 teams by adding UConn, Syracuse, Rutgers & West Virginia? I think that's a real possibility. The schools are geographic fits and would enable the ACC to own the coveted NY/New England media markets. New ACC: ACC North: 1. Boston College 2. UConn 3. Syracuse 4. Rutgers 5. West Virginia 6. Virginia 7. Virginia Tech 8. Maryland ACC South: 1. North Carolina 2. NC State 3. Wake Forest 4. Duke 5. Clemson 6. Georgia Tech 7. Florida State 8. Miami

Ennis getting some love
Blue & Gold replied to zippyman23's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Very nice! He really fills an area of need. Have we had a PG who could throw down since Jimmal Ball? I'm not sure we have, but even the fact that I have to sit here and think this hard about it is pretty pathetic! Good to see an explosive ball handler coming to the Zips! I loved Humpty. Like I said in a previous post, he was my favorite player on the team. His quickness and ball handling reminded me of Jimmal Ball. But Humpty wasn't nearly as explosive. I don't know how many times last year Humpty got blocked on a breakaway layup, where Jimmal would have thrown it down. I can't wait to see Dylan cross over & drive, drain a three, or dunk on the breakaway. Now... all we need is a 2G who can dunk!!! (Once again... pathetic! ) Lol. -
Yes, good work with the placement of your commas. They belong inside the quotation marks, not outside. Common error. So, good show, Zippysgotagun! Or should it read, "Zippy'sgotagun?" Lol. And, ZNO, notice the placement of the question mark.
-
Obviously I've missed something? Links?
-
Well man, what lousy news. Humpty's my personal favorite player on the team. During the season I kept griping about KD not pushing tempo & running the floor more, so now I'm kinda pissed off again. Oh well, good luck Humpty, you'll always be a Zip to us & part of our family. We love you and only wish you the very best. You and your family will continue to be in our prayers. Go Zips.
-
Along these lines, it would be: Correct - "The Zips scored a touchdown." But how about this one, English majors... "The Zips' new fieldhouse." You put the possessive apostrophe after "Zips," correct?
-
Thanks, UAFan! But I think your title should read, "Writing Guide: It's Never Too Late To Learn" Lol Just joshin' w/ you bud. I honestly appreciate the alumni-alumnus-alumna info. I often incorrectly use "alumni."

The 2011 Recruits Thread
Blue & Gold replied to Quickzips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Henry has verballed to VCU according to sources. Well that sucks. Just behind Remy Abell, Pierri-a Henry was the player I was most excited about possibly landing. Growing up in the Michael Jordan era, I love tall, athletic shooting guards - something we've not had in a very long time. VCU's really got something going on down there. -
I agree. Gilliam's got great size & in reading his bio, looks like he'd be a very good pick up. Gilliam's UMBC Bio Zach's initial post stated that Gilliam took an official visit to Akron. Players enrolled in one college can take "official" visits to other colleges? That strikes me as odd.
-
Wow, how do you find this stuff, Zach? Anyway, if I remember correctly, the Zips were very high on Bryant in high school. He played @ the same prep school as Nik. In fact, I believe the Zips staff stumbled upon Nik while scouting one of Bryant's games. They offered him coming out of high school.

Honestly. It would have been nice to see Coach Brown dress up for this. I suppose the sloppiness of the others is excusable as they didn't know LeBron was going to ask them to come up on to the stage with him. But Coach Brown knew he'd be on stage w/ the other well dressed gentlemen & looks like a bum. Oh, well. Unfortunate faux pas. Coach Brown seems like a really friendly, humble guy.

LeBron to Have MVP Press Conference at the JAR
Blue & Gold replied to Akron1's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
This is probably the dumbest thread I've ever seen on ZipsNation. To have the hometown, 2-time NBA MVP hold his press conference on our campus is absolutely great. There is no other side to this. As far as being "humble?" WTF? Is LeBron aware that he's the best player to ever lace up Nikes? Hell yes. And not only is he from Akron, but held the presser in the JAR?! Lord have mercy on us all. -
