this is another things their wrong about........ Nathan Schuler is not from springfield in akron. he uis from the springfield down in south ohio. i seen springfield play and they didnt have any kids on their team good enough to play division 3 in college, let alone D1Ha! Yeah, poor Akron Springfield. Athletically, they haven't had anything going in years. Except when current Zips' assistant coach (?) Ryan Andrick got some quality wins in b-ball 2 years ago! I love seeing him coaching our big men now! Anyway, what were we talking about... oh, yeah... football recruiting!

Morgan Williams is doing really good. He did very well fall semester and if he does the same 2nd semester he will be academically eligible to play next fall. If he continues well on the academic side, he is going to be a beast on the field. He's an excellent RB. I was really disappointed we didn't get him signed! But I'm just as glad that he's doing well in school.

I know I've been a little disappointed and a bit perplexed with Chris McKnight's lack of production so far this year. He was a D-1 First Team All-Ohio honoree as a high school senior, so I was really expecting him to fill Romeo's big shoes nicely. But he just doesn't seem to have much confidence out there. More than once I've wanted to yell out, "Stand up tall and take it up strong!" He still seems a bit overwhelmed. So I was wondering if the Rowdies wouldn't want to put a cheer together for Chris? Chant it out whenever he's on the floor; let him know we love him and that we've got his back no matter what. He doesn't have to play well to earn our love and support. He's a Zip; he's one of us, so we just want him to relax, hustle, have fun and, hopefully, play well! It may help take some of the pressure off of him to help him get loose and just start to enjoy the game of basketball again. just a thought.P.s. I love your new Darrrrrrryl chant! (Now there's a freshman w/ icewater flowing through his veins!)

Valid points. Retail is essentially non-existant in downtown. As for the museum, I think it's great. The Wife and I went there for the Normal Rockwell exhibition. Great, great facility!I brought 3 friends to the OU game. We went out to eat before the tip-off. First we went to Luigi's; there was a line out the door! So we went & parked in the new parking deck next to the Akron Art Museum. We walked by the A-Art Museum on our way to the Big City Chop House - it was quite crowded too! Firstly, I was proud to walk my friends by our new, RADICAL, avante guarde Art Museum! It was all glass, stainless steal & glowing purple! They were gawking! Secondly, we had AMAZING ($$$) steaks at the way-Soho-cool Big City Chophouse! I HIGHLY recommend it - if you've got some dimes to drop! Thirdly, we got to experience an amazingly INTENSE elite-mid-major basketball game at the deafeningly pumped-up JAR! And the Zips won on a tip-in! Man, what a great night on the town! We are gettin' it on!

The above link to Rivals lists Tiondre Johnson as a 3-star forward. The article, originally published during his sophomore season, lists Tiondre at 6-4. Well today I read in the ABJ that Tiondre is now 6-7!He's got to be on our short list of recruits for next season.

I think Scout posted something wrong. Ty visited Toledo over the weekend and committed to the Rockets then. It was also in the Tampa Tribune yesterday. My guess is that Scout accidentily listed him as an Akron commit instead of Toledo commit when they updated their database this morning.I believe your correct Rocketfootball. Scouts now lists Ty as having verballed to UT. Nice size & speed! Do you have any inside info on how Morgan Williams is progressing academically?

Wow! That was so intense it was literally almost scary! That clip really captured how emotional the crowd was! I loved seeing Linhart getting mobbed by his teammates after the final horn!

J-Wood! Without Wood we get rolled every game! Except Walsh. But McNees has been a revelation! He's the best PG on the squad; Dials and Ced being more suited to the 2-Guard spot.

Humpty Hitchins Update
Blue & Gold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Ha! Hilarious! GoZips, there was an old (late 80's?) rap group named Digital Underground that had their one hit single called The Humpty Hump where the MC said something about, "the image and the style that we're used to."Do the humpty, do the humpty hump, watch me do the humpty hump...White people...Samoans... -
You say, "the Union has been mayhem this week." So the general student populace is finally beginning to get excited over Zips b-ball?

Humpty Hitchins Update
Blue & Gold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Just reading between the lines in a couple articles you guys have posted, it sounds as if the Chambers kid may be a bit mentally fragile. It sounds as if he's been blessed with 6-7 height but still doesn't have a lot of confidence? Of course, he's a senior in high school and still has a lot of developing to do. Could he be a project player? -
A "pep-rally" that no one knows about and thus, has no one in attendance is embarassing and would probably do more harm than good, no?
-
Yup, one thing I've really noticed about the VAST majority of Zips' fans (and appreciate) is that if a player is hustling, we love them and support them 100%! It doesn't matter if a player has a bad game, or a bad season, or isn't as talented or naturally gifted as we'd hope. As long as they're hustling, we absolutely LOVE them and are the biggest homers on planet earth! We honestly care about our players as people, and don't just care about wins-and-losses or on-court production. That should take a lot of pressure off you guys; just go out, play hard, have fun and, win or lose, we love ya!Go Zips!

It is interesting you mention the Mayflower. I've been thinking the same for a few years now! I was hoping that w/ the new Akron Art Museum and northside downtown development, Quaker Square would revitalize itself to it's former glory. I know that was likely hoping against hope, but it still causes me to have some mixed feelings about the U moving in there. But the Mayflower?! It would be a 100% positive move for the city if the U would buy that property. I hope this does not sound mean, but I'm going to say it anyway: let's just say that the current residents of the Mayflower are, uh... different, and frankly, they repel the very type of person that downtown is trying to attract - young, yupi professionals with expendable income. Also, you're absolutely right about cities being desperate for downtown residents. UA's current evolution from commuter school to residential school can help downtown immensely!

Here's more good news concerning downtown redevelopment from today's ABJ! http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/13790147.htmlWhat's good for downtown is good for the U. What's good for the U is good for downtown. With the possible exception of the Quaker Square situation (which I have mixed feelings about) downtown and UA is a great symbiotic relationship. Downtown is truly becoming an attractive place (for anyone, especially potential UA students!) to relax and party!

Leon and Wood should be fun to watch (and hey, it's on TV!).I agree! Wood v. Leon is going to be epic! The two best big men in the MAC.

Is anyone else attempting to watch this game w/ RealPlayer from UB's website? I'm getting a message that the link is not active. Is anyone else having trouble, or does anyone have any troubleshooting advice? Thanks!

The south side of Exchange Street is an embarassment. Are there plans in the works to renovate that strip? How about that apartment/condo complex that we've been hearing about for, what, two years now? Is that ever going to get off the ground? And if so, where exactly is it to be located? Across the street from the new stadium, or farther west?
-
McClanahan, that's it! And Andrew Parish?

GoZips,Thanks for the updates concerning Nik, Alex & Humpty! I was wondering how they were faring. Any word on our 4th recruit from Nitro, West Virginia (I can't think of his name right now)?

That dude's got mammoth calves. -
Absolutely! Proenza truly understands the importance of a strong athletic program (football & men's b-ball) for the identiy and morale of a university and, consequently, the surrounding community. I can only wish the ABJ understood so well. Successful football & men's b-ball programs are the most effective marketing strategies almost any U can be associated with. With the exceptions of Ivy League schools and perhaps Stanford, a university's football and men's basketball teams are what give a university either positive or negative national-level name recognition. I believe Proenza firmly believes that every dollar spent on athletics is simultaneously a dollar spent on advertising/marketing.
-
Gotta like that! You know that every team he faces is 100% focussed on shutting him down.
-
Thanks for that link! I haven't heard a lot about Miller, but seeing that video definitely gives me hope! He's throwing ropes on the money. I'd still like to see us make a push on Dominik Britt too, though. You can never have enough good QBs. As everyone is well aware, this year we didn't have a single one!
