  1. Yeah, I know. With both Tavari & Sharron (and Shammah more than capable of running the point) Idk how he'd work Tai into the rotation to make it worth burning his redshirt.
  2. I think Josh Henderson will be a superstar. 6'5" and can stroke it from 5 feet behind the line. Tai Perkins is tough & won D2 POY in the Central Ohio Region, but his team was so deep it was kinda hard for me to gauge how good he really is. But to win POY... he's gotta be legit. I wouldn't expect either to play next year b/c of our returning depth, but @Illini Zip made a good point that Groce doesn't redshirt PG's (Tai Perkins) and after Illini Zip pointed that out I think he's right; I don't remember Groce redshirting a PG.
  3. Tai Perkins' Westerville North team beat Perry 78-46 in the D-2 state championship game Friday night. Tai had 12 first half points & finished w/ 19. Westerville North lost 2 of their 1st 3 games but then went undefeated the rest of the season mostly blowing teams out. I think they're probably the best team in the state regardless of division.
  4. I still want to see us ranked in the Top 25 & for a school like Akron that basically requires being undefeated in the early OOC schedule including beating a P-6 (or two) school.
  5. I really enjoyed the Alabama St. game this year (SWAC) but I agree we need to scale back on the D-2 & lower schools. One per year. 1st game of the year. Home opener. Drill Walsh or Malone or Heidelberg or someone. But THAT'S IT. ONE PER YEAR.
  6. I saw Mahaffey play in high school & he's legit. 6'5" & athletic. But there's no way that as a true freshman he was grading out higher in practice than anyone on the team, is there? Speaking of Mahaffey, I was going to mention that we're going to have two tall, athletic guards next year in Mahaffey and Josh Henderson (though Josh will only be true freshman). Both athletic 6'5" guards. Josh can shoot the lights out. With one more off season of work I think Amani will be a great Stretch 4 next year. Perhaps 1st Team All-MAC good.
  7. As a wise man said ( @csims0917 😉) "We're in limbo." I wish our Big East soccer buddies would throw Men's Basketball a bone or two with scheduling.
  8. The players who made their intentions known during locker room interviews at Climate Pledge Arena are redshirt junior guard Nate Johnson, junior guard Tavari Johnson, senior guard Shammah Scott, senior forward James Okonkwo and junior forward Amani Lyles.
  9. So we can add two transfers this off season? 👀👀 Sweet! 🔥
  10. I think that was an old tweet, or he used a picture of himself in an Akron uniform to announce he was signing with an agent, or something like that. But hopefully I’m wrong & he’s a Zip this year.
  11. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/local/2025/03/19/kent-state-will-eliminate-several-majors-cut-administrative-positions/82550339007/?tbref=hp
  12. But we have two high school seniors coming in next year (PG Tai Perkins & W Josh Henderson). So to add the B1G big would require one of the above to transfer out.
  13. He went portaling but I don't believe we've yet seen where he's landed.
  14. I don't believe so. At least no commentary.
  15. That's virtually giving it away. Quaker is gorgeous and has so much potential. 🤞🤞
  16. From MAC Freshman of the Year to flake.
  17. Here is the replay of the game
  18. Everything about the seating areas in the JAR feels rickety. Reduce capacity to make it all chair back. Newer, more solid (even perhaps cushioned?) chair back seats because even the current chair backs feel rickety. Don't mention the rickety GA bleachers. The older I get the harder the bleachers feel. There aren't even railings to hold on to as you climb the GA bleachers (even rickety railings would be better than no railings at all). I generally try to take guys to the games & I've had at least 3 comments this year alone about how they were expecting a nicer facility for D1 basketball (that's putting their verbalized sentiments graciously). 4 of my guys are getting older & aren't as mobile as they used to be. They simply can't navigate the rickety GA bleachers (which are an accident & a lawsuit just waiting to happen when they begin to fill) so always just sit in the front row of GA. Then, of course, they can't usually see the action on the floor due to the infamous railing & people constantly walking (or even just standing 😡) on the track. The JAR needs some very real TLC.
  19. Good for him. You're only young once. Go get some PT.
  20. I loved Ryan Andrick. He was a former Manchester Panther 💪 Those were my first favorite Zips teams w/ so much local flavor. Ryan Andrick - Manchester Nate Shindenwolf (sp?) - Manchester Jamie Bosley - Jackson Jimmal Ball - Canton Timken George Phillips from Chicagoland I was not a huge Dan Hipsher fan. I would have never wanted to play for a coach like him. Seemed like the team despised him.
