  1. I think playing UB at home would be more favorable to us. Historically, they play us extremely tough on their home field. The bye week should be a good thing for us to get people back into shape and like Buckzip said, work on the weaknesses. I think it will be a tough game, though. UB is not the push-over they have been in previous years even after a big, in-state "rivalry" game. The CSU/BG spread seems right to me. BG seems to be a bit of an enigma this year. Let them beat each other up and see how many whines and excuses Douggy has next week.
  2. I would agree with your last paragraph, although I don't think I'm ready, as of now, to call for JD's head. HE is the head coach, and as such needs to hire the right people to lead this team. The 3rd and 2 that we didn't make was one BIG coaching mistake. When a couple of half-drunk 40 somethings sitting a few rows below the coaches box can see what the opposing coaches are doing and our coaches in the box can't, something's wrong. We ran right up the gut into a blitz. Why? Because we were trying to run the clock out. Temple knew that and played their defense accordingly. But our coaches obviously were either too stubborn or too smug to change.
  3. It's both the scheme and Jacq. The scheme is way too conservative and Jacq, well, where do I begin? Handoffs look like he and the RB are fighting for the ball. Too slow in developing. It's like Jacq doesn't want to give the RB the ball. His looking at one receiver, and one receiver only, kills him. How many times do you see him force a ball to Jabari when someone else is wide open? Case in point was his first interception. He looked at Jabari the whole way, threw it to him even though there were 2, maybe 3 defenders on him when Piondexter was wide open 15 yards away from Jabari. He just doesn't see the field. This loss should never have happened.
  4. I couldn't see anything on the youtube clip but I'm surprised there wasn't a flag. With MAC officials, they either call one where there isn't or miss a blatant foul. As for Doug Martin, I have absolutely no sympathy for him and his team. It seems all he does in whine when they lose. It's always someone else's fault. I don't really remember any penalty that could have been called against Akron in that game that would have changed the outcome. He's just a poor sport. On a related note, why does Akron always, ALWAYS, get celebration penalties called. They can give a simple high-five and get a penalty called.
  5. And our supposed "hometown" newspaper saw fit to give us 2 short columns on page 3 from the AP while Can't got front page, the rest of page 3 and 3 color pics in a losing effort. As Frenchy said in the post game show, "no one is talking to the media because frankly, there's no Akron media here"
  6. I agree. My biggest complaint so far has been the, shall we say, BORING offense. But I also understand that a majority of the offense is inexperienced and thus the coaches can't load them up with too much. We all should have know this was not going to be a stellar year. I said after the spring game we would end up 1-11. I'm relatively pleased so far.
  7. I'll expose myself to what I am; a Steelers Fan. I hope he ends up in Pittsburgh. Aside from Ward and Holmes, they could use a bit more help at receiver.
  8. Amen! That is entirely correct. Don't expect a big philosophical change on the part of the BJ that they're going to cover the Zips better. This week was an exception to the rule.
  9. I think it's kind of the same situation as last week. Our opponent wasn't as good as THEY thought they were. That's the same feeling I get with UConn. I'll give them Pitt, but their other wins were against nobodies. AKRON - 28UConn - 24
  10. That threat has been out there for years. So far no one has been demoted to 1-AA because of attendance. The limited attendance at Akron games could be contributed to our conference but I think it's more like apathy. People would rather sit at home and watch OSU on television. If you watch any C-USA game, those stadiums are not bursting at the seams with fans. Wait until the stadium is built, we'll get sell-outs or close to it because everyone will all of a sudden become a Zips fan.
  11. At the bowl or tailgate city?
  12. Roo Town. And I hope they got 2 so they can put one at the entrance to the Bowl. That would be great!
  13. Zippy still trails Hokie Bird in the head-to-head. But on a positive note, he still is in 2nd place in the overall standings. We need to keep voting to get Zippy in first overall. I know I'm riding my people at work to vote everyday, more if they know how.
  14. Fairlawn Lizard, and hopefully the red doesn't start showing up until close to the end of the game.
  15. Just heard he was traded to Seattle. He'll be 3rd of the depth chart. At least he's with a better team.
  16. It's been a long time since we've seen a defense that can really shut our opponents down. We seem to have that now for the most part. Now we can't seem to put points on the board. That's something we're not too used to seeing. Taking into account the latter part of last season, and so far this season, the offense has not produced much at all. Granted, we have youth almost everywhere on the offense, and it will take several games for them to really mesh, but we are playing it very, very conservative. We tried one "trick" play on Sat. which didn't work. Then it was screen passes and off guard runs. I'm all for trying a few more trick plays: end arounds, reverses, etc. Heck, even the statue of liberty, which Oregon used very effectively against Michigan. Those type of plays open things up a bit, even if they don't work every time. The defense has to be a little more on their toes. Maybe we don't have those kind of weapons, though.I'd also like to see our QBs throw the ball more than 5-7 yards occasionally.
  17. We have HokieBird next week, a sentimental favorite, and Cocky week 7. Zippy still leads all.All will bow to Zippy!
  18. Typical for the Columbus Beacon Journal
  19. TE SHOULD be a difference maker. As a former tight end, I think our tight ends are as good as any and should be utilized more as receivers. Defenses rarely account for the TE and subsequently they could be threat. But we may need to keep them home to protect the QB. I'm still not convinced about the QB, though.
