  1. Since I am an alumni of the Buchtelite, i can actually comment on this with no fear of losing my job:-)The author of the story is, sadly, WRONG. Granted she may not have known that she couldn't submit a story on something she was directly involved in, but that is a MAJOR conflict of interest. Putting her name on top of the story would seriously jepordize the paper's credibility. It also opens up the door to other "contributors" publicizing their own events by writing "stories" for the paper, which would mainly be nothing but glorified press releases. What does confuse me is how the Bj said that bylines were 'earned' and "prized". I don't remember them being that way, they were kind of a given...As for standing over her shoulder and checking out the story before turning it in, that is darned near impossible. Putting out a paper is very, very time consuming and seriously, it's hard. And no, they didn't plagerize her at all...using the edited by Staff Reports byline assures the reader that the story at least was edited by the paper. It's done many, many times to assure that journalistic integrity is being upheld. The Buchtelite is really trying here people. They have covered probably the MOST On-campus things I have ever seen them cover. (and most of them have been positive) Cut them some slack...
  2. UPDATE: Polsky's 3rd floor (food Court, Docuzip, B+N) is going to knock out some walls, replace it with glass, and add, brace yourselves, Starbucks. It hasn't been said if it's going to be a place that sells starbucks or a smaller version of starbucks. Start date: THIS SUMMER
  3. Robertson is to be completely renovated...the entire look of it will be changing, probably something more akin to Union Market. Mini-zee's will be going to 24 hours, but it will have an area with soft seating, tables, and probably an expanded menu. Polsky food court is also on the list to be renovated, mainly so that the SUmmit Students will get the same types of food available at Rob's/SU. Carroll will be torn down, but there are still departments there that do not have homes yet. There is going to be an apparel store in the 1st floor of Honors, so that people can get personalized apparel. This will be great for the Student Orgs, who currently search for T-shirt Pricing, and Greeks who have to go way off campus for apparel. Parking on South campus will be very limited, as we lost spaces due to construction, and we will lose more when auburn deck closes. But since East deck only operates at 60% capacity, people will just have to get used to walking.
  4. Here is what I have heard about the stadium...keep in mind that much of this is common sense, some is hearsay, some is actual fact.Groundbreaking will probably not be until 2007, AFTER the new exhange street hall opens. The University cannot afford to lose housing, even for a semester or two. Since the new stadium is going where wallaroo/joey/wallaby/brown are, the replacement "beds" must be done before it is torn down. BTW, the new res hall opening has been delayed, mainly because national city bank took so long getting completed. And, as of now, Chipotle is NOT going to be in that spot-but don't say it won't happen yet.In addition, all businesses have not sold yet. Odd Corner will probably be the toughest sell. There has been some "wooing" at the Gardner Theater (student Union) where presentations on the stadium have been occuring over the last few months. The cash goal is really, really, really close. Expect more changes on exchange, including a median, and more restaurants/bars/stores/etc.
  5. My thoughts on the subject...1. The Beacon, once again, DOES seem like they are out to get the University. This is a trend that many people are noticing...2. If anything good comes out of this, SJA will get a complete overhaul. It obviously needs it. 3. Unfortunatley, this is going to hurt the university. How the university recovers depends on what actions are taken.
