  1. Here we go again...
  2. the students i see doing most of the chants are behind the goal
  3. oh, and here's an idea.... how about the "hard-core" roudies spread out a bit, rather than just compressing behind the goal? Go out and make the rest of the fans chant! Its just like Basketball were the small pocket of loud roudies could disperse and really get the audience going. If Baker can get the whole grandstand cheering, just think what 100 crazy roudies spread throughout the stadium could do!
  4. bobby is right on point... its just a matter of practice. Just imagine a couple flutes and the drums playing along with "yankee doodle," or the volume potential with the "oooooohhhhhhh, you suck!"Its just a matter of letting the atmosphere evolve naturally.
  5. yeah, thats the real problem.... put on a coat and grab some starbucks, its not that cold people
  6. I think the atmosphere has been on the decline since the weather started to cool down… at least the band is actually showing up and cheering.
  7. I believe it was first come-first serve, once we filled the seats allotted to us by athletics nobody else could come. I know what you mean though... some of the sounds were pretty pathetic.
  8. Not everybody.Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great HBCU bands out there... but it is a completely different style, and we will NEVER adopt that style here at Akron.2 things about HBCU bands, then Ill drop the subject.1: Keep in mind that they play for a much more homogeneous audience, thus playing music the audience likes is a bit less complicated.2: None of us band members are physically capable of producing the volume and endurance required for a HBCU gameday performance. Those bands draw from a pool of high schools that reinforce that style. From a young age those players are taught to be loud for a long time. And like it or not, those practices are against principles of music education in our region. Now, as far as song selection is concerned.... any suggestions? It is easy to pick apart what you don't like about our song selection... but nobody ever gives any actual suggestions of songs.Song Titles and Artists people. Because it would appear that we don't know what you mean when you say "pump up music"Also, as far as the "energy" level of our performance goes, we are not quite used to projecting our performance to an actual audience, also the acoustics of the stadium are severely different from those of the Rubber Bowl. So, if you want a better show, stay for our postgame performance, or show up at Guzzetta an hour before kickoff... or spring for better seats. But trust me when I say that we are really trying with the energy thing, its tricky.P.S. We are tweaking our run on for the next game (to generate more intensity) and the rest of our pregame performance will be slightly altered. After Saturday there will be quiz to see if you noticed what we changed.P.P.S. I just realized the absurdity of revamping our pregame mid-season because of fan feedback, you guys don't know how lucky you are.... (imagine OSU changing script Ohio because of one person's comment online)
  9. Oooh, I can see the added staircase for the band that they added on cam 2. (yes they forgot to make a way for us to get onto the field, but yes they promptly fixed it)P.S. Band camp started Saturday, and it looks like we are going to have an exceptional product for you folks by game time.
  10. Looks like the rich people are getting their chairs installed today.
  11. Drove by tonight at midnight... and the jumbo-tron was on, it lit up nearly half of the stadium. They had a billowing US flag graphic looping, and the resolution was pretty good.
  12. No, it is actually already up, you just can't see it. It is at the bottom of the upper deck on the east stands, and it is black so it doesn't show up at all on the web cams.
  13. You can't see it on the webcams, but the ribbon board has been installed in on the east stands. Keep your eyes peeled for a test or something.
  14. You are correct, there are brick columns at both the north and south ends of the stadium awaiting black iron fence inserts and concrete capitals. There is already a substantial length of completed fencing between the Jackson field and the back of the west stands, and it looks gorgeous.
  15. I'm heading up Tuesday... I'll make sure to bring my camera.
  16. I'm calling it right now... The first touchdown will be scored by ZIPPY!
  17. Walked by the stadium this evening... they are beginning to enclose the back of the east stands (I thought they might have nixed that for cost)
  18. Looks like the field's rubber infill is going down.
  19. Welcome back big booty!P.S. Nobody knows you new number, so at summer band they were all asking who texted them about basic... we figured it was you however.
  20. It would be nice if the band could get some space.... for game day storage.
  21. I don't get it.... every year I have busted my ass doing high step for 90% of pre-game.... if we were walking all of a sudden, nobody told me.
  22. Mr. Karriker is coming back.... he has already completely revamped pregame (all high-step)Unfortunately, the new pregame bears a striking resemblance to Michigan State's pregame.... so if you want a preview. Also, somebody was saying something about more drum corps like pregame "parking lot" warm ups and junk.... just look for the Trumpet section behind Buchtel Hall a couple hours before home games for our "Warm Ups." So listen for us, and stop by.
