  9. 2021 Fall Zips Men's Soccer Schedule

    Assuming the MAC returns to usual scheduling and looking at MAC home and away games in 2019, the schedule thus far looks like:

     

    Home:

    August 15 - Xavier (Exhibition)  5 pm (Sunday)

    September 10 - Indiana  7 pm (Friday)

    October 7 - Georgia Southern*  7 pm (Thursday)

    October 13 - Penn State  TBA (Wednesday)

    October 23 - BGSU*  7 pm (Saturday)

    TBA - Georgia State*

     

     

     

    Away:

    September 15 - at Ohio State 7 pm (Wednesday)

    September 21 - at Marshall 7 pm (Tuesday)

    TBA - at WMU*

    TBA - at NIU*

    I took it differently, Zipmeister, as far as the elite program comment when I read it. Now that you point out how you read it, I'd say the words are confusing, and now I'm unsure what Clayton really meant to say. 

     

    I'm happy the new AD reached out to him.

    Olympian Clayton Murphy Sets His Sights on Gold in Tokyo and Reuniting with Akron

     

    ...While Murphy says there's been no movement on restoring the relationship, Akron's new athletic director, Charles Guthrie, has reached out to Murphy's team and hopes to arrange a meeting either before or after the Tokyo games.

    No one mentioned this transfer previously because the TDS Transfer Tracker was very recently updated to include that information. I've been watching but it hadn't been posted previously. Appears TDS just updated within the last day or so.

And well our first game in the tournament was WVU as 2,132 came out to watch Marshall defeat the MAC champ 2-1.  Your last NCAA may have been 2018 but you done something a lot of schools only dream of and that was make the College Cup Finals.  For example Penn State has made the tournament 33 times and have never made the finals and have only made the College Cup semi's once, in 1979 or  41 years ago, the University of Washington has made the tournament 26 time and the furthest they have been is the Elite 8 or quarterfinals. WVU has made the tournament 14 times since 1961 but has yet to make it past the 2nd round.

     

    Also Akron has a National Championship, something only 26 schools can say. And in that, 2 schools don't even belong  DI anymore in West Chester (1961. Last year DI 1969) and Hartwick (1977, Last year DI 2018).

     

    Oh, believe me, I know how special Akron Men's Soccer is. By the way, congratulations on Marshall winning the National Championship this Spring. I was cheering for you. Attending the Marshall-Akron match at Marshall in 2019 and the match at Akron this Spring, I realized how good Marshall had become.

    I've been fortunate to attend all but the 1986 College Cup.

     

    2 Hermann Trophy winners (Teal Bunbury, Darlington Nagbe)

    Numerous pro players, including 1 in EPL

    Several USMNT players; 1 in the 2014 World Cup

    @BigGreenTruck I, too, wish Akron could join Conference USA for men's soccer. Unfortunate that Akron football is so bad, or perhaps we could join Conference USA as a full member.

     

    Also, please note, Akron's last NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament appearance was 2018, not 2019. However, 2018 was the last in a string of appearances that dates back to 2007. 5 College Cup appearances since 2009.

    Some notable items to me...

    • Danny Strachan and Carlo Ritaccio in the middle of the back
    • Retooling the midfield with some new guys coming in
    • Up top ... Diogo [Pacheco], Jason Shokalook, Dyson Clapier + some new guys ... leads me to believe that Will Jackson may be moving to fullback as we saw him play well in the Spring.
    • Happy that Danny Strachan, Diogo Pacheco, Hazem Sobhy, and Will Meyer are getting an extra season due to NCAA adding 1 season eligibility for seniors due to COVID
    • As @zippypitt mentioned, 'lots of home games this Fall' ... I like the sound of that, too!
