Anyone know why tickets@uakron.edu sent me two emails (one time stamped 11:36 and the second 11:37) confirming my ticket purchase (which I didn't make) for the St Francis game?
Did you fill out the survey for the free ticket? Mine came this morning from that email address.

Looks like there will be no webcam after all. Chad reached out to me today and said something different is in the works. I have no idea what that means. Sorry for getting peoples hopes up.
No worries. Thanks for the update.

ESPN breaks down the quarterbacks into tiers. Irons is listed in tier 22 - along with several other MAC quarterbacks.

I don’t see any reason why we won’t be competitive in every MAC game.
In year one, this is exactly what we are looking for. Be competitive.

I want a replacement for Ali Ali, and I think we'll find one, but I'm not sure we need one. We are going from a guard-light team, that allowed Ali Ali to take 477 shots last year, to a guard-heavy team that has 4 new guards (good size, too) to consume 477 shots.
Those 477 shots were second on the team (X took more) and only led to less than 14 ppg. Can those 4 guards slot in and average more than 14 ppg in total with 477 shots? A modest 6 ppg per player (around Tribble/Dawson production) would equal 10 more ppg. That would be 78 ppg (subtracting Aziz's ppg), with zero increase in production from the returning guys.
Moneyball.
Don't forget there are two sides to the coin. Ali averaged 14 ppg, but also played good defense. Even if the guards can pick up the offensive slack, we still need an athletic wing player to play defense.

I'd say his career arc will be most comparable to that of Utomi. Both were wings who were asked to play as an undersized 4. They both developed into being efficient long-range scorers who could create their own shot, but weren't great at creating shots for their teammates.
Utomi transferred to what had been the previous season a 16-17 (8-10) USC season. He started the season as the 6th or 7th man, but played his way into the starting lineup. He saw a decrease role, but he was still a key piece on a team that would have made the tournament had the tournament not been cancelled. Ali similarly will have to accept a role of playing 25-28 minutes a night, but him being the 3rd or 4th scoring option is probably what's best for him. All throughout the season he seemed to play his worst in crunch time situations where he felt he had to shoulder the load. He's at his best when he's not asked to do too much and instead takes what's given to him.
Good assessment.

The further away from the football, the higher the chances of a freshman starting. Meaning it’s more likely for a freshman to make a bigger impact at safety or cornerback than it is at defensive end or defensive tackle. However, there are plenty of examples of it happening, but it’s usually due to a high need at that position or the player just being that much more gifted than the current players on the roster. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Murphy get some playing time in the back half of the season, but it’ll be tough in the front half - especially with this year’s depth.
As far as the 3-4 goes, the best way to think of the 3 down linemen is as space eaters. In a perfect world, they would hold their ground, swallow up the double teams, and allow the linebackers to run free. In today’s game, the schemes have gotten more complicated and offenses have become so good at getting to the second level (think about all the inside and outside zones you see now vs 20 years ago). So when a defensive lineman has the chance to make the play, he’d better do it, otherwise the chances are high that an offensive lineman has already moved up to the linebacker.
The DEs are usually in the 6’3-6’6 250-300lbs range. The DTs are usually in the 6’0 - 6’3 265-315lbs range. Those are just general numbers as some players are more productive at different weights due to their body types. Our roster may not exactly fit those ranges right now as the staff will continue to recruit more to the scheme we are playing.Depending on down and distance we could see a combination of any of the linemen. Could be up to 3 DTs on the field in short yardage, 3 DEs for pass rush, or 1 DT and 1 DE when we go nickel. The 3-4 is popular due to all the combinations and pass rushing angles that can be created.
Thanks. Very insightful.

He's replaceable. Doesn't phase me.
I get that. I'm sure Groce will be able to find a replacement. I just didn't want to break up what seemed like good team chemistry.

I'd be ok with Marshall & Wright State being perennial opponents.
Agreed. I'd like a number of these type of teams mixed with a few P5 teams and then a couple of lower-tier teams.

Even though last night's game had a rough ending, I really enjoyed the ride over the last week or so. Maybe it's because my expectations were a little lower than in other years. Maybe it's the fact the Akron was playing their best basketball at the right time.
Last night's game showed us something we were all concerned about - depth. To be able to complete at this level, we need another F that can rebound and score. Another G or wing wouldn't hurt either. Hopefully, we have that with next year's incoming class. If so, this team could be really special.

What a great season.

Announcers keep talking about UCLA as a final four team. That is not a final four team.
-
We need a four point play.
-
Regroup. Go score a bucket.

The players believe they can win.
