Remember, if a voter moves us up from 25 to 24, we get two votes instead of one. I'm guessing that most voters that had us at #25 last week will move us up, because so many ahead of us have lost on their ballots. Even though we don't know their ballots, the odds are pretty good that they had some of the teams that lost directly ahead of us. We will at least double our vote total, maybe triple it.

There's no way to know what the ballots look like in the Coaches Poll, but we're sitting at #28 and the #24, #23, #22, #21, and #20 teams all lost. We should move up in the AP poll as well.

Because the voters are humans that give name recognition more importance than objective comparisons. Because Can't and NIU started the season unranked and had to claw their way up and hope teams ahead lost, while schools like OSU started off high and only had the task of not losing to a bunch of home games vs cupcakes. Because they didn't get nearly as many televised games for voters to see them. There are so many reasons that NIU and Can't weren't in the top-10 that have nothing to do with competition.

I guess now's a good time for Chauncey to show that he's ready to come back full-time. If it's only a sprained ankle, then Walsh should be mostly healed by Wednesday.

Akron eats these kind of slow-paced teams for breakfast. Even with Walsh out, I'm not worried.

Having a week to rest before NDSU has to help.

Last year, Drexel's only top-100 RPI wins outside of conference play were home games vs. Princeton and Cleveland State. Sound familiar? Akron has that, plus a win vs MTSU. NDSU would be another top-100 win. In conference play, Drexel beat VCU (38) once and George Mason (82) once for two top-100 wins. The rest of the conference teams' RPI were below 100. They also lost to VCU in the conference championship game. Akron's best two MAC wins are Ohio (74) and WMU (114). Add it all together, and Drexel had: Princeton (89), CSU (85), George Mason (82), and VCU (38). They had three losses to 100+ RPI teams: Norfolk State (129), at Delaware (153), and at Georgia State (138). Win out the regular season, and Akron has: NDSU (78), Ohio (74), Ohio (74), and MTSU (27). However, we only have one loss to a 100+ RPI team, Coastal Carolina (242) in the season opener.

In the 2011-12 season, Drexel had a SOS of 233 going into Selection Sunday. Their non-conference SOS was ranked 213. Using RPIForecast.com to factor in the NDSU game and future MAC games, Akron's SOS will be around 137. The non-conference SOS will be around 52.
