  1. That screams moving Jalil Carter back to defense! That assumes the coaches can admit the mistake of moving him away in the first place.
  2. Coaches and players go over the film. Some bad news is that our starting safeties, Jared Province and Josh Richmond, are both hurt and most likely out against kentucky. As if that position didn't have enough problems.
  3. Thanks for chiming in. I didn't know about the kicker being lined up. But what you don't realize is that Akron has three kickers on scholarship right now. We use one for kickoffs, one for PK/FG duty, and one rides the pine. And what's worse is that absolutely none of them belong on a D-I roster. A waste of scholarships. Goodness knows we could certainly use the three scholies for other positions. The last time we had a good kicker, it was a walk-on from the soccer team (he had a soccer or academic scholarship, so he could afford to walk-on for football). I don't understand why we don't do that again. There are plenty of incredible athletes sitting on the bench for soccer.
  4. BUt "if" he gets there by recruiting "well", then our cupboard won't be bare as it is/was now! Great talent is useless if you can't coach them to a win. I don't want a "coach" who can bring in tons of talent but still find ways to lose games he shouldn't. I want a coach who can get his team to overachieve, to win even without top-notch talent, and if he can recruit well then that's a bonus. Being a winner is more important than being a recruiter.
  5. I don't want to contribute to Can't's attendance drive. They're counting heavily on a big crowd for the wagon-wheel game to get them over the 90k mark. I can't help them out without feeling ill. And if the football team is bad enough (winless with no realistic shot to beat even Can't), I would rather drive 8 hours to the middle of nowhere in Illinois to watch soccer than continue supporting Coach I. Sorry, but Football is on the verge of being dead to me.
  6. NIU wants to emulate the atmosphere created by students at Akron soccer games. I think we should send a busload or two of our own students to show them how it's done.
  7. A new offer: K Michael Branthover I liked the preview to an article beneath his profile. "For a high school kicker to get a full scholarship he'd have to be pretty special." Ah yes. I remember when a young Igor Iveljic was ranked as a top-10 kicker in high school. Pretty special indeed.
  8. I am still guilty of being too optimistic at 35-0, aren't I? Not if you're predicting the score after the first quarter.
  9. Add another verbal for the Lady Zips 2011 class. D Carli Pimm, from Plain City, Ohio. Plays for the Ohio Premier Eagles club team. All five of our verbals are defenders.
  10. Those are all good. I would love to see some home games against the lower ACC teams. Notre Dame (Everybody knows them, and they're usually a upper-end Big East team) Northwestern (Revenge!) Duke (ACC team, well known brand name) Temple (just to be able to beat them in something) South Carolina and Kentucky (They play in C-USA for soccer, but people know them as SEC teams and they're not half bad)
  11. It really is interesting to go back and read the reactions when Ianello's hiring was first announced. Has anybody changed their tune? "We have the pieces in place to be successful immediately,'" the AD said after he fired Brookhart. "This is not a rebuilding job. The cupboard is full."
  12. I can't wait to hear tonight's ZipsLive. Coach Ianello will be on, along with Coach Porter. What Ianello says tonight will tell us a lot about his character and coaching abilities. And whenever Coach Porter comes on it's a good listen.
  13. We didn't defer. We won the toss and made our choice, which was to kick off instead of receive. If you win the toss, you either make a choice then and there or you defer until the second half. We chose right there. We chose to kick off instead of receive, that was our choice and the other team got to make their own choice at the beginning of the second half. There are three ways to interpret what happened. 1) One of our captains is a moron. Coach told him to defer and he said "kick" instead. 2) One of our coaches is a moron. Coach told him to choose "kick", and captain followed orders. 3) We were so full of ourselves that we thought we didn't need to start with the ball at the beginning of either half in order to win. Either way we have someone incredibly stupid leading our players whether it's a coach or a captain.
  14. Yes. We interviewed Paul Winters, Elon Head Coach Pete Lembo, Ed Warinner, and Mark Stoops.
  15. We brought in three JUCOs in the past recruiting class, all at extremely thin positions. I don't think any of them have seen the field yet this year. Where is CB Miklos Blake? Our secondary couldn't defend against a high school passing attack right now. Where is OG Patrick McCloskey? Our Offensive Line lets defenders through like a sieve. Where is WR Marquelo Suel? He can't possibly be worse at gaining separation than our current starters.
  16. What about the new strength program the players are on? They all seemed to be in love with it. Nicely was quoted as saying that it has made them "bigger, faster, stronger" about a week before the season. To me it seems to have had the opposite effect.
  17. Were there people actually excited about a switch to a pro-style offense? People who thought abandoning the spread would work at the college level?
  18. You could have stopped right there.
  19. Did anybody think it would be so soon?
  20. The players are in shock. The reactions I'm getting from them are of confusion ("how could this possibly happen?") and depression. I haven't seen a single reaction of a player becoming more determined and vowing to work his ass off to never get embarrassed like this again. They don't know how to win. Some blame absolutely has to get put on the players. The defense looked like they took the day off. The WRs are completely inept. A bright spot was the running game which produced two 100-yard rushers in Allen and Burney. But if you didn't watch the game, you don't know just how poorly coached the team was. The adjustments were non-existent. Even as GW's offense picked apart our zone we never once switched to man coverage. The playcalling was as unimaginative as a Madden computer opponent set to "easy". We kept doing the same things over and over and never switched when it was proven that something didn't work. The players were physically unprepared. There were very little substitutions when the players were tired, as if the coach was afraid to use our depth to wear down a team that only brought around 50 players. The coaches deserve as much blame as the players, if not more.
  21. Their pressbox looks like the Hartville Kitchen.
  22. That's simply not true. Brookhart left the team with as much talent as we've had in the past decade. We're not in horrible shape, at least we weren't until the Rob Ianello tornado of incompetance came spinning its way into town. This team has the talent to play for a conference championship, but with this career loser position coach running things, we'll be lucky to win a conference game. Remember I am not an Akron fan.. I am an outsider looking in. You may not think your program is not in horrible shape, but it is. You have the best facilities in the MAC, yet you are the worst program in the MAC, at least one can argue that. Your previous coaching staff had a chance to recruit SOLID players to Akron when they were building that stadium, but they failed miserably at it. Let Ianello get some recruits here, and if he fails, then his time is up. Can you help me understand why you post here so much if you're not an Akron fan? Does Youngstown State not have a fan forum? We already won today, 31-7, in front of 18,025 fans at Stambaugh.. Not too much to talk about my friend. However I wanted to come here and at least defend your coach. You guys are nuts if you want him fired after two games. Few of you realized how bad your program became under Brookhart... now that you see it, you want Ianello's head... Brookhart never lost to a FCS team. Brookhart won two games against BCS teams. If Brookhart could beat Morgan State 41-0 with the same players that Ianello lost to GW with, who is the better coach?
  23. I don't care how good a recruiter you are, you're not going to get any appreciable talent to come here and play for a 0-12 team. I don't know. maybe he's a good head coach but his offensive and defensive coordinators both suck. When they left their respective schools, I saw almost universal joy from those school's fans that they were gone.
  24. What was that quote from Nicely before the season? Oh yeah. "If we don't get to a bowl game with this talent..."
