  1. I think our goal in this game should be to simply put a better showing than WKU did. Last week, we were about even with WKU's performance against Kentucky. Doing better than them against IU shows progress.
  2. I get the feeling that Carter is due to break a huge return sometime soon.
  3. LaFrance redeems himself with a TD catch.
  4. Josh Richmond, Safety. He's coming back from an injury against Syracuse. maybe he should waited another week before coming back.
  5. Indiana might have the best offense in the Big Ten. But we still need to stop the big plays. Make them beat us the hard way.
  6. Maybe coach Jackson needs to invest in some new, stickier gloves for his players.
  7. Our FB might also be our best WR.
  8. Look how conservative playcalling becomes when we're in the redzone.
  9. We need safeties not converted to receiver.
  10. It looks like it. He hasn't played yet this year.
  11. No team can survive racking up penalties in the redzone. Especially when you're a team like Akron. 14-3 IU
  12. That scoring drive had Nicely throw 4/6 for 33 yards, all 4 completions to different receivers, including one to a TE and one to a FB, and even one to Jalil Carter .
  13. Wow. Igor makes a 45-yarder.
  14. I didn't expect to win. I don't even expect us to cover the spread. I do, however expect to see the level of intensity that we played with against Kentucky that kept it close for longer than expected. And I expect that intensity to last longer than a quarter and a half this time.
  15. I don't get it. Wouldn't that make him far more likely to see playing time since we hardly have any guards on the team now?
  16. Take a look at the NCAA attendance records (page 4 has the all-time records on it). I don't think we would ever break 10k for a home game, no matter who we played or whether it was in the tournament or not. It takes years of incredible attendance and a lack of a football team to get the community to turn out like that. Could our crowd have been significantly bigger if we weren't competing with high school football last night, assuming we had the extra capacity? I don't think we would have made it to 6k. At the same time, I would kill to have the crowds we've had this year (especially the student numbers) at basketball games. Could you imagine that atmosphere being packed into an enclosed space?
  17. Ianello says we have no depth whatsoever, so he won't make any personnel changes. I think the "no depth" issue is complete BS.
  18. Some highlights, overdubbed with Caleb Porter talking about the game. You'll see more clips from the game on Youtube pop up by tomorrow.
  19. It's the most profitable, relative to expenses. If basketball brought in 5k per game they would be far more profitable than soccer. But in terms of sheer revenue added to the department, football still dwarfs any other sport.
  20. He should have stuck with the Zips. he opened up his recruitment, so we opened up ours and brought in players to replace him. We have the luxury of not needing to wait on a waffling high school kid to build our recruiting strategies around. Still wish we could have had a PG in the 2011 class. Maybe we can get his brother in 2012.
  21. Unfortunately, I think this is the closest we'll ever get to seeing actual "emotion" from Ianello. He'll never call out an individual player to the press, he'll never have an angry rant of a press conference, he'll never make a joke. This is the limit of his urgency.
  22. I get the feeling that the team has moved on from Ennis. We kept recruiting and getting other players, even after we ran out of spots. Still, we really do need a PG in this class. Desperately.
  23. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...timism_for.html Certainly.
  24. That would hopefully be part of the marketing pitch. They could set up an area next to Zips Fest with more of a college feel, like what they had with SpringFest last spring. Throw in a beer garden and some official cornhole sets (maybe an organized tournament between the UA greeks and the visiting students) and students would come out in droves from both Akron and other schools.
  25. I had a converasation the other day with some friends about why there are so many OSU fans in NE Ohio. There are plenty of factors and most of them are out of our control. Of course, media exposure is the big one, but that won't be fixed unless we start winning. merchandising is another big one. OSU gear is accepted almost as its own brand where you can wear it anywhere and be accepted, and we don't have the capital to flood the markets and compete on that front. So what can we do that we aren't doing already? Win? Duh. But what else? One of the factors for the huge number of OSU fans comes from the oversaturation of small colleges and universities in the area, like John Carrol, Tri-C, Oberlin, etc.. Tons and tons of people attend these colleges and are left with no high-level college team of their own to root for, so they default to OSU. OSU is far enough away that they can be seen as a major football option (they're not near the program enough to see that it's just another university) but close enough that they can be seen as the local college team. This is something that UA can capitalize on. They can become that option for major college football. To do this, we need to attract students from those schools to the football games. I think we need to have a few "student ID nights" per year, maybe for every MAC home game. Show your student ID from another area college (and even high school; start them early) and they get a ticket for $5 in a seating section set aside for them to create another "student section"-type area. It lets UA students bring their freinds from other schools at a discount. It brings in people to campus and the stadium who would never normally come here and shows them what type of university we are, where they might just think of us as another small college like Ursuline.
