They can laugh all they want. Anything less than $18 is selling at a loss, and won't be made up through concessions or merchandise. They're killing themselves financially (even more than usual) in an attempt to keep within the NCAA attendance rules. huh? By your logic, selling at $54 will be 3x less of a loss! It really doesn't make sense if demand isn't there to sell at $54, and the same is true for $18. Example of reducing price to make more money below. It's called optimizing volume versus price. 4000 tickets at $18 yields $72,000 6500 tickets at $12 yields $78,000 By lowering prices significantly, you drew more fans and offset price with volume. Not only could you make more money, but you create a real event experience which increases future demand. You assume a demand for tickets. What if there are no more people who wanted to go to the game Saturday than those who showed up? Exactly. No more fans would have shown up even if we lowered the price to $5 a ticket. And Can't's pricing structure simply lowers the value of their product. If people pay $5 to see them, they see that it's worth less than a high school game, and so must not be as important as one or as exciting, or worth the trip.

You're right that we were missing a lot of guys at key positions. I think the coach might be reluctant to play so many freshmen, but if they really are the best option, you need to go with them instead of hanging on to ineffective returning players. If they were held out as a precaution, I would imagine they would return next week when the chance to get injured is much less.

Need to be careful. Don't want to give up a red card and play a man down. -
I was expecting to not get run over with great returning talent on defense. I was expecting the offense to look more organized than a pee-wee team. I was expecting the offensive playcalling to have some balls. We won't even beat Gardner Webb if the playcalling is as unimaginative and chickensh*t as it was this week. Is that too much to ask?

He's ultra-conservative when it comes to playcalling. It's a sign that he doesn't trust his players to go out and do anything beyond the simplest plays. It's also why we didn't see anything resembling a trick play, not even a simple reverse.

You didn't see the game. You don't know that Cuse ended the game on our two yard line about to score again, but chose to take a knee as the clock wore down and showed some mercy.

Ok. That made me chuckle out loud, despite the bad mood. I'll see all you other 45 faithful in the stands next week. It's our best chance at a win. The quality of the opponent will make it look like the team took a huge leap next week. Then it will be back to reality.

Back to the game. If you have the stomach to go back and watch, you'll see the offense played out of both a pro and a shotgun spread. When in the spread, the players looked comfortable, the chains moved, we gained positive yardage. When in the pro, things went backwards either through penalties or stupid playcalling or players simply not being the right fit for the offensive scheme.

I'll continue to show up to the football games if only to collect more ROOwards points. Gotta get those prizes. Also, I wouldn't give up on basketball already, not after the massive roster changes. We don't know what we have there and I would at least see the new faces before dismissing them.

Attendance didn't even break 16k. For a home game against a BCS team, with a new coach that loves to plaster his name all over our marketing. People are smart enough to know that they shouldn't give a sh*t that we have a new coach or a returning coach or any coach at all. It's what's on the field that counts. it's the players, it's the excitement of playing FBS football. That wasn't marketed at all. Instead, all I heard was "hey come out and see our new coach!" when most people didn't even know we fired the old one.

Whose bright idea was it to try and run a pro offense again? Defense looked better in a 4-3 than a 3-3-5 but that's not hard to do. Playcalling on offense was abysmal.

ESPN3 filters through a list of approved DNSs. If you're having trouble, you might have to wait for them to fix it. Or you could reset your cable modem by disconnecting the power, resetting all the things connected to it, counting to 30, and then plugging it back in. You might get lucky.

Did you factor in GA? UofA has always done pretty well with walk up sales as well. Another factor playing into good ticket sales is tOSU played last night. Like it or not, it does impact attendance. I went to a football game myself (USC vs S. Miss) and it really got me in the mood to go to another game. I'm already looking forward to going to the Duke vs. Wake game next Satruday just to watch another game. Watching football makes a fan want to go to a game or go to another game. Without a tOSU game Saturday, I believe there will be a lot of people who reengergized their football spirit last night and will be looking to go to a game. It's Lab Day weekend. No NFL. No tOSU. School has statred so there are no trips to the beach. It's Saturday night and HS games are over including JV games. There are no interesting college games on TV Saturday (evidence....Arizona vs. Toledo is the ESPN prime time game). There is really nothing of note going on in NE Ohio. 20,000 minimum should be expected. I don't expect the Zips to win, but if they did in front of a big crowd over a Big East team, it would do wonders. Heck, just play well and be entertaining and a loss wouldn't kill the interest in the season. Don't suck!!! All of this assumes that people even knew that there was a game happening that they could go to. From what I've seen, that's not really the case.

Akron vs North Carolina Game Thread

To me, that doesn't matter so long as the people of Akron and the alumni/students of UA care about it. Those are the ones who make things happen. If even half the alumni in the area cared about Soccer, we could fill an MLS stadium every game. And they just might begin to care when their alma-mater wins a national title. I think that's the step that needs to be taken to really turn them on to the sport. All they want is a winner to cheer for. Same goes for the city and region. -

Today was just a bad day for UNC overall. The reason there isn't much reaction to the game is because they found out twelve football players have been ruled ineligible to play, less than 24 hours before the season kicks off. That bad news pushed our game into the background. But it really doesn't matter what their fans think. What matters is that we got a gigantic win over a top 5 team on the road. If any pollsters out there had some doubts from the USF exhibition game, that has been obliterated. Way to follow up on the SI article and justify the hype, Zippers! Time to start our quest to become -
One of the dorkiest and yet coolest ideas I have ever seen. Send that to TW!!! It just so happens that we are in possession of a "bat-signal" device. It has already been used in the most awesome way possible. (that's a certain landmark water tower that the image is being projected on to)

It sounds a sports anthem because the beat is taken almost exactly from this song, which I'm certain you've heard at every sporting event you've ever been to:

Maybe there's no monetary support for the very reason that we don't do too many things like this.
