  1. Cool. That's the kind of time and place it needs to be seen, along with during the local news. Count this as a positive score for the AD.
  2. So if I see this right, we still have two spots open. Akron graduates Bardo, McKnight, McNeese, and Roberts. Already in is Blake Justice and a greyshirting Nick Harney. Chauncey Gilliam will begin playing in 2011, but his scholarship counts for 2010. Unclear if Storm Sanders will be greyshirting or if he's a 2010 walk-on. Likely the two final spots will be filled by a SG and either a PF or C. Jakarr Sampson is the big catch that we should be focusing on (his ESPN rating went up from 92 to 97 after the King James Classic).
  3. It's not so much "rebuilding" as it is "reorganizing". You can't trade away your players to another team for prospects in college. The best players will play. Under JD, that wasn't always the case. JD had too much loyalty toward his upperclassmen. This is a chance for some of the talent JD recruited to finally get to play, instead of being stuck behind other players.
  4. Being hosted by UAB in Birmingham, Alabama.
  5. I bet you think that "talkies" are just a fad that soon enough that we'll all see the light and go back to the good old days when films were silent and you had to read what the actors were saying while a theater organ plays in the background, too. Welcome to the future, where everybody knows what everybody else is thinking at all times, even when we don't want to. There are some great tweeters, like Brian Windhorst, there are some that are just news aggregators and act like an RSS feed, and then there are your countless social drones who feel compelled to tell everyone about how a fly got into their house or the consistency of their latest bowel movement. There is some great information on Twitter that you can't get anywhere else, and you know about it instantly. The trick is to know which people to follow. Coach Porter will be a good person to follow because he is someone who acts and communicates professionally. I don't see a person like him cluttering up your feed with inane social networking babble.
  6. The whole area is fenced off now, and they are in the process of removing any scrap-able metal bits they can get. Lots of the windows are busted out already. Does anybody have a link to the renderings of what the new education building will look like? If I recall correctly it would be symmetrical to the Student Union, across the Coleman Commons.
  7. The foundation is in for the grandstand and they're beginning to put up cinderblock walls for the locker rooms. The supports for the scoreboard are up behind the west goal.
  8. We are seeing a shift from trying to out-recruit BCS schools to trying to out recruit MAC schools. If we can do that, it's a start toward at least being an upper level MAC team.
  9. New offer: OG Travis Switzer
  10. I don't see why they wouldn't. You have to check the website to see the messages.
  11. Seeing the background he chose gets me hyped up for the new stadium. What an experience that game was.
  12. Added Zips verbal QB Kyle Pohl as well.
  13. Scoutingohio.com reports that QB Kyle Pohl has verballed to Akron. This comes right on the heels of OT Andrew Bohan's verbal. He's 6-3 and 205 lbs, and is listed as a pro-style QB. Seems to throw accurately while on the move. Rivals profile ESPN Profile
  14. Marketing! A Zips TV commercial for season tickets! A whole two months before the season!
  15. Follow him @uacoachporter He is the latest in a stream of Zips coaches, assistants, and players that have joined the site.
  16. Caleb Porter! @uacoachporter
  17. 6'-5" and 265 lbs. Good size for an interior lineman. Getting our 4th verbal (2nd one this month) is also a sign that recruiting might be starting to pick up. Lots of recruits like to make a decision just before their senior year begins so they can focus on football and not be distracted by the recruiting process.
  18. OT Andrew Bohan of Avon Lake has verballed to the Zips! Profile updated on the original post of the thread.
  19. Same here. It might be better that way. The school still gets some liscencing money from the purchase, and it also shows the area businesses that there is an interest in Akron gear. The majority of OSU gear isn't bought in their team shop, but in stores around the state. We should try to do the same thing on a more local scale.
  20. Yeah, because none of us ever drank at a college party when we weren't 21. whatever. We were all smart enough not to get caught.
  21. I hope this isn't indicative of Ianello's ability to recruit players not stupid enough to get in trouble, but you can't say that it looks good. 8 Notre Dame football players arrested. Coach I was the chief recruiter for all the players on the team except for the incoming freshmen.
  22. Now I heard he's going to a college in Kansas?
  23. The story of Director of Basketball Operations Dan Peters
  24. I use the Interbelt to get into and out of the city occasionally when coming to campus. It's not that big of a hassle. It's impossible to get to the interbelt if you're heading west. That's why so many people are trying to exit at Main Street, which is the whole reason they want to shut down the Wolf Ledges ramps.
  25. http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/98672109.html The city of Akron is trying to get approval and funding to re-work the stretch of I-76-I-77 closest to UA. It would cut off a major route that people use to get to the University with the closing of on and off ramps along that stretch, forcing people to use Route 8. I would be all for this if the Interbelt highway was completely connected to the other highways instead of being a strip of concrete in a sea of surface streets. Connecting it to I-76 in both directions would help ease the flow of traffic in a major way. That should have been the city's top highway priority for many years, but now it lays almost abandoned and only used by driver's ed students who are trying to get used to freeway driving without dealing with traffic.
