  1. Yeah. Our own news and TV stations, fully seperate from Cleveland.
  2. The MAC has been doing a "getting to know" feature on football players for about a month now. Ianello has refused to give out any information for them to write an article, so Akron doesn't get any free publicity while other schools have two or three articles already out and more being put out daily.
  3. UA wanted ad: Video Coordinator
  4. According to that, they're the top two scoring youth players in all Jamaica.
  5. Media Day is this Friday, July 30th, from 8 to Noon. Ianello will be there, and he is bringing LB Mike Thomas and OL Mike Ward. You can watch his press conference for free on the All-MACcess thing on the MAC website. The MAC has a great sense of humor, or possibly irony. The two guest speakers are two people who couldn't possibly care less about the MAC: Bill Hancock the Executive Director of the BCS, and Desmond Howard of ESPN Game Day. I have to wonder if either of them even knew about the MAC until they got the invites to attend this thing.
  6. I always thought that would be a great place for an Arby's.
  7. Isn't there some tanning business still in there?
  8. Forgot, if you like real BBQ, it's worth the drive to one of the Old Carolina Barbecues. I don't know which is closest to the Falls, but it's worth a bit of a drive.
  9. I don't think the 2011 class is complete.
  10. Zips having their main high school camp this weekend. We should see some offers come out of that.
  11. Never to early to get started. Only 42 days until FOOTBALL. Facebook event page. This has been up for about a month. It would be great to see at least 1500 in the "attending" column, so RSVP and invite some friends. This is how you can help market the Zips. Syracuse message board. Syracuse newspaper podcast interview with Tom Gaffney.
  12. It's amazing. Kids with "Steve Zakuani" levels of talent are often taken for granted in their own countries, but could become professional stars here. They don't realize it because nobody tells them that they can come here and continue both their education and soccer careers for a few more years and have a good shot at playing professionally.
  13. This eguins bashing is getting old. I'm glad to hear that the players are out there working on their timing and routes, especially with the transition from a spread to a pro offense. Playing YSU is mostly a convenience factor. They're the only close school with any type of decent college football team that's not named Can't. Better than practicing against a D-III or NAIA school from the Cleveland suburbs.
  14. The only place in the Falls where that monstrosity's not visible is at the bottom of Gorge metropark.
  15. Drove past the stadium today. They are working inside the future team shop. Up until a few weeks ago it was still a dirt floor and structural beams.
  16. Paying the players is soemthing that gets thrown out there all the time as a solution to some perceived problem. But what problem does it address? Players being too greedy? If they're greedy, they'll still take money illegaly, get their rent payed for by boosters, and all that stuff. Paying them won't change that. They'll take all the illicit stuff and pocket the school's paycheck. Another argument I hear is that the schools make all sorts of money from athletics, so they should pay the players who bring in that money. There are 1080 schools in the NCAA. 18 of them actually make any money from athletics. At any given time, the top 25 in football has at least 10 schools in it that are losing money. And you think they can pay? $1k a month... every month of the year? Only during the season? If so, what about spring practice? What happens with Title IX? Do you have to pay 82 women athletes the same amount, too? Or extend it to all sports, so the men's rowing team and the women's golf team and all the other sports that don't bring in a dime of revenue get $1k per athlete per month as well, costing the school many millions? Somebody will sue for inequality if you don't.
  17. Last year's Zips squad proved that height doesn't really matter. I doubt this is the case with Akron getting these two, but most colleges will often choose to go after players who are big-bodied and play physical kick-the-ball-forward american style soccer instead of shorter ones who know how to play the beautiful game. I don't think that's what Akron is doing here, as I said. I just don't see the need for taller players in soccer outside the keeper position.
  18. The NCAA knew that USC would never give back anything of actual value. That's why they took away 30 scholarships, TV, the post-season, and put them on probation. If they can't give back money from the apst, they'll take it away from the future.
  19. The short and sweet in lay terms: The case in going back to the lower courts, and we're going to lose. The cost of finishing the stadium on time? Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but they tried to halt construction until the original suit was settled?
  20. http://www.leagle.com/unsecure/page.htm?sh...ohco20100721558 Any lawyers out there able to translate this?
  21. He threw 6 TDs. Doesn't speak well for the defense if we ended in a tie.
  22. Hibachi Japan is located in downtown Cuyahoga Falls. That's something to try out and see if you like it. It's fun to watch your meal being cooked right in front of you. And the there's the Chowder House. It used to be named Jimmy's Café, after an artist that showed of his work there (I think it's still there). It's a casual little place with some good food. As the name implies, the specialty is clam chowder. What's really cool is that you can bring along your own beer or wine for a $5 "corkage fee". It's well known to the locals so you'll probably need a reservation. If you really want a good list of places to eat and things to do, check out the330.com It has a sortable list of restaurants by location.
  23. First exhibition game is August 13th. 24 days to go. 3 1/2 weeks.
  24. A warning: this article is heavily populated by the opinion of one of the OU professors who wants to drop sports. You remember that problem they had with the professors down there fighting the athletic department. But that's not the point of me posting this here. The point is this: Also, the OU prof gets smacked down pretty hard when presented with actual facts provided by BGSU pres Carol Cartwright, who was on the Knight Commission this year.
