http://www.cleveland.com/collegesports/pla....xml&coll=2Elton Alexander wrote a blurb saying that, aside from the tournament in Florida, we're going to be playing Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Niagara, Texas A&M, Malone, North Carolina-Greensboro, St. Francis, Valparaiso, Austin Peay, Wyoming and Rhode Island.URI, Wyoming, and Texas A&M are the highlights of the schedule, along with NC State. Total, that's 13 teams we're playing so far. Only 1 spot left to fill on the schedule. Let's hope it's another marquee opponent (A Gonzaga rematch after the flight to Wyoming, perhaps?)

Are they going to be bricking over those supports or leaving them open? The supports will have a brick facade.Very cool. I was wondering whether that would happen. I think it will look much better than high schoolish all-metal stands.

Akron was recently ranked fairly high in two national ratings for the excellence of the overall athletic department. The first is the Director's cup. This ranks the overall amount of winning happening across all sports for a school. Obviously this would be biased towards schools that can afford to field more sports, but it's useful to compare yourself to other schools within your conference.http://www.nacda.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_ch...to_pdf/june29d183 Can't State 239.5097 Akron 184.50107 Miami (Ohio) 165.00115 Central Michigan 143.25141 Western Michigan 114.00173 Ball State 75.00199 Buffalo 50.50231 Northern Illinois 30.50235 Ohio 25.00235 Toledo 25.00265 Eastern Michigan 20.50Not listed: Bowling GreenRankings are out of 271. Second in the MAC is pretty good, although I don't like the idea of ever being behind Can't in anything. Need to step it up and leave them in the dust when it comes to overall sports winning. The other one was a ranking to determine the most efficient athletic department by comparing championships versus the amount of money spent.http://lsia.tamu.edu/EM-nat-champs.htm 1 Utah State WAC 2.3664674372 Can't State MAC 1.7644962503 Louisiana Tech WAC 1.5071371994 Akron MAC 1.4666797245 BYU MWC 1.4203265326 Utah MWC 1.0307533727 Boise State WAC 0.9742678998 Tulsa C-USA 0.9690799919 Miami (Ohio) MAC 0.95522178210 SMU C-USA 0.946066547Once again we're right behind Can't. Gotta do something about that.

New associate head coachGuy has worked in the ACC, MWC, and PAC-10. Here's hoping he can continue to improve this team.

Rasor's tour of the stadiumTons of information there. Lots of stuff i didn't know about, like the "interactive video system" in the suites. Very cool stuff.
-
The grass hill behind the goal at the soccer field is a favorite for the Rowdies. I think it will be the same way at the Info. If otehr students want to sit, let them have the stands. I'll be there on the hill half hanging over onto the field yelling at the team.

He got offers from Columbia and Harvard. Very smart kid.

Good Zips News, if You Like Defense

Tonga will be a junior. He went to LA Harbor Junior College. He should come in right away and make an impact. -
The dorms are built up to the third floor now. Most of the construction on the stadium is now indoors or outside of the camera's view. Don't expect the cams to remain online for much longer. They'll probably go down once the scoreboard is finished. The more interesting construction on campus now has nothing to do with the stadium. The parking deck is moving along, the lower floors of the Engineering building are being remodeled, and the dorms on spicer are steadily going up.
-
I believe that Henderson was the only real question mark in the class, and now that he's made it and is taking classes I would be surprised to see more than one or two recruits not show up.
-
Maybe officially. The players should be practicing on their own right now, organized by the upper classmen.
-
Now that camp has aparrently started, how much longer do we have to wait to see the first depth chart released? I'm mostly interested in the defense. The offense is pretty much set, I think. There are some good recruits coming in that should figure to make an impact from day one and I want to see where they stack up compared to the returning players.

OverThePylon, I'm guessing that at least one reason Temple's number is so high is because they have to rent their stadium from the NFL. That can't be cheap.
-
4,000 season tickets is still what they're saying. It's the number cited in the Yurachek articles, which was wearlier this week so I'm guessing it's still up to date. It was mentioned that it's also the most season tickets ever sold, which makes me think that the target of 10,000 was absurdly high.

Very good news, indeed! -
Regardless, the stadium is supposed to bring in enough actual revenue that Football will become profitable. The press box seats bring in $1.032 million (If they sell them all, and they're very close to doing just that, this is how much they will bring in every year) on their own plus $412k from the 4000 season tickets sold so far and an estimate of $1.44 million in general attendance (20,000 GA * $12 per ticket * 6 games [this could change if more season tickets are sold]) That's $2.884 million in ticket sales alone. Then you have concessions and merchandise, MAC TV and BCS payouts, and road game guarantees from Penn State and Syracuse. If it costs 4.7 million to run football, I say that that's pretty close to breaking even, if not being profitable.
-
10 weeks to go! 71 days until Akron storms onto the national scene and shows the MAC that they should be very afraid.
-
The revenues and expenses are the same number for the athletic department as a whole. In 2008 it was about $17 million for both. That means that over $12 million of the athletic budget was not covered by football revenues. Now basketball and soccer might also turn a profit, but nowhere near what football brings in. The rest is funded by student fees and donations. We will be much better off once the stadium opens. It will allow for a higher athletic budget because the student fees remain pretty much constant.
-
So football brought in $4.7 million last year with 11k average attendance and absolutely no luxury boxes. About $1 million of that came from playing road games against Wisky, Cuse, and ArmyThe 5th and 6th floors at the Info will bring in at least that every year, not including alcohol sales. Then you add in general attendance and concessions and Akron will be seeing a huge bump in Football revenue.

I've been campaigning for a bridge ever since UA announced that they took over management of Quaker Square. This news makes me happy. I hope that UA's engineering school wins the competition.
-
I wouldn't want that failure of a school dragging Akron down.

It's going on the corner of Spicer and Exchange, across the street from the stadium.
