Time to raise this thread from the depths. Lunardi still has us penciled in as MAC champs, but the last update was in June, and he may change his oppinion based on the always-erroneous media polls. And we moved up from a 13 to a 12 seed, which I like. There's still the entire season to play yet, but we should be favored to win it all in Alaska, and possibly be favorites for every game we play this season due to our easier schedule. With B-ball season less than a month away, what do you think? I would love a matchup against Gonzaga in the big dance. It sets up nicely with the rumored game against them next season.

That. Is. Awesome. A 22-foot Akron-alumn robot in Trafalger Square. It doesn't get any more awesome than that.
-
That spread seems about right. Sagarin has us at about 1.5 point underdogs. We would be slightly favored at home. Hopefully the Zips come out fired up and well rested. It will be a close, tough-fought game, but the Zips are playing for more and should win this one. If not, well, BBall season starts in less than a month.

OSU spends more on athletics than some state school's entire budgets. Sure, they make money, but that is because of the monopoly that they already have on state sports. It takes money to make money. And Ohio legislature won't give us money so that we can start making our own. UA has to rely on donations and research grants almost exclusively, with the rest being paid for by the students. Life is not fair, except for those who can rely upon themselves. The stadium will actually generate money from the luxury boxes that will more than make up for the costs of its upkeep. It will generate money. The city of Akron is starting to realise that investing in UA will benefit them, and will soon be a source of money as well. Some of that extra cash will go towards athletics. UA is striving to be a world-class university, with world-class academics, research, and athletics. Our fate lies in the hands of Fingerhut and his crazy shemes. Proenza has told him that there already is a world-class university in NE Ohio, and it is in Akron. Fingerhut had no idea that we had a $500 million capital campaign or just how much better we are than CSU until he came here himself.Right now, the main thing holding us back from moving foward in athletics is our MAC affiliation. We compete well and are improving in the MAC in most sports, just not football. In 2011, the BCS contract expires and the conferences will shift. That is our chance. Until then, you'll see improvements here in spite of the gluttony of excess down I-71.

I don't think it's the wisest choice, but he is tough. It's amazing. It should be a cause for the team to rally around. If they get to play in December or January, Mackey will likely get to play again.

Zippy is officialy 6-0. GREAT JOB! You know, we're doing this to prove to everybody that UA has a fanbase, and that it is comprised of the BEST FANS IN THE WORLD. Well, we're proving ourselves right, and proving the media like Channel 5 and the ABJ wrong. But just winning the mascot competition is not really enough. Monte won it two times, but I hadn't ever heard of him until this year. Now, if we can go undefeated, that means 11-0 and 3-0 in the playoffs, that would be something. It's never been done before. They would have to pay attention, and they don't, we'll show them until they realize the truth.Good voting choices GoZips88. I'll be putting in my votes after class. We need to take an early lead so that we don't have to come from behind again. That was brutal.

Buffalo gets it done on he ground. Their RB is very underrated. Stuff the box and we should win.
-
After a very hard fought battle that was waged all day long, Zippy is back on top by 34 votes. Monte is very dangerous, however, and can easily put us back down by 500 again if we don't keep voting. So all you frontrunners out there that haven't voted for Zippy because she was losing can go out there and preserve our lead. Everyone that has been voting and never gave up, kudos. You're the best fans Zippy could hope for.I'm going to soak my hands in hot water now, and then I'll start voting again during the Indians game. 500 votes is a damned hard deficit to come back from.
-
1 1/2 hours later, and we just now are within 100 votes. Come on guys. It's so close. A win this week will clinch a playoff spot. Do you want to be like the Indians and fart around when you're so close you can smell it? I know you guys are tired of voting, but Zippy needs your votes tonight and tomorrow morning, then you can relax a bit.
-
After another strong push in the last hour, Zippy is now down by 119. POUR IT ON! If you run out of names, make new ones, don't just stop.
-
A strong push has Zippy back within 260 votes. That war in between Joe Bruin and Hokiebord is absolutely killing us. If for some reason you've been holding back, now and Monday morning is the time to let it all out and get us another win for Zippy.

If I didn't have to work, I'd travel up to Buffalo for the game. I would have to find my passport first, but that shouldn't be a problem. The Zips should win barring some horrible coaching blunder. If you're going to the game, make sure to get there on Friday before 7:30 and then stay overnight because the Mens Soccer team is playing there in a game to decide control of the MAC. It is a must-win for both teams. In totally unrelated news, did anyone hear that Can't State lost Edelman for the rest of the season because of a broken arm? Both Can't State and Ohio are done for in the East. Akron, Miami, Temple, BGSU, and Buffalo are still very much in it.
-
GoZips ArticleElliot Bradbrook and Corey Sipos each had one goal, and Steve Zakuani had two. I was dissapointed in the AK-Rowdy turnout for the seniors' final home game. I'm sure that the Indians game had something to do with it, but the soccer game was over by the third inning, and at least you would have been watching a winning team on campus.Either way, The Zips seem to be peaking at the right time. They play at Michigan on Wednesday and then travel to Buffalo on Friday to battle for control of the MAC.
-
Gah! I just put in all my votes (That's several hundred of them), and Zippy is down by over 300! So much for that strong weekend we were hoping for. Also, who's voting for Hokiebird? Stop it! They are our biggest threat right now, and the close fight between him and that orange blob is really killing us. When it's close like that, neither side has given up and they keep voting to win it, while at the same time voting against us. Those blowouts in the other matchups actually help us, but close ones do not.

Ohio College Restructuring
ZachTheZip replied to UAZipster0305's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Fingerhut WON'T approve a merger inbetween UA and Can't. There's no way he would allow a university bigger than OSU. I've said it before: This is all a plan to ruin all the colleges other than OSU so that they get their "World-Class" university right there in Columbus where all the politicians live.I am very interested to hear what the CSU prez has to say. The problem is, Fingerhut is more willing to listen to him than Proenza due to political motives, regardless of actual facts. Let's hope that Dr. Proenza's speech opened up Fingerhut's eyes a little to what we have here. The PD is the one pushing for the CSU merger the hardest. The ABJ needs to start it's own campaign about keeping what we have here so we don't become just another Cleveland suburb. Too bad the ABJ has what seems to be a grudge against us. -
I'm not sure that it was Channel 5's decision this time. The game was cut off for the last minute to show tha OSU pregame in Toledo and Detroit. Not in Colombus, though. Interesting.

It looks like the USF upset was only the beginning. It's going to be another wild and crazy week in college football. Parity reigns supreme, and the media and polls either can't comprehend it or refuse to accept it. The MAC is rated ahead of the C-USA right now in the Sagarins. Imagine how they feel.
-
I'll give you half of that. We need to beat Buffalo no matter what happens anywhere in the MAC. A loss and we are out of the race. However, if Temple beats Miami, it could just throw their season out of whack, while Temple still has two losses in the division. Any upset helps us, even if it is a little bit.
-
I heard that about DiMichele. That hurts. I'm planning on voting for Zippy later today after the Men's Soccer game, during the remainder of the Indians game. I should be able to get every single one of my screennames in before 11 PM. Check to see how far up we are then. We should put Monte away for good tonight. Soccer games always spawn a lot more votes because we remind the general crowd to help. I'll be campaining a bit while I cheer.
-
This game will decide the direction the MAC East goes in for the rest of the season. A Temple win here would put every team back in the race. We only have one loss in the east and hold a win over a West foe, which will help in the tie-breaker that will inevitably happen. If Miami wins, they will likely end up MAC-East champs. Good news is, Temple is currently up 7-0 late in the first quarter. If they can hold on, we should be in good shape if we win at Buffalo.Other MAC scores: Wisconsin is already up 14-0 on NIU after only 4 minutes of playCentral Michigan is tied with Clemson 7-7 at the end of the first quarter

We have a winner! Very nice job.The Phi Delta Theta house was completely demolished yesterday, over the course of about 5 hours. The frat guys had a party and everything right outside the construction fence. Try as I might, I found out absolutely no information as to why they tore it down. My guess would be to make more parking since we are going to be in an even tighter parking crunch this time next year.

I've been finding out Can't fan's screennames that are voting us down. Here's the list (filtered, but you know what they are), and it's growing:Axemeaxemeflushfanflushyflushy1goldenflushCan't StatergoKentPolishHammerohiovarsityI think they might just have a change of heart, if you catch my drift.
-
Yeah, but if you talk to any of their fans, they "need" all that money. I mean, look at how bad they have it down there. They only have three video game consoles, and the rest of the players are forced to watch TV on their measly 56" Plasma setup. They've been improving life for their athletes. I mean, just a few years ago, the cheerleaders had to fly coach to away games. Can you imagine? How awful. OSU has a monopoly on the state academic budget. Even though they are one of only 19 schools that make a profit off sports, they get the vast majority of state funding for their programs. I think Fingerhut is trying to merge UA and CSU so that they both get run into the ground and OSU can suck up all that extra money we leave behind.
