@Legend of Zippy....though Zippyman23 is correct in part...the standard practice is that when a NBA team sends a player that 'they drafted' overseas....YES they do keep the rights to that player....it's the same thing with D-League players as well. For those players who are sent to the D-League by a NBA team, that team will have the rights to that player for the minimum of 3 years (which is the length of time for a rookie contract..with the 4th year being a team option year).
-
@Zippyman23.... THAT ^^^^^is WHAT YOU SAID..correct??!! Like I said...YOUR STATEMENT IS WRONG!! I know because it was required for me to study in my SPORTS MANAGEMENT class which is what I have my degree in!!! Not that EVERYTHING you said was incorrect...but THAT STATEMENT that is bolded...which was quoted by YOU...is INCORRECT! Not only CAN a NBA team send an American player overseas...often times THEY DO...
-
Zippyman23 unfortunately you are WRONG...when Stern negotiated the previous CBA (not the one they just signed) because it was his desire to take the NBA organization internationally, one of the contingencies that the owners agreed to, was drafting international players and leaving them overseas while sending American players, especially those drafted in the 2nd round either oversease or to the D League. This was done inorder to put the business of the NBA in the international market. With those international players...even though many of them will probably never actually play in the league, it gives the league an open door to that market....which is why if you do your research, you will find that MANY, MANY of those guys drafted last year and years before have yet to play in the NBA, but they are overseas. It allows the teams to keep that players rights without having to pay them while all along establishing a foothold in the international market. That is why you now will see more and more teams doing those "international" tours. Yao Ming is the key embassadors for the Chinese market and that is also why you have the first INTERNATIONAL OWNER ( Nets owner from Russia). Its all about marketing, expansion, money!!!! And FYI...I know all of this because I studied it in my Sports Management class.

While everyone is discussing the problem/problems as they see it...let me give you the solution. ZipNation, NCAA Basketball, NBA all knew/know/have seen and constantly critique Zeke Marshall the college player...HOWEVER...when he hits the floor on June 7 @ 9am vs Houston he will introduce you, me and the NBA world to "EZEKIEL MARSHALL" THE PROFESSIONAL PLAYER! I know many of you won't get this analogy...just watch what happens!

Hey family.....on behalf of Zeke and myself thank u guys for all of ur love and support. His journey is far from over...he already has 4 teams who want him on their summer league team. He is still NBA bound.
-
Or PERHAPS just PERHAPS his inconsistency came from him being physically and mentally EXHAUSTED after doing back to back to back workouts with NO REST except his plane ride. Hey....what a CRAZY, BIZARRE and DELUSIONAL thought that only his "mother" could think of! CRAZY ME!!!

Thank U DOC...just wanted to share this link:

Just spoke with Zeke...he said his workout at LA went GREAT!!! Said he saw Kobe (he was getting treatment)...just said hello...had to keep it movin. Heres the deal DrZ...don't take my words so PERSONAL. Like my mother said..IF SHOE FITS WEAR IT..but if it doesnt than you dont' have nothing to worry about! I never said EVERYONE ON HERE are haters..but there were enuf of them that I felt like addressing THEM! If you aren't one of them THEN WHY ARE YOU OFFENDED?!! It wasn't harsh....it was what I choose to call those who ALWAYS had something negative to say about Zeke...they were then and they are now HATERS! If you aren't a HATER...then enjoy the ride with the rest of us! Take a breathe..its not that serious! MUAH!!

Tweaked his ankle. Diss was VERY obvious...but it's all good! 1 team does not stop the draft!!! Coming down the home stretch...will be in Portland this weekend and then its a whirlwind...non stop week of workouts. He is ALMOST at the end...just have to press and not give up! 15 days and counting!! #TeamZeke
-
Lets just say that...the "buzz" is getting louder and louder about the 7 footer from UA, who didn't go to Portsmouth and wasn't invited to Chicago or Brooklyn but who has some MAJOR OFFENSE and is WAY STRONGER than PEOPLE thought! Nothing like shutting the mouths of the naysayers! Another GREAT workout in the books! Was told that he has the MOST WORKOUTS out of ALL OF THE DRAFT PICKS!!!!
-
The news keeps getting BETTER AND BETTER AND BETTER! Keep thinking he won't get drafted! Can't wait to see the look on some peoples faces in about 3 weeks time!
-
DIG...add Charlotte Bobcats June 19
-
Add Minnesota Timberwolves - June 12
-
You can add the Philadelphia 76 to the list....June 21. Lots of back to back workouts...but Zeke is both confident and ready!!!! #NBAFocused

ZipsBurgh...THANK YOU for that story! Trust when I tell you, people are TALKING, TALKING, TALKING about Zeke and how much of a "sleeper" he is! Let me reassure my Zips Family...ZEKE MARSHALL WILL be drafted NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! Here is a quote for you all to think about: "Lucas also runs a pre-draft workout group. Last year’s group included 16 of the 60 players that were selected. Among the players working with Ledo in Houston are Solomon Hill (Arizona), Zeke Marshall (Akron) and Elston Turner (Texas A&M). Lucas says what he does is tell talented, young players what they don’t want to hear." http://hoopshype.com/rumors/tag/zeke_marsh...JyeyBG7Le57d.01

Once AGAIN LZIP you speak out of STUPIDITY AND IGNORANCE...there is a TREMENDOUS buzz in the NBA circles about Zeke! Just because he was not in Chicago or certain "writers" aren't speaking about him DOES NOT mean teams are not VERY, VERY INTERESTED in him! Please keep your uneducated comments to yourself....because YOU, sir/madame don't HAVE A CLUE!!!! For you: SILENCE IS GOLDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SSSShhhhhhh....stop talking....and WATCH THE SHOW! PS: Ask John Lucas...if there isn't tremendous buzz around THE UA SLEEPER of the NBA! Oh..and while you are talking to John....why don't you ask him about the 16 out of 60 NBA DRAFT PICKS that HE TRAINED!! Check your facts LZIPS and check the record...EVERY person John Lucas has trained as been DRAFTED! Ask Tristan Thompson! Uuggghh...PLEASE GO SIT DOWN and SHUT UP!!

Okay family...I know everyone has moved on in great anticipation to the upcoming football season...HOWEVER....I hope you all haven't forgotten that you have 1 MORE chance to come and share some love, some cocktails and some memories with Zeke this coming Saturday at Primos Deli and Club in Downtown Akron for the LAST TIME! We even arranged a SPECIAL TIME of celebration for his more "seasoned/mature/layed back" fans from 6-8pm (like MYSELF..cough..cough). Would love to get a feel for how many are planning on stopping by! But to the younger PARTY CROWD...we have something special for you guys also...YOUR NBA BASH starts at 10pm until with DJ, music, laughs, memories and good fun! Can you all let me know who is coming...you all have been way to quiet..except for those of you fussing about the "LBJ gym"! PLEASE AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!

LeBron James donating $1 million to to renovate gym
FromdaBurgh replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
DIG..that is EXACTLY what I mean. It certainly doesn't hurt the recruiting process to say that your college coach also coached Lebron...it is ABSOLUTELY impressive...but again, it is that EXACT information that gets Coach D into the door and in front of kids who otherwise would NEVER consider UA as an option...but at the end of the day...when he talks about his program, his game philosophy, the team awards, accomplishments and accolades...Lebron's name is nowhere in that conversation! However, the positive of Coach D's relationship with Lebron is that it sounds good and impressive when you tell another parent who your son's college coach is connected to, I know because I've seen it firsthand whenever I used to say it! -
LeBron James donating $1 million to to renovate gym
FromdaBurgh replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
So, I was asked to make a comment about this entire Lebron/Akron discussion. FIRST: Zeke choose Akron, not because of Lebron, but because of his RELATIONSHIP with the coaches and the Computer Science program (not engineering as someone said)! SECOND: Zeke decided to come to Akron because, besides being a highly recruited 7 foot player, he saw himself being a Computer Science STUDENT on the campus of Akron. NOW....I remember when my husband and I brought Zeke up for a basketball game and when we walked into the coaches office Gloria James was there talking to him. Was I impressed ABSOLUTELY...was Zeke...NO! Here is my opinion on this matter...when Coach D told us about his relationship with Lebron...it didnt put stars in our eyes, what it did was to let us know that "THIS COACH must know SOMETHING about basketball" and so it made it easy for Zeke to buy into his philosophy, his program, his system...THAT IS WHAT IT DOES! Now, everyone on this board knows that Zeke marches to his own drum beat, BUT, the realty is most kids ARE impressed to hear that...and if many of you were honest with yourselves, if you had the opportunity to 'name drop' in a situation that would prosper you you would ABSOLUTELY do it! If reminding potential recruits of his relationship with Lebron helps Coach D to get his foot in the door and his voice heard...WHY NOT! The realty however is that when he discusses his TEAM, their SUCCESS, their FUTURE...Lebron's name isnt in that conversation! Lebron didn't win 19 straight, repeat MAC Reg Season champs, MAC Champs, have the 2x DPOY, a First Team, a Second Team, listed in Top 25 first time in history...those accolades aren't connected with Lebron, they are connected with THE TEAM! So, does KD's relationship with Lebron help get high quality recruits...I doubt it...does it open the door for him to get in and talk to those same recruits..YES..BUT...kids like Nyles and those new recruits aren't coming because of Lebron...they are coming because Akron is a WINNING PROGRAM...though...it doesn't hurt to know that at any given time during the summer...they could find themselves playing a pick up game with the 4x NBA MVP! #RealTalk -
Hey family...GREAT NEWS...for those who were interested in coming a little earlier to Zeke's graduation/sendoff party...we changed the time to a 6-8pm COCKTAIL HOUR! I know that Zeke would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see you all there. For the 'younger' party animals meet Zeke for the BALLER BASH which kicks off at 10pm! See you all at Primos! MUAH!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD...I DON'T KNOW IF EVERYONE WILL SEE THIS...BUT WE CERTAINLY WANT EVERYONE TO BE THERE! Thank Uuuuu!!!
