AmenI hate seeing other Zips fans bash each other. BuckZip, and Sgm are great Zips fans and I'm proud to have them. Although they should get heat for defending OSU in ZippyLand, they should be treated with respect. The name calling going back and forth here is a little immature. So Bobby if you were a Grad of 2 schools and one schools board was bashing your other school for no reason, you would not defend it? Remember, I didn't come here and start this. Some nube jackass had to do it.That nube jackass would be me BuckChuck, and I in no way addressed you in my original posts. You can call me a nube of course, if you consider a middle-age guy who graduated from UA in the 80s a nube. I reveled in Suckeye agony last night, and it would only have been better if the Zips had executed earlier in the afternoon. If you're really so thin skinned that you cannot bear to have your Columbus team ragged on ON A ZIPS BOARD, that says everything about you, and nothing about the rest of us.By the way, you were the one who took the discussion into the gutter by (1) telling me to "STFU", and (2) calling another poster a POS and polishing the whole affair off with lashing out at the "idiots" who disagreed with you. <<--me laughing at you, again.GO ZIPSSeeTeeZip -
Zips' Passing attack 29th

And our record is????????Soon to be 2-2. Before the first game if I had told you we'd be at 2-2 heading into the Cinci game, what would you have thought? GO ZIPS.SeeTee -
From ESPN this morning:1) Akron is ranked #29 in passing yardage in the country after this weekend.2) Akron's running attack is the 74th best in the country. This is the one offensive area where Army shines, relatively, with the 32nd most running yards.3) Akron is 65th in total points scored, and Army sits at #118.GO ZIPPERS.SeeTeeZip

P-Mac's ABJ Zips - Ball State story
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football
Dude, get off Jacq's back. He played a pretty decent game. It is absolutely true that all of the interceptions with the exception of one, were the fault of a tipped ball. As for having a fumble recovered for a touchdown, ask Todd Boeckman how that one feels (see: OSU v. OU). Those kinds of things do happen, especially given the rain and slippery conditions. The Zips moved the ball down the field with relative ease, especially in the first half, but unfortunately once they got near the red zone the receivers couldn't get a handle on the ball. Sometimes that's just the way the ball bounces. The problem is not Chris Jacquemain, nor is it the Zips offense. Honestly, I think Chris has been doing a great job this year. I'm actually very optimistic about this offense, those guys can REALLY play, and mark my words they will make quite a few teams pay this year. Your beef is with the defense and the fact is, this defense is really banged up. They're thin if not non-existent on the D-line and a good part of the secondary seems totally out of place. There seems to be no true leadership on the defensive side of the ball. We had leaders with Mackey and Corner in previous years, those guys knew how to take charge. IMO somebody on that side of the ball needs to step up and put the game on his shoulders. I'm sure I could write another page about the play of the defense but I'm not going to. I'm going to trust the coaching staff on that one, they know what they're doing, whether you'd like to believe that one or not. My only other gripe would be RACER'S inability to understand that after the period of each sentence comes two spaces and a capital letter in the first word of each sentence. Seriously man, not to sound like jerk, but I can't take a person's writing seriously if they don't take it seriously as well.... In the words of the immortal Brad Hamilton: "Learn it, know it, live it." AMEN ZippyFor President -

Actually. we can do both. The OSU frontrunning has been going on forever. It's not a recent phenomenon. I could not agree more that the Zips have been overlooked, right in their own home and by their own people, and I hate that. For those of us who attended UA and have had to listen to OSU frontrunning in NE Ohio for decades (I graduated from UA in the 80s), their is extreme schadenfreude whenever OSU gets their asses kicked. I am one of those who prays for MAC victory, any time and any place, over pretty much any Big Ten program. Part of it is love of underdogs. Part of it is pure spite for the big-name programs. Those of us who feel these ways wish for two things: an increase in prominence in our forlorn program at UA AND for many very bad, painful years for Big Ten programs. I want years where Big Ten teams get the shiite kicked out of them by some MAC schools, including the Zips. Remember the movie Breaking Away? Remember the small cutter kid who had the huge chip on his shoulder and got into constant fights with the rich university kids? If you cannot identify with that kid, if your heart doesn't sing when he kicks ass, you will never understand this dynamic. And if you don't, screw you!SeeTee Didn't see much - check that, ANY - Zips gear this morning either. And I never do. Ever. You want to talk about frontrunners? Why is it that the basketball team consistently contends for the MAC Title, yet we struggle to fill the JAR? That is, until the Can't game and MAC Tournament, when all of the "die-hard" fans come out all of the sudden. Why is it that the football team has never had good attendance, even the year they won the MAC Title? The biggest Zips crowd I saw was the bowl game, when all of the "die-hards" who couldn't travel 15 minutes to the Rubber Bowl made the trip to Detroit. This isn't to say the people on this board are frontrunners...absolutely not true. This group is the core of the Akron Zips fan base IMO, and would follow these teams no matter what. But as a whole? Zips "fans", especially the student body, might be some of the biggest frontrunners in the state of Ohio. As BuckZip pointed out, OSU sells out their games every year, regardless of how well the Buckeyes are predicted to finish or how well the season is going. Frontrunners? I call that team loyalty. But many here are bitter. Bitter that OSU's football program will always be better than Akron's. That 99 times out of 100, OSU will have first shot at the better recruit. That local media covers OSU a ton (remember too - they cover what the majority of readers want). That they consistently sell out home game after home game. So when OSU gets drilled on the road by the #1 team in the nation, many will jump at the chance with a "Ha! They got beat!". They'll bash the program for being overrated, they'll bash the fans for being frontrunners. And they'll block out that the Zips got shelled by Ball State, at their home opener, in front of 9,000 people. Maybe that "die-hard" fan base will come out again if they make it to another bowl game...who knows. In closing, remember this. For the fan base to grow, "casual" fans must attach themselves to the Zips. Many of those casual fans currently cheer for OSU, not because they are a frontrunner, but because that's what they grew up watching, and because it's the only team they've had an attachment to. And many of you bash them, calling them frontrunners as our team draws 9,000 to a home opener, or making fun of OSU losing to the #1 team on the road as Akron loses to Ball State at home.Boy..., if I wasn't a Zips fan, that'd sure make me want to join your fan base. Bitterness, jealousy, bashing someone for following a team. That'll draw em in...Instead of all of that, why not invite them to a game? Let them see our product on the field. Let them enjoy a Zips tailgate. Let them meet the great, knowledgable fans that we have. Let them get a picture with Zippy, chant Can't State sucks, or cheer and sing to Blue and Gold. THAT is how our fan base will grow...getting people to see firsthand how great of a school this is. NOT by continuing to move on with our noses in the air and chips on our shoulders. -

WOWIE BuckChuck. A little touchy are we? Why don't you STFU, you idiot POS? <<---using your own words to keep it your level. This is a ZIPS board. Take your whiny OSU manlove to a Suckeyes board why don't you? <<---me laughing at youSeeTee So you come here and make childish name calling posts. You are a big man. Suckeyes....Hahahahha, Real mature ...Cowlumbus, hahahahah-Idiot.If you think OSU fans aren't saying what you just said, you are completely wrong. OSU fans are pissed off about the lack of offense and creativity. Tressel is being questioned very loudly and has been for 3 years now.I find it amusing that even though our Zips look like crap, that you are so jealous and insecure that you get more pleaseure out of seeing someone else lose than seeing Akron win.I know, I know, now I get attacked for defending my other Alma mater when some POS has to say this BS.You want to know what a badwagon fan is? A bandwogon fan is a fan that only comes around when the team is doing well. You know, kind of like UA fans that showed up when UA went to the MCB, or showed up here only after US went to the MCB.OSU was selling out 100,000 when they had down years and were mediocre. They will continue to sell out. USC, Miami, those are bandwagin fans. However, since you are so obsessed, you don't see it. You need to get a life.Go ahead and bash now. It's the loser mentality. -
Can we all agree that once the Zips move to the new stadium it's going to have a huge effect on crowds and excitement in general? I'm an alum, live in the city, and generally HATE going out to the Rubber Bowl to watch the team. It's a depressing place, WAY too large in general, decrepit at best. It's been all of those things for many, many years. The campus has become such a better place than it was in the '80s when I graduated, and the stadium will enjoy and enhance the positives of the campus. Add to that the end of the need to travel WAY off campus and you'll automatically gain at least 2X to 3X the number of student attendees. Add to that the fact that you'll be able to buy beer in the new facility. Add to that the presence of downtown eateries and bars. Add to that the brand new facilities, better sight lines. It's all good folks. Now if we can get a little growth on the defensive side of the ball, along with some stickum for the receivers' gloves, we'll really have something!SeeTee

Racer, put down the crack pipe brother. The Cardinals passed for exactly ONE yard more than the Zips did today. Jac was 21/44 for 269, and most of the INTs were absolutely not his fault. I will grant you that he played less well than last week, and held onto the ball too long several times today. It's one thing to be emotional about the Zips loss, but it's entirely another thing to lose objectivity. After the QB play we were subjected to last year, no Zips fan can realistically be unhappy with Jac's QB play this year. Today's loss was not about his play. GO ZIPS! DOWN WITH THE SUCKEYES, down 34-3 as I type this. How's them apples Big Ten fans?

The D was frightening, no doubt, although didn't we gain 400+ total yards on offense as well? Had we not played tip drill all afternoon I strongly believe that it would have been, at worst, a tight game. High scoring yes, but tight with a chance for the Zippers to win. I think (or at least I hope!) that the offense will compensate for the awful D in many of the remaining games this year. And before we give too much credit to the Chirpers, this horrible Zips performance still netted 24 points, and should have scored many more. Bain, brother man, it's time to suit up and get out there. Before I forget, there was a Zips male cheerleader on the sideline today who was as big as many of the players. If I'm JD, and the D can't stop Army next week, I'm looking to suit that dude up.SeeTee -

Imagine a world in which millions of people who had NO connection to OSU would actually NOT be in love with them! How many NE Ohio Suckeye fans have NO connection of any sort with Columbus, the university there, and yet still play front runner to root for the Suckeyes. How many hours each week do NE Ohio sports radio talkers waste sucking up to "the vest" and that program? I truly do not understand it and never will. Disgusting, and I for one revel in Schadenfreude every time they get crushed. Maybe some of the lame Akron OSU fans, front runners all, will follow our team and engage with the Zips when they move to their new digs next year and continue to progress.Go Zips!SeeTee -
Sat in section 4 today, where some pretty dedicated Zips fans sit, including family of players and lots of boosters. Good fans all, except wouldn't you know that several Testicle Tech Chirpers in their red glory sat right behind us and chattered an awful lot most of the game. At least some of them were family of Nate Davis and at one point one of them gloated about how Nate would be in the NFL draft next year. So here are these Chirpers sitting dead smack in the middle of the Akron home crowd, full of Akron players' families and boosters, talking and chattering. As the game slipped away they got more mouthy, and one old lady in particular sported a fine tobacco-tinged Appalachian accent. This was all capped off when in the 4th quarter, as one of them made an obnoxious comment, a fan next to me groaned loudly. The old woman yelled "d*ckhead" in response. Classy, Ball State fan. Classy. I think I hate Nate Davis now.Maybe the fan scene at the new digs next year will be such that obnoxious visiting fans won't feel so comfortable pwning our core home seating areas. GO ZIPS!

This is going to be a very good offense this year. Syracuse was no fluke. If anything, today was the fluke. How many tip drills did our receivers set up their DBs on today? That's about a year's worth of bonehead bad-hands plays in one afternoon. This team still scored 24 points on a TERRIBLE day people. I do agree that the D is frightening and we'll have to see whether Bain and Co. can get on the field. Anyone who was at the game should agree that the Zips were not crushed, nor were they outclassed by the Chirpers. They simply blew good chances, good drives, made too many idiot mistakes. This is not going to be a terrible season though, unless the D absolutely falls apart.GO ZIPS!SeeTee -
Amazing how many (don't know exact count) balls were on target to receivers which were then "tip drilled" into defenders hands for INTs. I was at the game today and thought Jac didn't play poorly. His receivers deserve MUCH blame for the poor afternoon. The good news was that this Akron team was not outclassed by Testicle State. The Chirpers simply capitalized on our mistakes. Akron should rebound. By the way, was anybody else here sitting in section 4 today? Did you catch the Klassy Testicle Tech fans sitting right in the middle of the section trash talking? Some were family of Nate Davis, and WOW were they low brow. They are on track to get their asses kicked in some MAC stadium this year. Extremely unimpressive.GO ZIPS!SEETEE Didn't rain the entire second half. Ball St. managed to get good penetration and was in the passing lanes all day. Tipped passes non stop. I want to say 3 of the int's were off tips.

He sure as hell looks good out there. I was at the game yesterday and he is confident, quick, strong-armed. I can't believe this is the same kid we saw last year. I'm impressed so far. SeeTee

Traveled to the game with JohnnyZip84 and sat in the end zone with other UA fans. It really was a blast, and the disappointing UA defense, at least on this day, was more than matched by the surprisingly strong offense. Are we entirely sure that Jac is the same QB we watched last year? He looks like a different player out there entirely. Quick decision making, quick release, confident, very impressive in my opinion.Having listened to Syracuse sports talk on the drive home, it surely was nice to be the team that caused such pain and depression in an opposing fan base. We know what the flip side of that is all about! Lastly, as for the SU RB from Copley (Carter), suck it big man. You can gnash your teeth having lost to your home town team, but like another poster noted, you would rarely see the field at UA with the stable of RBs we're sending out right now. How's that, superstar? Great trip, and GO ZIPS.SeeTee

Is this my first post? Man I think it is. I'll be at the game next weekend, should be a blast. GO ZIPS! *phew* I got mine for $4 from stubhub. Whole trip is gonna cost about $300 for two ($120 for hotel, 100 for gass, 10 for tix, 70 for miscellaneous). Not bad for a Zips mini vacation. Besides Lee and johnnyzip, anyone else goin?My brother-in-law (SeeTeeZip), who is apparently too chicken to post anything on here , is also making the trip with me.
