It's a beautiful campus...it better be for what they charge to go there No, on days like this those waves crashing in add to the misery of horrible Chicago winters. I have lots of family there and consider it almost a second hometown, and IMO the winters there are worse than here. No, Lee Jackson would have most likely been a better option from a sheer misery standpoint than that field. Come on Zips! Let's kick some Mildpussy ass out there in the 2nd half.SeeTeeZipper -
As we wind down this crappy downer of a season with speculation of magical coaching decisions, hope for high-star recruiting and the gelling of the team for next year, I find myself wondering how well UA has done so far in selling tickets and ticket packages for the inaugural Zips season at INFOSUMMA. Does anyone posting here have information about how well things are going with INFOSUMMA prep on the marketing side? My own story: I, along with another Zips fan, have purchased 4 Priority Reserved seats for next year, and plan to gut-shiv anyone who gets in my way when its time to choose seats. We also plan to extensively research tailgating options and equipment. I'd love to hear any inside scoop, and/or even rank speculation, about how well INFOSUMMA is being received so far in the community. Also, what are your plans? Others here buying/bought packages, or have special tailgating or bar/restaurant plans for game days?Let the agony of 2008 begin to recede and let's talk 2009 people!GO ZIPS, AND FOR TODAY THAT MEANS ZIPS SOCCER!SeeTeeZipper, aka OBC Mug #89

I need to respond to this as you constantly rip on the Browns' fans. While I am not a Brown's fan, your logic on why they are idots is completely wrong. But before I get to the Browns, I agree about JD. He needs to change the defense from the 3-3-5 or he should get fired. The last three years have ended terribly. Going 0-3 to end the season against two very bad teams is an embarrassment. I prefer to make a change regardless, but if he makes the necessary staff/philosophical changes I would give hime one more year. The scary thing is is that he seems to be heading toward the Faust/Owens path of about 40 wins if he stays around for 9 years.Back to the Browns. Sure there are a lot a idiotic fans. But I've watched games in Pittsburgh and in Cleveland and I find very little difference in how you all act. You just happen to root for the the team with 5 SB championships. As my kids would say, big wup. Lumping Zips fans with Browns' fan makes no sense. The Zips have several hundred thousand alumni around the country and we have somehwere between 200 and 2000 true blue fans. Again, big wup.Browns' fans in general are somewhat misguided, but I do appreciate their passion. Unfortunately, this is not entirely their fault. In fact, the mere existince of my favorite college football factory in c bus actually does more harm to Browns' fans than they would ever admit to. You see, most Browns' fans are also tosu fans, even though 99% of them have no affiliation with the school. Here is how they are misled/idiots:1. McSweatervest rolls out of bed the first week of February and signs the best 18 players in the state and 4 of the best players around the country. Conversely, Crennel/Savage spend days deciding who to choose in the first round and then get about 8 good players in the draft, IF they are lucky enough to make the right selections. Talent advantage: A-holes in cbus.2. McSweatervest and the AD scour the country to find 3 or 4 of the easiest non-conference opponents to play and play in the easist bcs conference while getting to play 7 or 8 of those games at home/neutral fields. Conversely, the Browns are told who they play and only get 50% of those games at home...and there are no Younstown State's on the Browns' schedule. Scheduling Advantage: A-holes in c-bus.3. The idots in c-bus rake in $8-10 million per football weekend when all purchases and donations for football are averaged per home contest. Conversely, the Browns have a salary cap to work within, but so do the other 31 teams. Keeping players eligible and out of jail is completely funded in c-bus. Fiscal Advantage: A-holes in c-bus.When it's all added up, it's easy to see why 10 wins in nearly guaranteed in a-hole land. It's also easy to see why it's so difficult to win in the NFL and why Browns' fan have become discouraged and then act like idiots. Have at it Buckzip and sgm.....P.S. Zips soccer - 1, A-holes in cbus - 0.Mercifully, SGM has been asked to don the pointy cap and sit in the corner for a few weeks by the mods. FWIW I agree with everything you just asserted, and have an irrational distaste for ALL things OSWHO.GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZip -

Thanks for posting that Scott. Nice article, and here's hoping that the recoveries by all involved move forward smoothly.GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZip -
I've been attacking the email addresses of the NCAA officials who made the call to move the game. Now I'm tempted to do same with whomever at UA made the call, and/or allowed the NCAA to assume the field would not be ready tomorrow. Does anyone know who at UA would have been responsible for making that decision? Damn, here's hoping tomorrow kicks ass for the Zips and the attending fans. Unfortunately I cannot make the buses but wish all the the travelers happy napping on the bus, crafting of obscene and hilarious cheers for the Mildpussies, and a BIG FAT ZIPS WIN.GO ZIPS!BEAT THE MILDKITTIES!SeeTeeZip

I am torn on this one in a big way. Continuity can be a good thing, especially in a MAC where there is none. However, I am so disappointed in the way this team finished this year that I wonder how much blame the coach should take for it. I'd give him the first year at InfoSumma, but will be pissed off if we see a defense that at all resembled what they trotted out to the field this year. GO ZIPS SOCCER TOMORROW!SeeTeeZip

Is everybody still asleep from too much tryptophan? WAKE UP and discuss:1) JD-will he be back?2) Zips D-could we save scholarship money by not fielding a D at all?3) Zips O-did Jacq regress to the point of having to compete for the starting job next Spring?4) InfoSumma-how freaking cool will it be to walk up to the BRAND NEW gates at the first game? 5) Who is your overall team MVP?6) Who is your Yugo Underperformer of the year? For me:1) Yes, albeit with a decent D or we will all rise up against him.2) Tempting to think yes to this one. Can we now switch the unending Bain questions back on?3) Jacq should definitely compete against Rogers for the job next year. He was MUCH better this year, but I want to see less "Bad Jacq", or "Jacq Off" before I'll really love the guy.4) I can NOT wait to see the new facility, and to see the team run onto the field next year. I may become verklempt for a moment.5) Overall team MVP may be Lemon. I'll check back in later for my final call on this one.6) B. Williams, who did not earn full-on game changer status that I thought he might.GO ZIPS! Crush the Big 11 MildKitties tomorrow!SeeTeeZip

Bus trip details now available
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net replied to GoZips88's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Especially for students, this is a fantastic deal. A free trip to Evanston, including meal and game tickets? That's a silver lining in this tournament cloud, IMO. I may have to clear my schedule and get a spot on the non-student bus. Any posters planning on meeting up for the bus ride?GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZip -
This Zips FB team regressed like hell to end the season. So disappointing based on where we were a few weeks back. Pathetic ending when they could have made themselves bowl eligible against a team with 3 wins. Bad Jacq is very bad today.GO ZIPS SOCCER TOMORROW!SeeTeeZip

zippyrifle32,Thank you for the reminder as to why I moved from Ohio. It's only Thanksgiving and the weather is like this already. That just blows.Nice to remind most of the Zips fans, who by the way still live locally, about how much better it is not to be here. Thanks for that GP1. Great contribution. As one who lived all over the country over the last 20 years (including Northern and Southern California, where the weather is fan-freaking-tastic) before moving back to Akron and loving being back, I can say with some authority that the 3 good seasons can never be as sweet as they are in places like this, where you have a season that kicks your ass. I'm not sure where you live now, but I for one would want to live nowhere else but here, even with its warts and its winters.GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZipper

Yeah. It SUCKED to be them with that 5 seconds on the clock eh? As much as I was ecstatic with the Zips victory today I enjoyed the OSWHO agony just about as much.GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZip, aka Mug 89 at OBC -
I'm having a difficult time getting worked up for the Temple game, although it would be great to earn a victory and take a little sting off of last week's game. I'm a little worried though that the defense will fail to show up again and that will just accentuate my bitterness toward the coaching staff. Being used to sports suffering I'll listen to the game, post here and root for the Zips even if they lose, but it will surely make me feel better about JD & Co., moving into InfoSumma next year, if they can put a spanking on the Owls this weekend.GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZip

OBC is just as close to the Jack as it is to SVSM high school... in case you didn't know...I think OBC might actually be a little closer, as the crow flies, to STV-M than to LJ. I may have to stop by for a cold one or five at noon tomorrow and walk to the game! Anyone care to join me? Hopefully we won't be hit by a work day car on Market as we stumble to the game! ;) ;) ;) SeeTeeZip -

Was already downtown and parked when I learned about the postponement. Bummer since I was all suited up for the elements and the idea of playing in a snowstorm struck me as COOL. Anyway, I ended up meeting up with other fans at OBC and tipping down a few cool ones instead. Wherever the game ends up tomorrow I'll be there since I'm off this whole week.I think I'll start drinking....now.....to get ready.    KICK ASS ZIPS!SeeTeeZipper -

I will happily accept the offense as is, even with the WR drops and the occasional Bad-Jacq. I will be mightily disappointed if the D resembles this year's terrible unit though, going into InfoSumma. They have regressed if anything as the season has gone forward. GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZip
