The Lady Zips are fun to watch. They are really coming together as a team. Tecca is just amazing. The freshmen are fun to watch as well. I just hope more people come out to support them. When Niagra was here they had about a full section of supporters who really made their presence known. They were louder then the Akron fans. Seeing the Zips play a couple times now, it is dissappointing the lack of support for the girls and Coach Kest. Kudos to the fans who do show up. Whether you're a student/Ak-Rowdy, alum, faculty, whatever and have free time, come out and support the team.

I believe the game is going to be televised on SportsTime Ohio too. Don't know if I can make it to the game but hopefully the Zips pull out a victory. Be better if the Zips just put a beatdown on the Vikings.

I was moving to Ohio from California with my family and Akron was the only school to accept me. Toledo said no and Can't put me on a waiting list. I graduated in 2008 with my degree. I loved college. I enjoyed the college life more then high school. I've seen lots of changes to UA and the athletics. I've been through it all with the sports teams but to be honest, football is the most frustrating. The year we won the MAC was so exciting and gave me reason to believe that the football program would start being dominent. Hasn't been the same since. Since my family has season tickets to football, it's just been frustrating watching this team play. We had four seats, but now we might go down to two or none at all. We're still trying to decide if we want to go to the last game. I might just to see if the team can finally get a win. My family and I also have season tickets to men's and women's soccer and men's and women's baseketball. We also go to volleyball, softball, baseball and tennis. I support my school and the teams. I will be honest to say that I grew up watching the Pac-10 and still do. I enjoy watching teams like USC. I want to be clear that this is for football only. I'm loyal to Akron, but this football program is really testing me. I will not support Ohio State. I hate them. So again, I might see the last game this year versus Buffalo to see if they can win. If nothing else, I enjoy the marching band. I just hope this program gets turned and starts winning and seasons like this can be forgotten.

I 100% agree with GoZips. At the soccer party last night, he only went to certain people and interacted with them. Those people were the big wigs like the sponsors and those with lots of money. He never interacts with those of us who support the Zips but don't have the loads of money. When Mack Rhoads and Mike Thomas were here they always interacted with everyone including myself. Even JD would interact with everyone. Have not had one word with the new football coach. It's just classless to not acknowledge us diehard Zips fans who support the teams but don't have the big bucks. I guess thats the Big 11 and Notre Dame ego. At least Zippy goes around to everyone.

I don't even want to know. I think our (un)defeated season continues. The season can't end fast enough. If the Zips do somehow win, there should be a parade.

Y-M-C-A. I know teams like to have some sort of theme/motto for the season, but what exactly is Can't doing? Is their motto "Under Construction"? Maybe they got the idea from the LeBron commercial where he drives a bulldozer through the baseketball court. The only productive thing they do all season is pose as construction workers. Trying to get a job guys? I like the building a prison comment. Classic.

I was at the game last night. Another really nerve-wracking game to watch. I could tell the crowd was getting a little anxious. Another great turnout with I believe over 3,000 people. There were moments were the Zips were careless with the ball, but they hung on. The field was very slippery as players were falling all over the place. I do think games like this will help the Zips as they should know that these are the kind of games to expect in the tournament. They do need to clean up the ball passing and not make silly mistakes. Still, good hard fought game, even though Creighton started to get a bit rough in the second half. A couple of their guys got yellow carded including their coach. One of their players got red carded too. Again, another hard fought game. Keep it up Zips. Hope Kofi is ok.

Go Charlie! I hope he makes the Browns regret trading him after one start. I'm not a Raiders fan at all, but I will be this weekend.

Bunbury forgoes final two years, signs with MLS

While it is hard to see these guys leave, I wish them the best. We have other guys on the team that I'm sure are ready to jump in and start for us. I think this team is going to be motivated after what happened in the final. They know what it takes to get there. Again, I wish them luck and will be cheering for them. It'll be awesome to see more Zips in the pros. Speaking of soccer. I don't know if anyone else knows this but I heard some good news involving the soccer stadium. I guess Nike is going to play a big part in the stadium. Again, this is something I heard. Is LBJ involved in this move perhaps? Some of the coaches and players were at the Cavs game the other night getting a nice introduction. -
National Championship
zips4ever2008 replied to bUAkronG's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I've been down here in North Carolina for the Final Four. It's been a great experience, even though the weather sucked and I wish the end result was different. I am very proud of the guys even though this one hurts. I hate penalty kicks. To me, that is no way to decide a soccer game, especially one this big. I say, let the teams play until someone scores. Don't decide the game on one on one. I hate how it ended, but our guys had chances and the ball didn't go where it needed to go-into the net. Like I said, I'm very proud of these guys. They fought all the way when likely no one, besides Akron supporters, thought they make it. Remember during the selection show when we weren't even mentioned to get this far. I hope we showed people what Akron soccer is about and gained some respect. Keep your head up guys. Now you know what it takes to get here. Come back next year with a bitter taste in your mouth and be determined to go for it again. GO ZIPS! -
It is frustrating to watch this team go down, but what good is firing the coach now going to do. If they fire JD, then one of the coordinators is likely going to be the interim head coach until the end of the season when the search goes out to find a new coach. If that is what happens, so be it. Will things stay the same or be different, we don't know. Firing the coach now in week 4 of the season and trying to locate a new coach is going to be difficult with every team playing and those coaches and coordinators concentrating on their team. I guess it can be done, but I think waiting till after the season when a new coach can be greatly searched out would be the best option. You'd want to be sure to find the right guy. If this is what happens, lets hope the search process doesn't take too long as recruiting can be affected. If they do fire JD, I would like the new coach to come from a conference like the SEC, Big 12 or PAC10. Even someone from the WAC from a Boise State would be good too. Lets bring someone in who can make Akron football exciting. We sure have the facilities that are top notch, so lets find a coach who can get this team on top.

I liked the bus trips when they did them. I went with one of my parents to road games at Purdue, NC State, CMU, Middle Tennessee State, Ohio, Miami OH, Buffalo, BG, etc. Also to Ford Field in Detroit for the MAC Championship game and bowl game. Met some very nice people on those bus trips including some of the parents of the football team. One trip we had Zippy and the cheerleaders on bored. Other than some 5am departures from campus and all nighters on the bus coming back, it was fun.

Jacquemain Update & a Coach Is Suspended w/Pay
zips4ever2008 replied to psc2009's topic in Akron Zips Football
This is supposed to be an exciting time for not only football but the entire University of Akron and community and now we have such negativity going on. CJ only has himself to blame and it's a shame with him being a senior. I'll wait till I hear more about the coach to make a decision. Like others have said already, we need to stand behind this team and support them. There are other guys on this team who do things right and work really hard to be a good student athlete. I think we also need to stand behind JD. Its got to be tough with all these stuff going on. It would be great to win at Central Michigan this weekend to get some positive feeling back. LETS GO ZIPS! -
Louisville VS UIC TV Broadcast
zips4ever2008 replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I did see that game on FSC. It's channel 467 or something like that that I have. It was interesting to see a college soccer game being televised on that channel. Usually when I come across that channel they're doing international play. I hope we get a televised game. Don't know how many people would see it though. I guess some mention of Akron is better then none. This upcoming weekend is going to be huge for Akron. Our #1 men's soccer team takes the field Friday night for a huge game and then Saturday our football team takes on their first Big 11 team in Akron. Fans need to be out in force for both. GO ZIPS! -
I agree that people need to wear Akron Zips colors to the game. It annoyed me to see people wearing Ohio State shirts and jerseys to the game. I even saw someone wear a Rutgers jersey to the game. All I can say is don't bother coming to an Akron game if you're going to wear OSU stuff. Just stay home. I find it disrespectful. Just find a navy blue shirt and wear it. Even go and buy one or borrow one from your friends or family. Even have Akron shirts or something ready as people come in and if someone is wearing a OSU shirt or any other school besides the Akron and the opponet, tell them to switch. We need to be more tough on those who wear OSU gear to a Zips game and let them know that this is Akron, not Columbus. I think it would be awesome if we could do a navy blue out. Kudos to the student section. What they did was awesome and how something like that should be done. Maybe get the word out to everyone to wear navy blue for a game. Send a mass email, post reminders all over campus, hand shirts out at the gate...whatever. When other schools do it, it's really cool. Lets start a tradition like that.

I like all the ideas that have been brought up. I think it would be cool to have a big kangaroo statue in front of the stadium. Have Drum Studies design it since they are only a couple blocks from campus. When Akron played NC State, they had a really neat rock formation with a pack of wolves. Each wolf meant something like "courage", "loyalty" etc. It doesn't have to be a group of kangaroos (that would be awesome), but I just thought something like that would be neat to have. Some teams also touch something before they enter the field. Clemson touches a rock, Michigan touches their banner, ND touches a sign with a saying as they go out. There's a lot of traditions that can be started. The team does come down a ramp/maze since they'll come from the field house. Found that out from the tour of the stadium. I am excited for the start of the Info era.

Paterno pushing For Big10 to Expand to 12
zips4ever2008 replied to tbozeglav's topic in Akron Zips Football
If the Big 10/11 adds another team then someone needs to change the conference name because we'll have two Big 12s. I guess you can have the Midwest 12 or the Big-Mid 12. I still find it amusing how the Big 10/11 can't count how many schools they have in their conference. For now, I'd say we stay in the MAC and start dominating in football and basketball. We do have other sports that do well against the MAC and other conferences like track and field and soccer. Schedule teams from conferences like the Big 10/11 to see how we stack up. If we can pull some upsets aganist bigger competition, I would feel a whole lot better about joining another conference. -
Anyone here work in the sports marketing dept?
zips4ever2008 replied to vmd9's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I did intern in the athletic department but it was in the media relations area. I was in the School of Communication and they had an internship program where they would help look for an internship for you in the area you wish to go. I wanted to be in the sports area either for a newspaper, magazine, etc and they managed to have me intern in the athletic department. It's for college credit. I don't know if your particular school offers an internship program, but check to see. I enjoyed working in Akron Athletics, so if you have the chance to work there, do it. Good luck to you. -
Very impressive photo. Did you rent the Goodyear blimp to get that? Speaking of the blimp, I hope it flies around for gamedays more often then the two or so games last year. About time it flew overhead for games. Maybe we can get College Gameday to come out.

Why are you a Zips fan?
zips4ever2008 replied to ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net's topic in Akron Zips Football
Moving from California, Akron was the only school that accepted me. The five years at Akron are the best times of my life. I loved college more than high school. I've seen so many changes to the university, from the Student Union to the Field House, Honors' Dorm and now the new stadium. I was there when the AK-ROWDIES formed and it was a lot of fun cheering on the teams at home or on the road. To me, cheering on your school is what part of college is all about. I've witnessed our football team's first ever MAC Championship and bowl game appearance. I've seen our men's soccer team become #1 in the nation and dominate. I also saw the heartbreak that came upon our men's basketball team. I'm a proud alum now and will continue to support Akron. I refuse to cheer for Ohio State. -
I'll be there. I hope people come out for the last game ever. I don't see why people shouldn't. In Ohio you expect the weather to get colder late in the year. If people come out to support the Browns and Suckeyes in bad weather then why not come out to support the Zips. Just watching some college games yesterday, fans came out to fill up their stadium whether it be in Iowa, at Boston College, etc. It shouldn't matter the weather or the opponent. Football is ment to be played in bad weather. It'll be sad if people don't show up.

The Zips are in charge of their own destiny. I'd prefer they win out and not have to depend on a tie-breaker. Everything just happened to go our way when we went to the MAC Championship back in 2005. I did read in the Plain Dealer that we need Buffalo to lose either tonight or next week for us to have a hold on first place. I guess they're our closest competition for first in the east. I will be watching the game tonight to see what both Buffalo and Ohio are like. I hope the Zips take care of their own business and not have to depend on someone else winning ot losing.

I don't understand all this negativity towards Charlie Frye. He has to be the best QB that we've had at Akron. You can't deny his leadership role and how hard he played, sometimes even injured. I don't recall him ever complaining about his situation unlike most players who shoot their mouths off. I wish more players would have the heart he does. He was actually at the game when we played Cinci. It was great seeing him back. I wish we had him back since it's frustrating to watch the qb situation now. He got a bad deal playing in Cleveland. It was a no-win situation for him with the changes in coordinaters, players (how many offensive line changes did the Browns have one year) and everybody's favorite player being the back-up. I'm sorry but Anderson is not impressing me and I've lost respect for that organization years ago. I hope Charlie does well and I'm cheering for him. I want all the Zips in the pros to do well. People have their opinions, but I would think if you're a true Zips' fan that you would want our former players to do well.
