Being Gonzaga of the East isn't a likely reality unless we drop D1 football. I'd be for it, but given the recent investments in the Big Dialer, etc I highly doubt that happens by choice.
Buffalo wants this, especially McCrae. They won't keep shooting this well, but the battle in the paint might decide this one.
Buffalo is liable to turn it over more in the second half. If we capitalize on that and take care of the ball I like our chances. The bulls need hot shooting and McCrae for another 20 minutes. Fatigue may very well prevent both.
Speaking of WCC teams, Gonzaga's McCarthy center seats 6,000 and I think it's a good model for Akron:
It opened in 2004 with a cost of ~$30 mill(2013 dollars).
Combine Boise's design with a capacity closer to VCU's Siegel center and I'm happy. I agree that the angled seating looks better, but we will never be able to consistently fill a 10,000+ seat arena.
I still think 10,000+ is way too big. I don't want some cavernous monstrosity that we fill once in a blue moon(a la OhioU).
VCU's arena sits 7,600. It looked great on TV today.
They were talking about Akron for a few minutes during the VCU/Butler game on ESPN2.
The Shaka/Dambrot connection was mentioned. As well as Akron's win streak and how Akron deserves more national recognition.
I wasn't sure where to post this, but less than 200 student tickets remain for the Can't State game. A JAR attendance record would not surprise me.
But first things first....beat UB(and Miami)!
Correct. I used the word "suggested".
It's silly to even suggest such a thing after listening to a short question and answer. It seemed like a stretch.
Don't look now, but someone on the OU forums has already suggested that Kretzer would have "preferred" OU had they offered.
Good grief. I guess jealousy really is the sincerest form of flattery.
Give credit where credit is due. That was a great atmosphere. A lot of people wanted to see the top 25 Akron Zips!
And by the way, I stand by my previous statement that OU's arena is WAY too big for basketball. They can't even fill it in the most important game of the regular season vs a top 25 team during a season where they are returning from a sweet 16 run. That's the best shot they're going to have.
Frankly, I'm not too worried. We handled them at home and beat them in OT in front of 12,000 people who absolutely hate our guts.
I really, really, like our chances in a neutral court.
JSF, you are an absolute class act. I don't sense any of the snark or insecurity that seems common amongst many OU fans. Great game, and I look forward to another match up in March.
