  1. yes... this was something I noticed a while ago and have been pondering. I can't understand them spending $65million on this stadium only to use aluminum stands.Agreed. The renderings on the stadium web page don't give the impression of an aluminum structure, but maybe that's what it will be. And while the stands are not finished, from the looks of the photo they are not even fully enclosed, meaning trash and such could fall through on the concourse below. Is $65m figure just for the stadium, or does it include the residence halls?
  2. Thanks so much to both of you for taking the photos today.Looking at the close-up of the east stands, are those aluminum (or some such material) panels that are lying across the girders? They are corrugated and don't appear to be concrete, which previous posts was what I gathered the upper stands would be made from. Thanks again!
  3. Would appreciate it if someone could snap a photo of what the tower now looks like facing Lee Jackson Field. Thanks!
  4. Sad news: Former Zips running back Greg Thurman, a teacher and basketball coach at Canton Central Catholic H.S., died unexpectedly on Sunday.http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/38354994.htmlhttp://www.cantonrep.com/sports/high_schoo...nd-dead-in-home

  6. Are there going to be chairback seats? Any? All?
  7. There's a veritable convoy of trucks on the stadium floor today. Looks like they are delivering more of the precast concrete pieces.
  8. A good example for Akron to follow at InfoCision Stadium:A College Football Stadium Cuts Its WasteBy Kate GalbraithNew York Times - Dec. 31, 2008There are no holiday bowl games to look forward to this year for the University of Colorado Buffaloes, who finished a dismal 5-7.But the season may be remembered for something else – the successful first year of an aggressive recycling and composting program in their home stadium. From half-eaten hot dogs to drink cans, over 80 percent of the waste from Folsom Field was composted or recycled during the last four home games, as part of a “zero waste” effort at the stadium.Link to article:http://greeninc.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/...cuts-its-waste/
  9. Can the stadium really be seen from I-77, or just from Route 8?
  10. I believe those are the first pieces of the pre-formed concrete, as it resembles that going up on the west tower (the front pieces on the west side are tall, the next ones thin). What I'm curious about is how these are being fastened into place.
  11. Staffing appears to be back to close to normal today, with workers on the west tower and two cranes operating.
  12. Apparently a few union guys are always there protesting the use of non-union labor, so that's nothing out of the ordinary.
  13. So I log on to Stadium Cams this morning for my daily fix, and it appears that hardly anyone is working on the stadium today, and no one on the west tower. Anyone know what gives?
  14. quote]Looks like the first piece of some sort of facing has gone up on the tower structure.Better view today -- looks like the pre-formed concrete pieces that for the base for the upper rows of stands. I wonder how they are held in place or adhered together.Just saw a semi back in with what looked like another load of these pieces.
  15. NU's field doesn't look considerably better than the field at St. V-M, except for possibly a newer-generation turf. I'm eager to hear the NCAA explain this move. http://nusports.cstv.com/facilities/lakeside-field.html
  16. From Mike Rasor's blog:Zips slip past Ohio State in 2OTNovember 26th, 2008 by mrasor Men's soccerMatt Tutich scored the winning goal in the 109th minute of a game that saw Akron take 20 shots yet score just one goal.If the goal had come five seconds later, the game would have went to penalty kicks. The Zips beat Ohio State 1-0 to move to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Ben Zemanski assisted the game winner. The teams played at the athletic complex of St. Vincent/St. Mary's High School because the natural grass at Lee Jackson Field was unplayable.Akron will play host to Northwestern on either Saturday or Sunday.

  18. The field is just west of downtown (Main and Market intersection) behind the Diamond Grille restaurant and Dave Towell Cadillac. You can walk there from the UA campus is 15 minutes or less. Info and photos here:http://www.stvmfootball.com/stadium.html
  19. I've been meaning to ask this question, and today's postponement prompted me to:Is InfoCision Stadium being designed to accommodate soccer, should the Zips wish to play an occasional game there, such as an NCAA playoff contest, or should a Columbus Crew game or MLS exhibition match come to Akron?
  20. Looks like what is going up on the east side is the steel that will support the pre-formed upper sections of stands.

  22. It will feel more enclosed, just not with stands. Remember that the dorms will be closing it in partially on Exchange, and the Field House kind of provides an enclosure on the north side.Sorry if this has been posted before, but I just came across it -- a virtual tour of the InfoCision Stadium club seats that gives a good perspective on what the stadium will feel like.
