  1. We need a fourth Stadium Cam, showing the front of the tower!
  2. It's still online here.On the page, click on "Indoor"
  3. Has a decision been made on whether alcohol will be sold at the Info? According to a 2007 Buchtelite article, it's up to the UA Board of Trustees to decide.Buchtelite article
  4. Don't know the project status, but I suspect they have to step it up a notch now that the opener is back on Sept. 12 instead of the 19th.
  5. Roof being put in place on north end zone building.
  6. Yes, a design such as this would nicely complement the Info.DLR Group was the architect. DLR Group stadium pageMany more photos
  7. Nice to have some cover from the elements. Creighton soccer stadium
  8. In case you missed it, No. 12 seed Ball State whipped two-time defending national champion Tennessee 71-55 on Sunday in the women's NCAA Tournament. Until Sunday, the Lady Vols were 42-0 in first- and second-round NCAA Tournament games.Mechelle Voepel's column
  9. I would not consider two blocks away "off-campus". As stated earlier, the UA campus already has expanded downtown. Anyone remember the "Span the Tracks" initiative of a couple of decades ago? It's finally happening, to the betterment of downtown Akron, in my opinion.
  10. I see your point, but if we'd follow that logic, we'd not be getting InfoCision Stadium, because we hadn't been filling the Rubber Bowl to capacity.I like the Main Street location -- hey, UA already has crept into downtown with the Polsky Building, the former Quaker hotel and the new housing at Main and Exchange -- and offer Boston University's Agganis Arena (7,200 seats for basketball, 6,300 for hockey) as a perfect model:Agganis Arena basketball seat views
  11. From today's ABJ: ''I am not satisfied with where we are. I am a competitive guy,'' Dambrot said. ''If we can pour some money into the program and work on the facilities, I think we can become like them [Gonzaga].''So, are there any near-term plans for upgrading Rhodes Arena? This has been mentioned from time to time on the football stadium threads.
  12. Looks like a beautiful day to take some new aerial photos! Can anyone tell what they are doing on the upper east stands? Workers have been climbing around them last few days. Stadium cams
  13. Good stuff from the Washington Post.Among Akron Fans, None Stands Taller than LeBron
  14. Huggins left because the powers that be wanted to try to go big-time in football and decided to depart the Ohio Valley Conference (I-AA in football) to go independent, which left the basketball program with a much tougher path to the NCAA tournament (Akron had hosted and won the OVC Tournament to qualify for the NCAAs in 1986).Huggins recounts some of this in his book:http://tinyurl.com/cyr6cx
  15. Glen Rice, Richard Rellford and Gary Grant (Canton McKinley) from that team also went on to play in the NBA, and Butch Wade, Antoine Joubert and Robert Henderson were NBA draft picks.
  16. The game (at the Metrodome in Minneapolis) tipped off around noon Akron time, and the Beacon Journal -- which was still an afternoon paper then -- published an "Extra" edition with an article and photos from the game. Here is the box score. Akron, whose lineup included a couple of pick-ups off the football team, led the star-studded Michigan team 32-30 at the half.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?replayId=1259
  17. Akron coach Keith Dambrot's uncle part of 1949-50 scandalFor years, the NCAA wouldn't put a regional event in Portland, a policy against the state's Sports Action lottery game involving the National Football League.By Bud WithersSeattle Times staff reporterFor years, the NCAA wouldn't put a regional event in Portland, a policy against the state's Sports Action lottery game involving the National Football League. When the Oregon Lottery removed Sports Action, it opened the way for the NCAA to place this week's first- and second-round games at the Rose Garden in Portland. That might provide a haunting connection this week for Keith Dambrot, the coach of the Akron team that plays Gonzaga in the first round Thursday.Dambrot's uncle, Irwin Dambrot, was a star player for the City College of New York team that is the only program (in 1950) to win both the NCAA and National Invitation Tournament titles — back when teams could play in both.Irwin Dambrot, though, also earned a bit of infamy. He became part of a point-shaving scandal that swept through New York colleges in that era and also touched some schools in the South and Midwest.According to the book "Sports Heroes, Fallen Idols," Dambrot was involved in the point-shaving of three games in the 1949-50 season, including one against UCLA. In a scandal that also encircled several teammates, Dambrot was convicted of a misdemeanor and given a suspended sentence."He never really recovered from that totally," Keith Dambrot said Monday. "It's a sad thing. You're talking about a lot of poor people and organized crime."Read the Dambrot article.

  19. Great photo with the Skyway sign framing the west tower.
  20. Hopefuly UA Athletics is getting a handsome cut for use of its logo (or does the NCAA get all that $).
  21. Buzzer beater audio from Toledo game. Hitchen_3ptr_for_OT.mp3 Game_Winner.mp3
  22. I believe those earlier remarks were made in jest. However, is there anything new to report on what UA plans to do with the Rubber Bowl?
  23. That makes sense; they are doing the identical thing along the west sideline today.
  24. Good idea. After that, it shoud rotate among other highly populated public venues in town, such as the library and the local malls, and when the weather gets nice, at Canal Park and other summer outdoor events. Have some student volunteers or work-study kids on hand to answer questions, and a large stack of season ticket brochures. I remember back in the early 1970s when the model of the Coliseum was on display at Summit Mall for a few days. Fans flocked to it.
  25. Does anyone know if any regular-season high school games will be played at InfoCision Stadium?St. Vincent-St. Mary announced its 2009 football schedule today, and its game with Hoban -- traditionally played at the Rubber Bowl -- is scheduled to be played at Hoban on Sept. 18, the night before the Zips open the stadium against Indiana.
