I can say he did nothing regarding the indoor football practice facility. Except maybe tour it when he interviewed on our campus. It was completed a couple years prior to his arrival.I thought they just finished it? Who was his predecessor, I'll edit my post to reflect.. Thanks

http://mac-smack.blogspot.com/2009/06/want...-must-like.htmlMack Rhoades was hired Thursday as the new athletic director at the University of Houston. He had been with the university of Akron for only two years but in that time the Zips have seen improvements both in the teams that they fielded and on the field that they use.You really can't say enough for what Rhoades did in Akron a 55 million dollars stadium, indoor football practice facility. He was also in the beginning process of trying to upgrade Akron's Basketball facilities. He did this while fighting some loud opposition on Akrons campus who felt like the athletic program which was losing up to three million dollars a year was not worth a thirteen million dollar subsidy....

I had not realized I did that, nice catch as to Canada.. the market potential is huge. Southern Ontario is Bills Country and the I-Bowl sold more seats with UB there than they ever have before.I think Buffalo and Syracuse would be a great public/private rivalry. And Buff is further from Syracuse than you are from Pittsburgh so both schools have to compete with Market overlap and recruiting pressures. But I will concede that in 90% of ways its a tossup..

Akron:Undergraduates: 21,635 (Fall, 2008, all campuses)Postgraduates: 3,810 (Fall, 2008, all campuses)UB:Undergraduates: 19,022[4]Postgraduates: 9,170You cant ignore post grads which puts UB just south of thirty... But yes you guys are bigger than I thought. Still UB's endowment is 2-3* Akron's and our TV Market is only smaller if you ignore Canada but yes you're a better fit for the BE than I had though, mea culpa..

Well lets not forget the Big-10 also needs a pickup in a world of 12 team conferences.. As to Akron making it to the Big East? Its not very likely perhaps if you do manage to grow to the mid to high 20K in terms of undergrads (I think now you float around 20). But in terms of Endowment, Size, and number of programs you dont fit in with the BE. I don't think Buffalo is much more likely because while we do fit in as an institution we bump up against the Syracuse market. UB would be a better addition to the Big-10 (new state for them to be in but as close to the rest of the conference as Penn State. Then Again I really think the B-10 would go after Pitt which would open up yet another slot in the BE. If UB2020 goes through (right now the NY senate is in disarray and the other SUNY centers are doing their best impression of a toddler deprived of some toy) UB will be in a Bigger conference in 5-10 years..

Sorry but if any MAC team would make the jump to a BCS conference (like the Big East) it would be Buffalo- 28K Students, will be 35-40K (when ub2020 http://www.buffalo.edu/ub2020/overview/) is completed- 500 Million dollar Endowment- AAU member- Considered a Research University Pier by Schools like LSU and UCLAThe only thing keeping UB back is out athletic facilities (field house is in the works) and tradition....

Im talking about the MAC as a whole Akron is one of the bright spots..Ah. Sorry. I guess I should have clicked the link. I thought you linked the ESPN one where Akron is called out for supposedly having the 4th easiest OOC schedule in the non-BCS.No Prob, I did not give props in the post where it should have went, feel free to comment over there..My big thing was the FCS cupcakes and avoiding of the BCS teams... -

NCAA Round 1 Game- Zips vs. Gonzaga
Bull_In_Exile replied to pdt1420's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Great game, no shame in getting worn down by a deeper bigger team... you guys put the fear in them for 30 minutes! -
UB, BGU, and Can't all laid eggs... Id love to see you guys make a little noise...

In my experience most of the MAC fans are pretty classy save Ball State (what the hell is up their butt). I live in the real mid west (west of the Mississippi and east of the Rockies) so my contact with fans of the MAC is limited to the web but Ohio, Miami, CMU, WMU, BGU and Akron all seem to have a healthy balance between team pride and sportsmanship. I have never found a good forum for Can't, NIU, EMU, or Toledo. And Ball State fans (bsufans) are just a bunch of homer crybabies...

There is a growing grumble that Reggie cant take UB any further. Maybe having Gill in football is unfair to him as he runs a clean somewhat competitive program but the loss to you guys can be put solely on him. We were so badly out coached and rather than change the game plan he kept changing personnel.Personally I think you guys are the team to beat in the mac for the next couple of years. Between the fact you return about everybody, you're recruiting gold (#9 center! nice), and you have more big game experience than any mac team its going to be real hard for UB to knock you off your perch in the next three years. Reggie has three years left on his contract so we will see what he can do. Good luck in the tourney, drawing the #12 team in the nation is going to be a big challenge..
-
Thanks. Very classy of you. Can see this UA-UB thing develops into a rivalry with both teams returning most of their roster for the next couple years. Hope UB gets a post-season bid.IF we do it will be the CBI and I dont think we should drop 60K to host a game... Losing to BG we might have gotten the NIT but I dont think either the NIT or the NCAA will be taking two teams from the MAC... Do us proud..
-
UB came out flat last night and you guys jumped all over them, you never let them get back in. You played big in a big game and that is what champs do. Ill be pulling for you in the tourney..-BIE
-
Well it is basically a home game for you guys ...Still we split the season so lets see how the bumper match ends..
-
Not locked up but last night sure helped *allot* If Buffalo can manage the '150 foot par 7' that is EMU they have a nice pad. Like you say though Buffalo could easily lose to Akron, Ohio, Miami, BGU, or for that matter Can't in the latter part of the schedule. But as each of those teams also has to play each other there will be some cannibalism among the other teams fighting for a BYE. I think anyone, Buffalo included, running the table is pretty unlikely at this point.

USC CAL and Arizona if they win their big games in the pac ten then another bowl slot opens up...
