i'm surprised that I've not had more responses after two days which leads me to the conclusion that maybe I hit on something. Go Zips!

Well now that the smoke has begun to settle has anyone heard how the teams spirit is and how the practices have been going. We need the Seniors to step up and set some examples for the underclassmen. If ever they need to man up it is now. No excuses attitude( when actually there's a ton of them) This can either make them stronger or they can chuck it in,let's hope for a stronger. Who's getting more reps at RB and QB? Go Zips!!

There is no question that Rodgers is not a D-1 QB, his throwing motion will tell you that, and the running game had better get it together or we are >>>>>> let's all face it Rodgers is a good running QB at best. Akron is in for a world of hurt if they let Rodgers play QB. He's just not a Div. 1 QB ,bottomline. I say are window of opportunity is closing.Go Zips!!

What I've observed this year is not the coaches but the players. We've had a knucklehead QB who was totally selfish. The backup QB is at best a Div. III QB and the players are now starting to make excuses. The coaches need to change personel and recommit themselves to maybe a different style of play. The players need to take this personally. The coaches can scheme all they want to but in the end the players need to man up and take charge. Go out and kick some ass.Go Zips!

Let's Hope Zeke Marshall Isn't a Football Fan

Have you graduated yet? If you have you should apply to be a featured comedian next year.Rodgers does not suck. He has no help from his receivers(see Bowser pulling a Braylon Edwards in the first half) or his o-line(see the 0.3 seconds he has after the snap before the pocket collapses). There is a reason he was second string behind Jac.Oh let me get this straight we lost the game because Bowser dropped one pass... -
No brainer, Nicely should start his career!
-
Apparently you didn't watch the same game, Mrs. Nicely.FYI, Rodger's passer efficiency rating for this game was 119.31, and that doesn't take into consideration the two touchdowns he ran for. What does that take into consideration? The 0 interceptions he threw. This game was lost by our defense, there's no doubt about that (they could have put up 55 points on us). It's nearly impossible to overcome that sort of point value. You also have to consider that we didn't just play any team. CMU is traditionally a good team. Do you remember what they did last week? Upset a Big 10 team come to mind? They are probably still playing off the high from that victory.Rodgers has some potential. Give this sophomore some time to develop (and get rid of all of those screens!) and you'll see more improvement on top of what we saw today.Develop! Look at the way he passes the ball, he's not the answer period. He looks to run first and can not throw the ball down the field Mrs. Rodgers

I'm embarrased

Rodgers didn't look absolutely terrible. He had a great pass to Bowser that was dropped, and when the coaches had him throwing downfield at the end of the game he made some really nice passes. Both touchdowns were scored by him running. Does he have things he needs to improve on? Yes. I understand it was crappy weather but you can't keep dropping the ball like that. On the plus side he threw 0 interceptions vs. a very good CMU defense compared to 4 against Indiana last week. Those short little dump passes were absolutely terrible, but then again, why are the coaches calling the same plays that have him throwing to receivers behind the line of scrimage? Regardless of whether they catch them or not the play isn't going to net any yardage. Why call for Rodgers head when the playcalling and O-line both drastically need to improve?Wow! did you watch the same game Mrs. Rodgers
-
If they are going to make him run the same BullShip plays it doesn't matter if Joe Friggen' Montana is back there. This is getting embarrassing and I feel for the talented players we have out there.Rodgers can't make the throws, he's a RB/LB at best
-
I watched another terrible effort from Rodgers, if the coaches have any brains they need to make a decision. Rodgers is a smart young man and he can run the ball but he can not throw the ball. If they do not make a change at QB we will not have a chance to compete. He actually dropped two balls out of his hand before passing and fumbled. WOW! If they don't change things they deserve there demize. Nicely has all the intangibles, size ,brains and big arm who actually looks like a QB. Good Luck Zips!!
-
please do not...it ain't rodgers fault...the pattern has been the same for THREE years...coaches don't put players in position to succeed...maybe the next bunch of coaches can...It ain't Rodgers, just by that qoute tells me you are not very knowledgeable, he is not a QB. If I can see it why can't the coaches bite the bullet.

Quit hating on JD, he has passion unlike a few players that have tried to bring him down and some fans also.. -
Best post since I've been here, I'm behind JD 100%, he's worked and sacrificed to much for a few losers to wreck his party. Support our head coach and try to understand the dilemma he's in. Go Zips man up!!

Let this be a reminder to everyone that the decisions you make not only hurts you but your family, teammates the community and your fellow students. I hope CJ gets some much needed help. For every action comes a reaction! We all need to focus on the positive and put these distractions aside, we've got plenty of season to right the ship. JD is not the problem,at the end of the day players need to accept responsibility. JD addressed the coaching problem with hiring two good coaches in Harris and Montgomery. Go Zips!! -
When can we view the next uncomfortable youtube post from the AD,JD&Caleb talking about the last week to forget??
-
I totally agree, cmu can be had if we go in there with the killer instinct and not woe is me attitude. We need to go punch them in the mouth. Hopefully are offense can put some numbers up. Go Zips!

Thank you Dave. I have some news for some of you...I know some people who've seen Nicely play in high school, and they aren't really impressed with him...especially when he played against good competition. I urge everyone to relax. We all wanted to see Rodgers play....now please let him play. We should be getting a great chance to see what he has over the next several weeks. For the most part, I think Matt had some timing issues last week. Threw too late or too early in a number of situations. A hallmark sign of someone who hasn't played much. i'm sure he'll work to clean that up.I also have talked to people who,ve watched and said that his O-line was not the best and he was running from pressure and as for timing issues with Rodgers come on throwing wounded ducks into double and triple coverage is not gonna get the job done 4 ints.Next several weeks are you kidding me by that time you can put a fork in our chances for a MAC Championship. Go Zips!
-
Not that we can know right now, but what if Nicely gives us a better chance to win the MAC than Rodgers does, why redshirt him? What are we waiting for? He is JD's recruit, doesn't JD NEED to win now? I do like having Walt Harris with us to help this evaluation.I totally agree, we need to win and if Nicely gives us the better chance we play him. I think he definately gives us a better chance what with his size and athletic ability. The Coaches need to address the situation and make a decision or the season will be very unbearable. Go Zips!!
-
Put someone who knows how to run it,,,
-
OK listen up... I will say at nauseaum that the coach does not play..we all sit back and criticize about the play on the field which is our right, but we need to keep in mind that we don't have a QB and let's face it, that is what will get you to the next level. We lost our's to selfish and stupid judgement. JD has nothing but the best intentions for us and we need to support him and the team. Go Zips!
-
It's not JD's fault...Ask CJ...
-
If we lose the next couple, should JD be let go mid-season?
tim123 replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
JD is not the problem, he has more enthusiasm than most coach's I've witnessed. He is a true leader of young men and if you don't believe it ask some of the players. He got stuck with a knucklehead QB and a bad backup. Nobody wants to win more than him. He's proven that by going out and getting some quality coaching. At the end of the day the players must make plays. Go Zips!!
