  1. I'll take the over. LOL. How about almost 6 years? They would still be on if it wasn't for the three timeslot changes. The first because Jay Mohr got pissed because his show was being pre-empted by these locals. Then again because the radio station finally figured out nobody wanted to listen to Jay Mohr at any time. Then they moved them again to open the drive time slot for Mark "Munch" Bishop. Munch's schtick got old on WKNR and he was demoted to 1000 watt (that's not a typo) KNR2. That put Big Time Sports up against Ken Carman in 92.3 The Fan, who has a big following. You know, the same Ken Carman WARF forced "the Fishhead" on even though the twoi hated each other? Then fired Carman for a syndicated national show nobody heard of? There's some real dumbasses running that station. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. Not the most listenable couple on the radio, but had great coverage of local college and high school sports.
  2. I got home from work and couldn't get the stream to work. First time I've had trouble with E3 in awhile.
  3. Nice to see some people have come back in from the ledge. Fun game to watch, still room for improvement. But it's hard to argue with 2-0 in the conference.
  4. It could be worse. We could be the Browns...
  5. Zips win!!! Somewhere iCoach is proud
  6. ...if it ever ends
  7. And the stream is down. It's only fitting.
  8. Nice Pick-6
  9. Well that didn't last long...
  10. Now we're in the driver's seat...
  11. This is what happens when a stoppable object meets a resistible source.
  12. Jeeezez...
  13. You guys who get to travel a lot have a whole different perspective of the area than those of us who never leave the Rust Belt. Even on vacations we go to Tennessee or Kentucky, next year Michigan on our annual NASCAR trip. This sort of thing has a "normal" feel to it for a lot of people.
  14. Try a video grabber on your PC. I haven't tried one yet, but I need to,
  15. I use ChromeCast. plug it into a slot on your TV, then anything you bring up on your computer goes on your big screen TV. ESPN3, YouTube, other streaming services. Or you can watch it on a tablet or notebook if you're doing something else (using the rest room, putzing in the garage or basement, sitting outside on a nice day...).
  16. How deep do you go? When the Sweater Vest went down in flames, Gene Smith and the Bowtie walked away scot free. But does anybody on this forum or anywhere else really think these two REALLY had nothing to do with that? Gene is still there, pocketing $1.5 mil a year, Gee would still be there if he hadn't shown his true colors. Still, WVU caught his fall to the tune of $3/4 mill... At Penn State the old boy club got what they deserved, but did anybody above them take part in the cover up? And who hired the kiddie fondlers and the secret keepers in the first place? Penn State got hit hard, but it was hardly a death penalty, more a chance to clean house of all the sludge out of the system and start building a playoff-contending program. Something JoPa hadn't done in 17 years. So yeah it was a rough couple years between bowl games, but... I'm not seeing the punishment fitting the crime in any of these cases. Pitino falls on his sword, the program gets some wins "vacated" () the AD throws him under the bus and keeps his $1.4m salary. The president pretends to dust the dirt off his sleeves and moves onto the next topic. A handful of "students" get their payola and schollys taken away, probably go to another contending program, and start. The other handful of "student" athletes may miss out on the Dance. While getting more playing time. And 10 years from now, it'll be another program (maybe coached by Pitino) getting their hand slapped too.
  17. Interesting question. Was he a violent man because he was a football player, or was he a successful football player because he was a violent man? Can the family sue the Patriots and the NFL without pinpointing when he developed CTE? Was it in high school? College? Was he in a lot of fights outside the sport?
  18. We know that soccer players do suffer from concussions, we don't know how often. They're not going to say anything that might get them pulled from the game. As much of a worldwide sport soccer is, it surprises me that it's not being studied further. And it's ironic a lot of parents are pushing their kids toward soccer as an alternative to football, in part because of the media, it might not be a hell of a lot safer. There definitely is a strong correlation between post traumatic symptoms among football players, and the evidence with the CTE testing is further proof. I've seen people question the use of steroids and PED's, or drugs. But we don't see the same tendencies in other athletes. That probably is the reason the spotlight is on football. The sheer numbers, and the violence involved. It's a risk-reward type of thing. Being a football player in school, a race car driver, firefighter, etc there is a thrill involved, and part of that is the risk. There is a goal that you are working toward and a feeling of accomplishment if you do. But there's also that chance that things could turn out bad. Which is a thrill for some in itself. Another lure is the comraderie among football teammates and firefighters that I have not seen anywhere else besides the military (I wasn't in the military FTR). But that's another subject. Or is it? Maybe that all comes from the same part of the brain. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
  19. I took a break from the forum (and the U) during the Scar era, so we haven't taken a look at what Zips alum have been doing in the pros lately. SP Chris Bassitt (2011) had five starts this year for the A's, going 0-2 6.11 before being shut down for Tommy John surgery. He hopes to recover in time for Spring Training. OF Devon Ahart and OF Joey Havrilak are playing independent league ball, hoping for another shot at the majors. SP JT Brubaker went 7-6 4.44 for AA Altoona. I didn't catch him at Canal Park.
  20. This format is actually very similar to the one I laid out when the program was cancelled. What's missing is to get other schools to join in so there's competitive balance. What it needs is a conference of cold weather baseball programs from the same area, some MAC East teams, YSU, a revived Clevaland State and Duquesne, and maybe some other programs that don't want to spend millions chasing the dream of a Superregional asskicking. Play less games, or play more games per week and start later in the year (April). No long travel trips to the Sunbelt. No shovelling money into the program (like the other sports) chasing a dream of someday competing against the powerhouses. And you're playing other D1 schools. All it takes is a change in how college $port$ are run. If this "self sustaining" method does come into play, I bet other schools will be watching closely. If it works, this idea might just happen.
  21. So, it sounds like our marketing "effort" is only going to get worse as well. Sadly baseball has no effect on getting a new basketball arena, as it is dead in the water either way. Hindsight being 20/20, it should have been done at the same time as the Info, maybe at the expense of the five story monstrosity that pretty much sits empty on the home side. The economy was better, potential sponsors were at least approachable, and the bottom hadn't publicly fallen out yet on extravagant spending at the U. Now, it's a pipe dream. And the poorly worded downtown arena bill that was publicly crucified by the citizens killed any chance of the city helping fund one.
  22. The biggest problem with the research is that it ONLY DEALS WITH FOOTBALL. So we have all these parents who mean well, who put their kids in soccer or baseball or volleyball, let them ride bicycles or horses or skateboards, drive cars, and do any of a number of other things that cause concussions. Is there a research program on concussions from repeated headers in soccer? Beanings in baseball? Is ESPN doing documentaries on the serious head injuries from hockey? No. Someone has a hard on for football, and skewing the research. Personally I've had worse symptoms from firefighter training accidents than my years playing football. Where's that research? How many fire dogs have been diagnosed with PTSD when it's really physical trauma?
  23. If it's like when I went to school 5-10 years ago, it's fromthe sale of text books.
  24. I am excited to see baseball return, the press release was very interesting, and a lot of things could (should) change between now and then. The first oxymoron is the term "fiscally responsible". Sounds great in theory, but we're talking about major college sports. There is no such thing outside of say, an Ohio State. Right away they're holding the program to a standard that no other program is held to (or could dream of attaining). Let's be honest here. And does "fiscally responsible" mean no travel to the Sunbelt in March? You know, like Softball does? The next point is non-scholarship, or only scholarships that are outside funded. That's great. But in the next breath, he wants the program to play in the MAC. Where the typical program has 6-12 full scholarships. So, we get our asses kicked every game and nobody wants to watch. Me personally, I would either fund the sport like the rest of the MAC, or stay in our lane. I'd much rather play the Malone's and Woosters as a non-scholarship sport then try to play the funded Eastern Michigan's and Northern Illinois'. Some think that's below Akron's status, but they are the same people who don't understand college baseball to begin with, so who cares what they think? They won't come watch us play WestCentral Nowhere State anyhow. Quick question, does the MAC have a Mercy rule? Canal Park. Great idea. I always thought that was a missed opportunity. But you put a lousy product in there, you could play in heaven and nobody would care. Another note, we're only going to recruit in Ohio? First do you really recruit if you have no scholly's? And if you did have them, do you want to limit your recruiting to a state with more scholarship programs per capital than anywhere else? Is a kid from, say, Cincinnati that much better than one from say Hermitage Pa? What the hell's the difference? I'm excited, yet I see so many ways the University can FUBAR this to unimaginable new depths.
