COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew Captain and Midfielder Darlington Nagbe announced today that he will retire following the Club’s competition in the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs. Nagbe – a four-time MLS Cup champion, 15-year veteran and three-time MLS All-Star Game selection – has served as the Black & Gold’s leader on and off the pitch since 2020 after tenures with the Portland Timbers (2011-2017) and Atlanta United FC (2018-2019). He helped inspire the Crew’s journey to winning two MLS Cups (2020 and 2023), Leagues Cup 2024 and the 2021 Campeones Cup, as well as guided the organization to its first Concacaf Champions Cup Final appearance in 2024. Sad news (for us fans) Darlington (among other future pros) was in college the same time I was and I followed his college and pro career. It’s a sad day for us fans, but he’s ready for the next step. Retirement. Congratulations on an awesome career.

At the time the Dialer was being designed, the economy was a LOT better than we will probably ever see again. There were decent crowds at the Rubber Blow, the team was competitive and we thought they would be much better at a shiny new on campus stadium. The AA minor league ball team was setting attendance record at their downtown ball park. Huge improvement over Thurman Munson Stadium. Enrollment was up, as we found it was a scam to get kids in college. Whether they were capable of passing college or working on a degree that actually had demand. Locals with cloudy memories of rock concerts at the Rubber Bowl. So yeah, we all thought fans would show up. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I can see the Vikes playing in the Auditorium now. But how in the world are they going to put a regulation pitch (330’ X 80’) in a 112’ by 121’ space? I mean, it worked out well for the old Cleveland Crunch indoor team (200’x85’). But a full pitch? What am I missing…

Is the Cavaliers minor league team still playing at the Wolstein Center? I haven’t seen them since they played in Canton.

Sitting here watching the Worthless Nuts run up 70 on Grambling State and Nine different players crossing the goal line. Let’s see if we can hold them to, maybe, 60? Grab a pick six? who cares, it’s payday. Right?

Nursing remains the greatest need in the professional careers. That’s certainly true in NE Ohio and facilities want BSN’s. A lot of experienced nurses are taking their BSN’s and going into management. Or becoming nurse practitioners. That leaves holes in direct patient care.

A few years ago, I brought up the Rubber Ducks, who play less than a mile away (a 20 minute walk) from campus. If you haven’t been to a minor league game, they keep fans entertained. Games, prizes, T shirt launchers, stuff for the kids (get ‘em interested early). There’s games and videos on the Jumbotron when there’s a lull. It’s often silly but in engages fans. There are simple ways to engage the fans that doesn’t cost a whole lot.

Empty seats don’t absorb noise.

You better watch. I brought this up maybe 10 years ago and found a burning cross in my front yard.

Look at the positives here. for one they’re saving a lot of money on fireworks.

Looks like Cleveland State is getting a new pitch. https://neo-trans.blog/2025/08/28/csu-may-repurpose-wolstein-center-as-soccer-stadium/ One question. Where would Vike’s basketball play?

Agreed. It’s hard to keep up with all of the hands in our pockets.

Max Greenfield @GreenfieldMax18 JT Brubaker hadn't thrown in a game in 3 years and just threw 2 shutout innings to complete the win for the Yankees. No matter what happens, he can say he came back and threw on a major league mound. Really cool man. That's why baseball is the best.
