  1. But the condescending nature of your posts have certainly not eroded. That's pretty much all you provide to the discussions on this forum these days, which is sad because you offer good insight when you want to and are capable of so much more. Maybe you need to take your own advice? You are correct on Roberts (personally I forgot about the details of his walk-on/scholarship status) but you can't just be correct, you have to throw it in people's faces. I'm not sure why, but it's not a good look. I'll probably get warned or banned for this post but someone had to say it. Hopefully the overall discussion picks up here from everyone - it used to be one of my favorite sites to come to. See you all at the Info in the fall.
  2. Beat me to it. Roberts was non-scholarship his first two years and was a huge contributor to the program.
  3. P.S. I think we can close the book on Abreu.
  4. Updated Look: Returning Scholarship Players (12) C-Pat Forsythe C-Isaiah Johnson F-Demetrius Treadwell F-Nick Harney F-Kwan Cheatham F-Jake Kretzer F/G-Reggie McAdams G/F-BJ Gladden G-Deji Ibitayo G-Nyles Evans G-Carmelo Betancourt G-Aaron Jackson Scholarship Commitments (2) G-Jimond Ivey G-Antino Jackson Walk-Ons (3) G/F-Christen Wilson G-Malcolm Walters G-Darius Hoisten Interested In (1) G-Noah Robotham
  5. Isaiah Johnson started the final 11 games as a true freshman and played very well. Jake Kretzer and Reggie McAdams were key contributors as true freshmen on a MAC Championship team. Demetrius Treadwell played pretty well as a true freshman. No huge impacts, but with talent and depth like the Zips have, it's not easy for a true freshman to make a significant impact in year one. I'm sure BJ Gladden would have started for a few MAC squads this year.
  6. Haha no problem I'm just joking with ya.
  7. According to Verbal Commits, 2014 Durango (NV) G Darryl Gaynor, Jr. has committed to San Jose State. The next day, Robotham tweeted this: @NoahRobotham14: Safe to say I'll be signing before May 21st!! Can't wait for the next stage of my life It seems like he might have made a decision. If you believe the previous report of his final three, it seems like he'll be playing for Keith Dambrot or Jim Christian.
  8. Obviously if Robotham signs elsewhere this is all for nothing but if he does sign, someone else has to go. I'm not saying he is leaving, I'm saying that would be the perfect scenario in my eyes. Nothing against him, I just can't see carrying three PG's and Robotham seems good enough (and possibly the best fit) to start right away and Betancourt would have the most value off of the bench.
  9. I'd guess the same given they are still going after Robotham.
  10. 2013-2014 Akron - 21-13 (12-6), 95th RPI, Lost in Semi-Finals in 1st Round of Conference Tournament (Other Notes: Three NCAA Tournament berths in last six seasons) Boston College - 8-24 (4-14), 267th RPI, Lost in 1st Round of Conference Tournament (Other Notes: Last winning season came in 2010-2011) San Jose State - 7-24 (1-17), 316th RPI, Lost in 1st Round of Conference Tournament (Other Notes: Eighteen years since last NCAA Tournament appearance) Akron returns every player but one and Robotham could start as a true freshman. I obviously have bias, but it seems like an easy decision to me.
  11. Perfect scenario would be Evans leaving and Robotham committing. C-Johnson/Forsythe F-Treadwell/Harney/Cheatham F-Kretzer/Gladden G-Ibitayo/McAdams/Jackson G-Robotham/Betancourt If Robotham is the real deal, that's a pretty damn good team.
  12. So here's what we're looking at right now: Returning Scholarship Players (12) C-Pat Forsythe C-Isaiah Johnson F-Demetrius Treadwell F-Nick Harney F-Kwan Cheatham F-Jake Kretzer F/G-Reggie McAdams G/F-BJ Gladden G-Deji Ibitayo G-Nyles Evans G-Carmelo Betancourt G-Aaron Jackson Walk-Ons (2) G/F-Christen Wilson G-Darius Hoisten Confirmed Commitments (2) G-Jimond Ivey G-Antino Jackson Interested In (1) G-Noah Robotham A few thoughts... The Abreu ship seems to have sailed. I suppose he could still walk on, but it sure doesn't look like it. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. Hilltopper speculated that Ivey will probably grey shirt, which would open up the lone scholarship for Antino Jackson. However, it seems like Jackson would likely redshirt and wouldn't provide the immediate impact Dambrot has made no secret about finding. Adding further to that is that the Zips have still shown heavy interest Robotham even after the Jackson commitment. It makes me wonder if someone might be leaving the program. We know Nick Harney has had off-court issues and Nyles Evans never really fit with KD's offense. Just speculation on my part - it's just curious to me that they've given the only scholarship they have to a player and still seem to be pursuing Robotham, who isn't going to settle for being a preferred walk-on.
  13. I think that pretty much falls in line with my opinion of LeBron's impact. I obviously don't think it hurts at all to have the best basketball player in the NBA associated with your program. I also don't think LeBron is actively assisting in recruiting or that any recruit would list LeBron's association with the program in their top five reasons for coming to UA.
  14. I think the argument was minimal impact, not no impact...and this is minimal impact. When he helps land a major recruit, I'll buy in.
  15. Saul Phillips is the new OU head coach
  16. I don't think QuickZips was saying that KD should be immune to criticism. I think the bigger point he was trying to express was how lucky we are to have an outstanding head coach who isn't looking to use us as a launching pad to another job in a few years. It helps the system, it helps the players, it helps recruiting - it's a luxury this program has that few others - in any - in the MAC have. We've seen Gary Waters, Stan Heath, Jim Christian (twice), Geno Ford, and John Groce all use their MAC success to bolt to other programs while Dambrot has stayed committed to the Zips and this program. Again, it doesn't mean he's immune to criticism...but I do think it's something that isn't appreciated enough around here at times.
  17. Yeah I've got to say, the MAC marketing department is struggling. Not much out there about Khalil Mack either. The marketing department pretty much starts and ends with Jeremy Guy's Twitter account. He's good, but you can't rely on one guy on Twitter with 5,100 followers.
  18. My thoughts are with you and your family.
  19. For me the debate comes down to the 2006-2007 team and the 2012-2013 team. Yes, the 2006-2007 squad didn't even win the MAC (Damn you Penno) but that was a hell of a team. I think I'd have to go 2012-2013 though - the win streak, the Top 25 ranking, the MAC Championship thrashing of OU...the season ended in embarrassing fashion, but I still think that was the best Zips team of all-time before Abreu messed up.
  20. As we've reflecting on the Zips program and what it will take to get to the next level, I can't help but wonder if KD and his staff DID build a team to make that NCAA Tournament run we've all been longing for, but off-court issues didn't allow it to happen. That team went 26-5, won 19 games in a row, earned a Top 25 ranking, and won the MAC Championship - and did it without Alex Abreu for the final game, MAC Tournament, and NCAA game against VCU. It also did so without Quincy Diggs, the reigning MAC 6th Man of the Year. How good would that team have been had Diggs and Abreu not gotten themselves into trouble? Did KD and Company build the team we've all been clamoring for but never had a chance to see it come to fruition? C-Marshall/Forsythe F-Treadwell/Harney F-Gilliam/Kretzer G-Walsh/McAdams/Ibitayo G-Abreu/Diggs/Betancourt On paper, that team would have been good enough to do some damage. I know some prefer not to look back at the past, but I'd be curious to hear other thoughts on what might have been for this team. Sadly, I feel like we might have missed our chance to make some national noise and take "the leap" we've been wanting to take for years.
  21. So what do you all think on how Gladden, Jackson, and Cheatham will fit into the plans for next season?
