  1. I'm gonna have to agree with everyone and say Akron (as well as K.S.U.) will be staying put. Lets be honest, our schools would have to go on an absolute tear with football or basketball. We both already have good b-ball programs but that's still not elevating us to a different conference yet. Our traditions, expertise, and rivalries are in the MAC. This conference can be exciting in football again if we all made Saturday afternoons "a big event" again, like the B1G and, heck, even the Big East do. Thoughts?
  2. I think they should rename the M.A.C. Center as "the springboard". I don't even know how the program stays at the level they do while these others schools keep plucking our coaches.
  3. Take it easy Captain, breath. For some reason I thought it was unique and the intern and I were just joking around, nobody was ganging up on anyone else. This was a conversation post.
  4. the eagle is Flashes 2.0 and I suppose you could ask Iowa State the same question as to why our birds have teeth. Rare.
  5. Great question, the history has many twist and turns. The name was first suggested in the 1920's by students, it replaced the animal that an early Can't State president raised on his farm...Silver Foxes. The Flash was represented by many things like a Golden Retriever, a Thor-like man with lightening bolts in his hands riding a noble steed. Then in 1985, the Golden Eagle flew in for the rescue. Boston College athletics, at the time, were called the "Golden Eagles" and instead of a name change K.e.nt decided to retain the original name with an appropriate mascot. Since that time, the golden eagle has been the official bird mascot of the "Golden Flashes"
  6. Thats the way of it. I just surprised me because of its uncommon nature.
  7. Well I'll be damned.. A nice intern (an Akron undergrad) in our office by the name of Rebecca actually took time this afternoon to research and tell me where the "Zips" team name actually originated. Our discussion started as one the typical "What's a Zip?" "Whats a Flash?" kind of teasing until we both had to do research to figure out how our respective universities settled on, lets face it, not so common mascots. If any die-hard on this board knows the TRUE origination of the Zips name I'll be duly impressed.
  8. You think that's bad? Sports Illustrated came out with their NCAAB preview two years ago the referred us as the "K.e.nt Zips" I immediatly tossed it back on the shelf
  9. Both of our fan-bases may grind our teeth and put on a sh*t eating grin as we painfully wish each other well...we both know that is a lie. Secretly we're both hoping the other trips up. BUT... The fact remains that whether we like it or not, the M.A.C. needs to stick together and hope for a good conference showing. (Yes, that goes for both Portage and Summit county) Here's to making waves in tourney season. <-- Lets show 'em we're anything but "mid-major"
  10. Congratulations and good luck in the tournament Make the MAC proud and give Notre Dame (maybe?) a run for their money. See you next year. The better you get, the better we get.
  11. K.e.n.t State -- bad stadium Akron -- even worse team ...Call it a draw, at least we can fill our "sh*thole" stadium
  12. Fixed my hasty (and embarrassing) spelling mistake, now i'm just going to do what Washington does by denying it and pretending it never happened. Lest we forget the Akron student section once mispelled "Throw" by spelling "TH_OW" on a giant banner. PROOF -----> http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/gr...gid=11279643708
  13. I know i'm going to crucified for this but... Enjoy, Zips http://www.flickr.com/photos/29743439@N07/...ith/5066191891/
  14. We'll be having our Wheel back this Saturday, thank you Don't blow a gasket, I'm just stoking the coals of a heated rivalry.
  15. We fans in the MAC can solve attendance issues by ignoring the footprint of the conference we're in, the Big Ten Conference. Lets try and forget about the Buckeyes game (even though this is Ohio) and do what the other 1-AA schools do. The smaller FCS schools just say "Who cares if we're not one of the 'Big Boys' of college ball, we're gonna pack the stadium for our games and scream our asses off like we're playing in the Rose Bowl" MAC football can be great but our athletes need the support to get up for big games. Start getting the mentality that MAC schools dont just go to BCS opponents stadiums for an ass-whooping and a big check...they go to play...and win. This is something K.e.n.t and Akron fans can both agree with.
