Skip, Antino got the T because he "not so gently" placed the ball on the back of the Buffalo player that was already laying under the basket. He probably would have gotten away with it, but the ref was standing 2 feet away. Not saying it was a great call, but I think it was justifiable.

Bobby has matured, I didn't hear him yell Bullsh!t until late in the game. But, truthfully, he has grown up a lot since last year. Dambrot was correct, he won't be at Buffalo for long. He's a coach on the move.

Hate is way too strong a word. He's that little kid who always got his way and does a really great pout when he doesn't. I actually enjoy his show at the JAR because it energizes the U of A fans. And I'd still love to see him get a T.

I would be very happy to see Li'l Bobby lose it and get a nice T.

Can't wait for another article about how our foul shooting really isn't that bad..
-
Not to mention the older faithful being faced with 50 steps as soon as they walk in the door. We would need a bank of elevators to handle people who physically can not walk that many stairs.

Yes, I do realize what the score was, so when I said "..both the team and the crowd", I was also including the players. But, you do raise an interesting point. In your thinking, the home court advantage doesn't come into play unless/until we are winning. I think it should be loud and encouraging whether we are winning or losing. And, I made the comment about people leaving with 7 minutes left in the game, not about people leaving with 2 min, when the game was no longer in doubt. I'm guessing you'd leave early even if it was a close game, since it was a school night, which is very commendable.

Not sure what it was with the crowd last night, perhaps the pre-game sentimentality took some of the fire out of both the team and the crowd, but everything seemed subdued. There were times when it was like a practice, for both teams. No crowd noise. (I'd say ZIP, but that would be redundant) From the time Pat missed the very first lay-up, thru the tic-tac-DOH, everyone seemed lethargic. Even the students sitting behind the baskets were leaving early. Very frustrating to see people walking out with 7 min left. Not trying to "out" anyone, but there are some people that sit "someplace" on the floor, who haven't seen the end of one game this year. I'm glad we won, but it could go down as one of most disinterested crowds in JAR history. *Now moved to correct thread*

Shanley, you DOLT, this is a JAR thread, not a game thread.. Sorry Class.

Just to show that it's not just Akron, here are a couple comments from the W MI fans: broncogirl1999 1 day agoWow poor refs in this game!! uofmbronco @broncogirl1999 I agree. The refs in the game need glasses. WMU got some poor calls. Of course, they were the most upset with their FT shooting, oh, and a couple shots at coaching. So, fans everywhere are fans with the same comments. But, thanks for your insight.

So, whenever you want to, just do it. That way we can all play along and we can be entertained. It's always interesting to see how self handicappers do against people who actually make their living from it.
-
Sounds like a nice idea for a new thread. You can post your lines for each game that you handicap and we can all play along.

There are always "make-up" calls (as opposed to made up calls). Good refs understand the flow of a game and will also have a sense if a fellow official makes a questionable call, and will find a nice innocuous 3 second call or traveling call just to keep it even. With Akron being called for 25 fouls to Western's 19, we were lucky they missed 13 of 27 free throws. This was not a well officiated game. The large number of technicals certainly help demonstrate the officials did not have control.
-
Interesting note on one particular official: John Floyd. In 14 games this year, he has called 9 technicals. By comparison, the other 2 refs, Heimerman & Mayborg, have only called 10 technicals combined in 63 games. Another note on Floyd is in 3 years, he's only worked 22 games in total. Maybe there was a shortage of experienced refs today..

I guess this really was an upset, after all.

I'm going with Capt. Kangaroo's answer from the last game: "You'd think that "getting the ball through the hoop" stat is overrated, but I'm starting to believe it might actually have a measurable effect on the game's outcome?" "

Interesting line-up for NIU. 3 guards & 2 centers.

Beautiful facility with no fans. NIU's version of Infocision.

Totally fine. We all say things we regret. Sorry for any misunderstanding. But, now I'll never know who Capn Obvious is.. J/K.

I appreciate this response so much better than your first one. It's always easier to just say it. I think you are correct. Thanks for bringing it up.

Keener, I have 27 posts. If you have an issue with any of them, please feel free to discuss. If I'm violating a rule of yours or of the board, be kind enough to point it out.

i know everyone is gonna talk FT......especially Walkman guy and Capt Obvious and his wife. ========= Walkman guy, ok we know that guy, but who is Capt Obvious?

Question for the local refs: 2 or 3 times tonight the refs stopped play after the Zips had inbounded the ball to look at an injured Chip. I certainly understand player welfare, but I do not recall officials stopping play when the opposing team has the ball. What is the rule in that situation? Thanks!
