Welp High Point winning as a 12 seed actually makes me feel less confident in the Zips chances tomorrow. We can't have two 12 seed updates can we?
-
"We proved the doubters wrong" by beating the 11th best team in the ACC.

I was devastated that night when the news broke. There have only been two Zips teams I felt could legitimately make a run in the tournament. The 2012-2013 and 2019-2020. Abreu weed shipment and Covid ended those dreams.

Still makes me sad that Nate transferred. This team would have been insane had he stayed and unfortunately he missed out on a tournament appearance.

Hopefully they get absolutely throttled and prove to the world they never belonged in the tournament at all.

If Miami makes it, the Zips need to schedule only sub-.500 teams for our OOC schedule moving forward.

Staying Close to John Groce - Coach-related News and Views
akzipper replied to dirtyolcrowe's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
A city the size of Akron should have a decent arena, plain and simple. Even completely ignoring the Zips there's no reason that the JAR is the only thing that exists in the decades since the Coliseum closed and it's seen no significant renovations. It's a joke. Both the city and UA deserve better. It's controversial, but a portion of the Ohio unclaimed funds should be going to Akron. If the Billionaires up in Cleveland get a big chunk, why can't we? If UA wants to keep Groce around they need to make some moves. -
The Zips had the easiest path to a championship that I can remember and made it as difficult as possible. Three stressful games that shouldn't have been stressful at all. But in the end, the best team in the conference rose to the top.

I don't think about Toledo at all. I'm so indifferent towards them. All my hate goes to Kent, OU, and Miami.
-
I'm surprised Suder didn't win MVP.

DAGGER
-
The only thing definitive was the fact that he traveled twice on that possession. Fully expecting that BS challenge to cost the Zips the game.
-
I swear NE sports are taking years off my life.
-
Can't blow a 20 point lead in the second half if you're getting blown out. 4D chess move by the Zips.
-
Pathetic performance by the Zips. No excuses for this game to be close, let alone a being down 12. Unacceptable.
-
Zips picked the worst possible time for an absolute clunker. This broadcast crew bringing up Miami a million times is just making this even more painful.
-
Atrocious start so far. I guess Toledo is just going to make everything the entire game?
-
The Zips just refuse to hold a comfortable lead.
-
Exact repeat of yesterday. Zips thought they had the game won at halftime and let them right back into the game.
-
Zips need to keep their foot on the gas. Can't get complacent like yesterday. No lead is safe.

The LeBron connection does get our basketball team some sweet gear. It would be cool if they actually wore LeBron branded unis at some point. Like UNC/Jordan, TT/Mahomes, and Louisville/Mitchell. Nike is the best brand when it comes to college sports. Yeah, it sucks that we don't get the same treatment as the big schools. But that's to be expected. They need to follow the money too.
-
Zips got way too comfortable with the lead and let them right back into the game. Never should have happened.
-
I don't need any bad karma, so I'm not going to say what we all are thinking. Time for the Zips to take care of business.

Kent has the ugliest uniforms across sports of any Division 1 school and it's not even close. I don't know how much of it has to do with bad branding or if its the outfitter. But it's just flat out embarrassing. Somehow these are all the same school. I think I counted 11 different fonts, 5 different logos and 6 different primary colors.

Under Armour will always be associated with lower level colleges and high schools. They put all their money into Notre Dame and have very little else to show for it. Even Curry bailed. The biggest schools are all Nike, so it makes sense they don't care about Akron. But at least we get some Lebron gear out of the deal. Which is more than can be said about other outfitters.
