  1. All I'm going to say is that it sure does sound like many of these posters are jealous of the 110. They are not destroying music education. Marching band is not music education, go to a concert band for that. As for the University of Akron's marching band.. there is not much to say other than eh.... They can barely be heard when they play, in an empty stadium no less. They have no technique when it comes to marching, as half of the band marches with their feet "3 inches off the ground" while the others barely pick their feet up. They are out of step and with stripes on their uniforms making it look much worse. The music selection is terrible, and the sheet music is awful. There is no excuse for using music on the field in college. I don't want to hear "we learn a new show every week and we need the drill written" because there are many bands out there that learn a new show every week and do not use music or need to have their drill in front of their face to perform. If you want to be a band which emphasizes musical ability, then play in a concert band. If you want to be a marching band, there are two ways to be good, either you are a"show band" or a "corps style band", Akron is neither. Either you entertain the crowd by showy moves or by precision drill. This topic arises all the time and all I ever read is people currently in the band or alumni who have such big boners for the band but cannot see the real problem... they suck. I understand that it does take hard work and dedication to make something good. Sometimes, even if you do put in hard work you still can't be good. Stop blaming everyone else (like the 110 who actually has a HUGE following and has been invited to numerous prestigious places) and take a look in the mirror and ask what you can do to improve your own band.
  2. after such a heart breaking loss last year this is well deserved and feels FANTASTIC!!!! GO ZIPS! Can't wait to see that streak in coach Porter's hair that he promised at the send off!
  3. The point is to FORCE the students to sit in one area. How many students are scattered throughout the GA section that could be packed together? How many of those students don't cheer because of the oppressive atmosphere created by the old folks who yell at them to sit down and stop being so noisy? I'm going to sound like a prick here, but I'm going to be honest...a lot of students don't want to be associated with the AK-Rowdies. Many choose to sit up top, and it's not because they don't like the view from the current student seats. Then they shouldn't pay the ten bucks. As soon as they do that, and they get the t-shirt, they are associated with the Rowdies...there are about 2,000 students in organization...about 85-90% of them pay the 10 bucks just to get the t-shirt...this problem has been going on for a while...I see students at Akron events talking about Ohio State, and Auburn, and many more like we don't have an athletic department and acting like we're just some community college...I see so many OSU memorabilia around and other colleges' memorabilia on campus, and it makes me I told some UA students that I hope OSU loses to Michigan and they're like...."why? they represent ohio? u HAVE to like OSU?" I said back to them..."Actually, OU is the representative university of ohio since Ohio is not "Ohio STATE"...the state is just "ohio" I feel like I keep repeating my self in conversations to hear... +1!!
  4. you don't know that it won't make a difference. Fair weather fans don't make a difference, die hard fans do. The 6th man is REAL... if more people believed in our team, it does give them an upper edge. Look at our soccer team, they love when we are loud and crazy for them. Coach Porter tells us that WE make a difference. What about the Cant game a few years ago, when Willy (MC) got us all pumped up. You can't say that it didn't make a difference.
  5. I completely agree with you. Even after chanting "stand up" the people in the lower sections just looked at us in disgust. It's like their hard plastic seats were too comfortable to cheer for and support our boys. I say I don't want your money if you aren't going to support our team. Go ahead and jump on the bandwagon just like OSU fans. Let's just go to the game because it's a social thing. Screw that!!!! If you are going to come to the games you better cheer! On another note, the rowdies that were there are the only real fans there. Not the hundreds that only go to big games because we are doing well. I think our rowdies deserve some recognition that actually are ALWAYS there. Also, can't our band play something other than non-exciting high school music? We need something to pump us up, not put us to sleep. Let's get some REAL FANS to the game. Let's STAND UP AND CHEER! I don't want any more of these fairweather fans that won't get off their a**es to root for their team. Show some freaking pride for once and root for our boys, they need it!
  6. This was a problem last year with them expanding past half way on the South side taking two seats per person... but no one threw a fit because it really didn't displace that many rowdies. Now, this is just ridiculous. I was unable to see the Dambrot shuffle because i was displaced onto the south side. Completely threw off my heckling! If the band is going to be that big, move them up top. Also, who was the smart person to put the tubas and the drumset IN FRONT OF WHERE OUR TEAM COMES OUT?!?! plus, the drumset was closer to the floor than it was on the south side... making it pretty dangerous, with the players having to navigate around it.
  7. I bet we can steal some talent away from Malone and Walsh university can we really steal some talent when no one is going to want to come here after hearing what's going on currently, with players leaving and all???
  8. He's such scum! Saying once that Cleveland should just get over it and that he didn't think Akron fans were that mad at him... He's got some serious issues.
