How many roster spots do we have? Typical Porter here! I don't know but these two bring the 2011 recruits to eleven. Congratulations on beating me to the punch on this one Bisbee. I read something about Bonilla, from Gwinnett Soccer Association last week, but didn't have time to research. I think he may be from the same club as Clint Mathis. I have to check with Clint's former coach, who's now skipper of Honolulu SC Bulls. My first knowledge of the transfer (Quinn). However, I can I guess let the cat out of the bag, since it doesn't appear he will be a Zip: The English player, whose coach was on here and Bigsoccer last Summer attended the January Elite camp, but apparently won't be attending UA. He also, I understand, had pro options in the states and trained with a MLS side. So are you saying that Quinn won't be a ZIP?

Looks like we have added two more to the mix. Dominic Bonilla ,according to ESPN Rise, has commited to be a ZIP. Also,it appears that Aodhan Quinn will transfer from Bradley to Akron. Both are midfielders. A starter in a team-best 22 games, Quinn set the Bradley record for assists by a freshman and shared the league lead with 10 assists in 2010. He also scored three goals, including the game-winner in Bradley's regular-season finale at #10 Creighton, and was named the Most Valuable Player of the State Farm MVC Men's Soccer Championship. "Me and my father started looking at colleges late, but we wanted to take our time," said Bonilla, a senior midfielder at Collins Hill (Suwanee, Ga.). Bonilla has been in the U.S. Soccer youth national team player pool in recent years. Most of his national team counterparts made early decisions and were locked up well before national signing day on Feb. 2.

I wonder if any of Caleb's players (i.e., Zips) are part of that team. Yes CHICAGO (Feb. 8, 2011) – The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team roster has been set for a training camp to be held from Feb. 12-20, in Phoenix, Ariz. Head coach Mike Matkovich has called in 36 players, including 26 current Development Academy players and four Development Academy alumni. The U.S. will play friendlies against teams from Major League Soccer that are in the midst of preseason training in Phoenix. Matkovich’s squad has scrimmages set up against Sporting Kansas City and Colorado Rapids on Feb. 15 and Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers four days later. It will be the first training camp of 2011 for the U-18 MNT, which is made up of players born in 1993. There are 15 players that return from the team’s most recent camp, a four-team international tournament in Tel Aviv, Israel, including midfielder Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler, who scored the lone goal in the team’s three games. Roster by Position: GOALKEEPERS (3): Jeff Gal (Sockers FC; Bartlett, Ill.), Jesus Guzman (San Jose Earthquakes Academy; San Jose, Calif.), Andrew Wolverton (Concorde Fire; Snellville, Ga.) DEFENDERS (11): Michael Ambrose (FC Dallas Juniors; Frisco, Texas), Alec Cochran (St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri; Ballwin, Mo.), Jack Coleman (FC Dallas Juniors; Norman, Okla.), Dakota Edwards (Albertson SC; Sayville, N.Y.), Nat Eggleston (DC United Academy; Chevy Chase, Md.), Jordan McCrary (North Carolina; Marietta, Ga.), Pablo Ocegueda (UANL Tigres; Riverside Calif.), Boyd Okwuonu (FC Dallas Juniors; Edmund, Okla.), Timothy Parker (Albertson SC; Hicksville, N.Y.), James Petruccelli (Seacoast United; Brentwood, N.H.), Walker Zimmerman (GSA; Lawrenceville, Ga.) MIDFIELDERS (17): Stefano Bonomo (De Anza Force; Hillsborough, Calif.), Robert Botchway (Concorde Fire; Dacula, Ga.), Seth Casiple (CDA; Sacramento, Calif.), Darvin Ebanks (GSA; Macon, Ga.), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake; Garden Grove, Calif.), Tomas Granitto (Weston FC; Weston, Fla.), Aaron Kovar (Seattle Sounders Academy; Seattle, Wash.), Miguel Lopez Jr. (Classics Elite; Alton, Texas), Daniel Metzger (NY Red Bulls Academy; Holmdel, N.J.), Eric Miller (Creighton University; Woodbury, Minn.), Steve Palacios (United Football Club; Santa Ana, Calif.), Victor Pineda (Chicago Fire; Bollingbrook, Ill.), Marcus Salandy-Defour (DC United Academy; Kensington, Md.), Khiry Shelton (Lonestar SC; Leander, Texas), Christopher Somerville (Baltimore Bays Chelsea; West Chester, Pa.), Will Trapp (Crew Soccer Academy; Gahanna, Ohio), Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler (CASL Chelsea FC; Cary, N.C.) Bonilla played with the U.S. Under-14 and Under-15 National Teams until injuries derailed him during Under-16 tryouts. The quick central midfielder also recently signed with reigning NCAA champion Akron, which just had a record seven players taken in the Major League Soccer Draft. The above is from an article about him from his hometown newspaper.

Do we have room??? From Top Drawer Soccer............. Despite finishing in a tie for second (behind AkronTop Drawer Soccer) in our chat audience poll asking who had the best incoming class, North Carolina has garnered the most Top 100 players with six. Jordan McCrary, Darvin Ebanks, Miguel Lopez, Ryan Dodson, Jon Ray and Cooper Vandermaas will all be donning the Carolina blue. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/players-to-...igning-Day-news Doubt it happens for a couple of reasons: 1. School has to release players once they sign LOI. If player leaves without official release then they must sit out Freshman year. I seriously doubt UNC would release any of these guys 2. I believe that several are from North carolina and environs so they may not wanna leave UNC.

AWESOME! Akron Zips Men's Soccer Damn...we are really gonna be packed with scorers next season.

Everybody in? Yedlin * Gallego * Trapp * Chiu * Culbertson * Murrow* Holmes * transfer from Loyola/St. Ignatius (what is this D's name?) Kayvon Afsarifard
-
DeAndre spoke to Will Trapp and he has signed his LOI.

I trust your "very reliable source" over a random live chat posting. So, is Gallego coming or no? Anyone? Here it is: Kinnelon Athletes Sign Letters of Intent Good looks ZipMe. Can anyone confirm Trapp having signed today? That would be the last, no? He was supposed to sign today. I will ask DeAndre if he knows.

-
Apparently Trapp couldn't get it done today because of the snow.
-
According to a "very reliable source" the supposed non NLI signing is a rumor.
-
I spoke with Gallego's dad at the Academy showcase in Phoenix . I CANNOT imagine that the kid would not come to Akron based on the discussion I had.
-
DeAndre Yedlin (#7 on Top Drawer and #12 on College Soccer News) is now officially a ZIP.
-
I KNOW DeAndre Yedlin is signing today and will post it OFFICIALLY when he does.

Holmes is from Notre Dame in Ohio. Kayvon was reading the thread about us not getting anyone from St. Ignatius and is transferring after a year at Loyola,in Illinois. He is a defender who played in 9 games. I don't know if he is going to come in and start for us or not. http://loyolaramblers.cstv.com/sports/m-so...d_kayvon00.html Thanks

hahahahaha

ESPN Rise lists the following 2 players as tranfers to Akron: Kayvon Afsarifard and Luke Holmes. Anyone know about these guys? Is Holmes the guy who is from Notre Dame College in Ohio?
-
I would love to know how the players were selected and find it very interesting that there are only a few players from the west coast.
-
Pencil in Yedlin at right back.

I have just seen the following information. It looks like he's flying over to Portugal soon to visit Portuguese SuperLiga club Benfica. That's all that I noticed. There's no more on whether he is just training, going on trial, or has been offered a contract. If he hasn't been offered a contract, I would assume he will be doing everything to keep his college eligibility. +1 However, the goals are the same size, the ball is the same, and there's a goalie in the goal for both leagues. Agreed ,but I presume that the level of play would be different.

It will be interesting to see how he does against Div 1 players. He certainly put up some amazing numbers against NAIA competition.
