  1. The U20 gig was probably better for recruiting, as most at that age people are going to be still considering college ball, and at u23 they're probably out of school or went pro alreadyI'm salivating to think about what he can do with the likes of Brek Shea, Josh Gatt, Jozy Altidore, Freddy Adu, etc, though.
  2. I'll be at manny's, a roadtrip just wasn't in the cards for me today
  3. Well, I mean, he did recruit Teal Bunbury, and Steve Z wasn't exactly tiny.
  4. Thought the Penn St attendance was disappointing - would have thought the sticker value of a big name school would have gotten people out
  5. Did porter sound a little under the weather during the postmatch interview to anyone else?
  6. certain software programs do that for you the match analysis guys demo it on this video for mambo: http://matchanalysis.com/mambo.htm prozone can do it too, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Arsene Wenger uses it, pretty sure. http://www.prozonesports.com/product-prozone3.html
  7. well the point was sort of that, given the statistical noise inherent in the relationship between SOGs and goals, the data actually can't tell us anything useful.
  8. they've had more home games too I think, which would hurt their own winning percentage a bit
  9. partially an extended response to this thread: http://akronsportsnow.com/a-note-on-the-pr...-shots-on-goal/ kind of long winded so I won't copypaste here
  10. per wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratings_Percentage_Index
  11. What does top drawer have against NIU? They aren't in any of their polls, it seems. The second loss might drop them from the top 25, but 48?
  12. pretty sure no one actually said meves shouldn't start
  13. his distribution really isn't that bad when you take into account that he can make some excellent throws
  14. I'm not really big on barking and actually wish timmy did less of it, but a lot of keepers do it Again, my eyes tell me Meves is good not great, but I'd be curious to see a heatmap of his range or something
  15. I'd imagine that using save% to judge a keeper's merit is as erroneous as using field percentage to judge a baseball player's defensive abilities. I have to think there's some sort of UZR equivalent for goalkeepers, though I guess could see it having every bit as much statistical noise. Does anyone know if Porter uses some sort of match analysis service, or if there's any of that sort of thing gets conducted in-house?
  16. I think Montero might be over 24? Must be, because Agudelo hasn't been on the list yetyeah he's 24 on the button. My mistake. Najar 3# so that leaves spot 2/3 for Shea/Agudelo.
  17. Having talked to the team a bit, they all seem to still think Ponikvar's the number 2.MacAdams is transferring out at the end of the semester.
  18. So the last 3 are pretty clearly Najar, Montero, and Shea, and I think they have Montero at 1.So does that leave Shea at 2 and Najar at 3?
  19. Can anyone verify that the game now is streaming? http://mac-sports.com/Schools/Akron/LiveStreaming.aspx doesn't seem to be up.
  20. look man, the EPL is way more physical than the mls. Just because there are some soft spanish players that "speak for the way football should be played" in camp nou that passess sideways all the time doesnt mean you can't body a guy up
  21. This guy's kid?
  22. Pretty sure AO Akron will be meeting at Manny's beforehand
  23. mls isn't as physical as barclay's and I mean the players aren't all technically gifted enough to play in the epl/bundesliga/la liga/serie a, but neither are the players who play in any other league maybe ligue 1 is up there
  24. The other guy I could have seen developing decently into the hold up role at striker is Jimmy Tulloch - although maybe his frame suggests something more of a target man. In either regard, he's gone too. I wouldn't be so worried about the lack of a guy who can receive the ball and wait for support, but employing Mattocks at one of the striker spots seems to necessitate having a guy who's strong with the ball at his feet in the other spot. Darren has good pace, some flair, good finishing, and the all important "nose for goal," but absent good support play, those things become virtually useless. I don't wanna seem all doom and gloom, and we should still roll past the Western Michigans of the world, but idk idk
