Just saw that an "un-named storm" is hitting the East Coast and will likely cause showers here tomorrow. This might keep the turnout lower. The one day in the last 7 or 8 that is has to rain I SURE hope this doesn't mean a repeat of the "dropsies" from the Ball St. game

Nick's Picks for MAC Football Week #5
johnnyzip84 replied to IBleedMACGreen's topic in Akron Zips Football
10 of Miami's points were directly the result of phantom pass interference calls. Oklahoma is the best team in the nation. They will score 50 or more on a lot of good teams.Out of curiousity, subflea, were the refs in the Victory Bell game Big East or MAC? I assume tomorrow's refs are Big East. Anyone know?BTW, Oklahoma MAY be the best team in the country but I'm thinking the SEC might have a little to say about that before the season's over. -
Wow, great news! JD has mentioned Odofin in his press conference, but not the other two. I hope the DL is rotated freely so each of these guys get some reps and they all stay relatively fresh during the game. Of course, the guys who are making plays need to stay in the game as much as possible too.

Why would he want to do it (6 years)? I wonder if he will even want to play again and risk further injury. Two "out on a stretcher, 12 month rehab" injuries within 3 years would really make me consider finishing my degree and coaching some high school ball. The prospect of walking without a cane at 55 years old is a great incentive to say "I gave it a good run" and move on. depending on the extent of the hip fracture, it may be easier to come back from that than the knee...healthy AA has NFL talent...if he can get in 1 big year he might get drafted...hope they pursue more eligibility...I agree that IF the hip fracture is something from which AA can fully recover, I think seeking a 2nd red shirt year would make sense. The problem with Mauk's case is that his 1st injury wasn't documented or the documentation was misplaced (by Wake). I would have to think that AA's injuries would be well documented. Also I am pretty sure the NCAA cut-off in terms allowing a certain amount of PT in a red shirt season is 30% of the scheduled games (recall, Mackey was injured in the Can't game, and since this was the 4th game of a 12 game schedule it put him at 4/12 = 33%, hence OVER the NCAA cut-off). Since AA was injured in the 3rd game (3/12 = 25%) it would seem to me that he is at least ELIGIBLE to petition for this to be a red-shirt season. Assuming he can get healthy, we'd at least have him for another year, but having him for another 2 would be even better. Watching AA hit the hole like he does, it would be hard for me to believe that he wouldn't agree.

I'm thinking that maybe some OSU underpants, thong style preferred, would be nice....GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZipNah, forget the thong style I want to force you to shift your morning dress ritual from "yellow in the front, brown in the back" to "red in the front, silver in the back"

Week Five Picks, Previews & News from MAC Report Online
johnnyzip84 replied to MACReport's topic in Akron Zips Football
A Cincinatti TV station (actually The Sports Network) web site (Link) gives Akron a better chance than either Vandelay's or MACReport Link -
Wow, the ex bobsledder Viktor Rajek might get some PT this week. Wouldn't it be something if he made a play or two! JD/Fleming started both Marcoux and Pendleton against Army. Perhaps they feel like they need to keep one fresh "big" out there at all times against Cincy's no-huddle. The Zip D-Line situation (injuries) would seem to beg the opponent to run the ball more than pass. But Kelly's teams (though balanced) don't seem to FAVOR the run too often regardless of match-ups.

Why not just make 10 louder?(Staying with the theme) I just hope that if our defensive game plans are being developed using sketches, the resulting performance is a little more awe inspiring than this
-
Brian Kelly and Chris Mortenson?

The latest Leakin' article still has JD focusing on Bain's foot injury, mentioning that he's supposed to see a specialist. On the bright side, Deni Odofin has been cleared to practice Leakin' Link

I think the Bobcats are a better team than their record may indicate. From watching two of their games, I have to think that they will be a tough opponent for us.I agree. It's not like Zip victories at Peden Stadium have been plentiful.

Was thinking the same thing, MDZipIf Montgomery remains their HC next year, and they are still OVERRATED in the pre-season rags/polls, I think I'm going to scream. Earth to Sweaterville, you may end up being known as the "grave of coaches" unless you can do something to generate a FB fan base down there. If you couldn't draw well when you had a consistently good program for all of those years, what do you think awaits if this downturn in prolonged?

I think it will be at least 15K, with a few nobodies like me tacked on

Thanks again, Cap'n. I will keep my eyes open for an Ommegang when I get a chance

Excellent pics, Cap'n! Thannks for posting them. It seems like Michie shows up on a lot of "must see" college football venue lists, and it sounds like you would probably agree that it belongs there. Not to pester you on the subject, but how were the local brews you procured for the tail-gating?

Put me in the "OU is better than the 0-4 record indicates" camp. I'll put it this way, there is no way I would favor either Can't or Miami against OU if they were playing this week. Of course, none of this means a thing if Solich can't get the team to forget the losses and focus on the rest of the schedule. I also suspect that Northern is a little undervalued in this list as well.

Congrats to Jabari! Here's to hoping he hauls in a 109-yard TD reception on his 1st play from scrimmage

If that happens again this year it will really demonstrate that Kelley is a much better coach than JD. Kelley (and his staff) made some very real and effective in-game adjustments 2 years ago while the Zips made, as far as we could all tell, absolutely none. IMO, in-game adjustments are one of the more important qualities of a good coach (and staff) & we've had some mild rumblings around ZipsNation about our lack of them.Actually, Mark Dantonio was still in Cincy for the 2006 game. He was an excellent defensive coach and had very capable assistants who were able to make the necessary in game changes for that squad to have a successful season. Last year, Coach Kelly brought the spread offense to Cincy to go along with several veteran defenders that remained from the Dantonio regime. UC will play mostly 4 man fronts on "D" and sprinkle in some 3-4. DB's, LB's and most of the D-line are veterans. D end has been an area of concern for the Bearcats this season, as the consistent pass rush that we have been so accustomed to in previous years has not yet materialized. This of course puts pressure on the DB's and it doesn't matter how good they are, they can only cover a receiver for so long. Offensively the Bearcats have very capable WR's with great speed and an excellent possession receiver in Goodman who, while not the fastest guy in the world, can be elusive once making a catch. RB's are 200+ lber's with very good speed. QB Pike, who started his first game ever at QB against Miami, is a 6' 6" 220 lb guy who showed tremendous poise in the pocket Saturday night and can stretch the field. I very much look forward to the trip up to Akron and to what I think will be a very entertaining football game.Welcome BIXBOX. I am curious as to how many fellow Bearcat fans you estimate might follow you to the Rubber Bowl this week? Also, I read somewhere that Kelly has experimented with Demetrious Jones under center running the more "run oriented" aspects of the spread. Do you think there is a chance Jones will see any "real" action (non garbage time) on Saturday?

Like Delone Carter?I'll grant you, Cap'n, it is undeniable that Delone's decision worked out pretty well for the Zips but not so well for him. And as mentioned on other threads, he'd no doubt touch the rock LESS here than here than he does at 'Cuse. While there hasn't recently been a plethora of local guys who have been overlooked (Andrew Wellock, Erique Dozier and Tm Hiller come to mind), I am simply curious if anyone knows if UA had any interest in him at all. I would think the Flemings would have a pretty good idea of his ability (and limitations), and perhaps this might explain the Zips apparent lack of interest.

195 lb safetys and 215lb linebackers. Give me a 4th guy at 6'4", 260 any day. Especially against Cincinnati's OL.Or 6'1", 220 LB (and THAT might be generous) if his name is Shawn Lemon and he keeps improving week to week like he has lately

Kind of puts a damper on "Bearcat Burgers" for the tailgate. I'll have mine "seedless" thank you!
-
Also from Wikipedia:"The Binturong is the only known animal capable of digesting the seed coat of the Strangler Fig, a very important rainforest tree. This makes the Binturong a uniquely critical animal for seed dispersal".And here I thought Huggy-Bear was the only known animal capable of digesting the seed coat of the Strangler Fig.I wonder if Zippy has any "special talents" that benefit both flora and fauna
