Is that ABC's Charlie Gibson I see running after it?Link

Any "Heat Miser" reference is golden IMO!That got me thinking in a little more abstract sense. How about.....The BG Logo of Just a Few Years AgoAnd The Partridge Family Logo?

Good point, GoZips88. We need a better showing in 2009, and I think we've got a real shot at a couple of W's this year. Afterall, the OOC results have been quite a bit better this year than in the past few years. I'm not just considering W's and L's here, but also the good showings. As pointed out in other threads, un-biased polls such as Sagarin's have the MAC on par with Conf USA this year and that has not typically been the case. -
One thing that might help combat this is that Sheehan, while having pretty good mobility, is still no Edelman with his feet (how many QB's are?). I see the Zips substituting MUCH more freely on the DL against BUGS.

The reason Bowser's TD review took so long
johnnyzip84 replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
All kidding aside, the Leakin has an article on what really took place in the booth on Saturday. It seems strange that JD needed to use his challenge on that play to get a "shutdown". I'm just glad he made the call in time, because Can't couln't have been more than 1 second away from snapping the ball.Link -
Thank You Zips Players and Staff

If I came across as one who doesn't take the dangers of alcohol seriously, this was certainly not my intention nor is it anywhere near the truth. IMO it was not the subject matter that was humorous. It was the deadpan, frank delivery from Igor. I don't think JD had a chance to prevent any of this. It was all on Igor and Dunn. I would expect that they've both been approached regarding the incident and that JD may caution the entire team on these kind of interviews. -
I think the key is the O-Line. They NEED to get back to playing the way they did prior to the Can't St. game (apart from the high snaps!). If they can, I believe the Zips can exterminate Bowling University Green State.

Anyone hear Igor's quote on the post game? My friend and I had just got to the car, hoping to hear Steve French's thoughts, when we were just in time to hear post-game interviews with some players. Joe Dunn asked Igor if he "felt" for Can't kicker Reed being in that situation. Igor said (to the effect) that he'd never been in that situation, then followed with "Well, except for Cincinnati last week. If I would've made that, we would've won. That sucked." Best part is, that's not even the best quote. Joe Dunn then made the ill-advised question asking Igor how he was going to celebrate his second straight Wagon Wheel victory, to which he said: "Well, I'm twenty one. I'm gonna go get drunk." I like the guy just a little more after that one. He sure made some faces red there.Second, Deryn Bowser made an appearance next. This kid seems to have his head screwed on straight, a real class-act. He portrayed a love of the game and his teammates. If JD goes JUCO for receivers, high class kids like Bowser are the way to go. I'm glad we still have him for a season and a half.Driving back with a group that included my 16 year old son and his buddies, I just about lost it during Igor's interview. Dunn had to know where that conversation was headed  . Frenchy sure did. That was some hilarious live radio! Of course the win made it that much funnier.I echo everyone's sentiments as far as the nature of this thread. I REALLY like the bond that is beginning to develop between this football team and the students. Hopefully this will continue to branch out to all UA alumni and the Akron community as a whole. -
The reason Bowser's TD review took so long

It is true that the ref shown in the Beacon pic was NOT the one who made the initial incomplete call (not like he had a good view of the play or anything ) The guy from the other side of the endzone came running in with an emphatic sideways "scissoring" of his arms, and only THEN did the one in the pic join him in the embarrasingly incorrect signal. Also, Skip, I DO recall that play agaist OU 2 years ago. There wasn't much time left, but still the call was a blatant error. -
1st of all, I am still wonderfully amazed by that catch. Sure he may have dropped a few over the course of this season, but I contend that he's the only UA receiver in the last dozen years (at least) that is even capable of making that play. Now to the newly discovered evidence. I can now see clearly (ha ha) why the ref (or back judge, linesmen....whatever) blew the call on the field

Wow does that home side look like a high school stadium! An old one at that! The five Zip fans I was with sat over on that "home" side. There were a handful of Zip fans in front of us and behind us as well. I had forgotten that Can't has their team take the sidelines OPPOSITE the press box (something Faust did early on in his tenure at the Rubber Bowl....very odd in my opinion....had heard rumors then that Gerry didn't want the players to get any "negative" feedback from the home crowd lol). Anway, I heard several Can't students saying while pointing to the endzone, "those people over their (Rowdies) are making more noise than the entire rest of the crowd". I LOVED IT! Keep it up Ak-Rowdies!! I can't wait to see you guys and gals in action again next Saturday night. Go Zips!!!

Looks pretty nice indeed, MDZip! Most of us would have taken this at the beginning of the year, no doubt. But now that we're there, let's STAY there by taking care of business one game at a time.

This is actually a little bit of good news/bad news. While this obviously hurts BG, now the EMU away game looks to be no cakewalk (if it ever was). I wonder if Andy Schmidt is back playing QB for the Eagles, because he's a pretty decent QB.

To Heck with the RS for DeVoe
johnnyzip84 replied to ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net's topic in Akron Zips Football
I also thought it was odd that Tuzze didn't get another carry after having a couple of pretty nice gains prior to what I think was Jacq's 1st (and worst) INT. -
I'm pretty sure that was #2 Jalil Carter who made that play Skip. It was one of the few times an Akron defender kept containment on Edelman. It also seemed like we did not sub DL's as much as, for instance, in the Cincy game. I think that's why Lively, Sewell and Lemon looked spent towards the end.

That's the way to stomp out ANY notion that the MAC is even going to have a race this year. Awesome guys!
-
Why, that's a perfectly obvious choice! Go Tigers! Go Zips!!

Even after the replay!!! Supposedly they kept saying that since it was taking so long there couldn't have been "irrefutable" evidence. I know, this makes no sense but what do you expect lol If anything, I think we (UA fans at the game) all felt better the longer the review took. It sounded like one of them (Can't announcers) had access to the replay as well. Sounds like wishful thinking on their part to me. Bowser and one of the O-LINE knew it was good right away.
-
As long as he's called the play-by-play for this nutty FB program (and I say that with great affection), he has earned this right! Gotta love 'em. When I heard the post-game on the way home, they played his "call" of Bowser's TD (well the reversal of the call on the field anyway) and he was just as animated as if it had just hapened real-time.
-
I was there with 4 others, but once I got back here I heard the attendance was 18,500. I also was told that the Can't announcers went crazy when the Bowser TD was ruled. It was a game that we were lucky to win, of course. But I'm not complaining. We were outgained something like 235 - 58 on the ground, gave Can't almost as many turnovers as they had all year, but we still managed to win the game. UNREAL!! Am I the only one who was relieved when Martin sent Edelman into the middle of the field to take a knee with 8 seconds left and TWO TO's left before they kicked the tieing FG?Oh, and I was DEAD WRONG about the O-LINE. I expected SO much better today. DK didn't run it great, but he didn't have many holes either. Gotta play MUCH better in this area next week, regardless of the RB.

Bizarre, Rambling Take on Akron/K.e.n.t.
johnnyzip84 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Frenchy made reference to this on WNIR this morning. He added some quip like "geesh, I hope this guy doesn't read the OSU and Michigan message boards". -
I sort of hate predicting this game because of the nature of the rivalry. The loss in 2006, while painful, is not what I am worried about. I actually think that game wasn't a fluke.....the flushes were just better that year.I'm more concerned with the type of game where the better team manages to find a way to lose. I can think of TWO other games at Dix where the Zips were definitely the better team yet somehow managed to lose. In 1992, the Zips had what may have been Faust's best team (finished 7-3-1) yet Can't stuffed the box on D and Zips QB Marcel Weems was hand-cuffed by a seemingly rigid, run-based game plan. A fumble returned for a TD ws a killer in that 20-16 defeat. In Jason Taylor's last year (1996) the Zips were leading in the 4th quarter to have the game completely blow up in their faces with the unlikely final of 32-17 (it seemed like the flushes scored 8 TD's in that disgusting 4th quarter). Mind you, UA had just come off a 27-7 win over Western Michigan the week earlier, and this was the same team that gave Va Tech fits in the Bowl.Having said all of this, I still feel as if the Zip O-Line will dominate and lead UA to a solid win. Edelman might make it scary for a while, but I look for WHOMEVER at RB for UA to run well, particularly in the latter stages of the game.Zips 30flushes 20

The coaching staff is no doubt trying to assess two things in regards to DeVoe's RS. First, will Andrew Johnson be able to come back any time soon. Second, do they think they can beat Can't w/o DeVoe. If the answers to both of these is YES, then I think there's a good chance that the RS will continue. However if the answer to either one is NO, then I'll bet DeVoe not only plays but gets quite a few touches on Saturday.
